You just opened me up to new understanding, I can edit my videos in Pro tools instead of just my music. #blown. Thanks, sir.

This video can be used as a study guide for certain Pro Tools Cert exams. What I mean is...the information is laid out in such a clear, and concise, outline. Also, the order of presented information is superb. Excellent video.

It is so great how these are still applicable today. Even with Pro Tools versions changing it is generally the same. Great stuff! Thank you!

Fantastic video, Paul. I learnt a lot from it. I am using a 2 x 3,46 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon old Mac Pro. And a GPU-card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2 GB. Would you advice to "enable GPU" in Pro Tools Preferences or better not? I don't know if my video card is fast enough to benefit video preformance in Pro Tools, taking away these tasks from the CPU... What would you say?
@paulmaunder30072 жыл бұрын
It's probably better to enable it but the best thing to do would be to test it. Try working with a session for a couple of hours with it active, then disable it and and see which works best. Most half decent graphics cards will bring some benefit with the GPU setting enabled in Pro Tools.

Thanks for this video, it was a godsend because precisely this week I have to use video in Pro Tools, something I didn't have to do so far. I've struggled so much with it that I had to move the whole session from a windows pc to a mac, because the codecs didn't want to work in the PC, for some reason. There's also very few info on the forums about video issues, so all this insight will be useful when troubleshooting.

Hi Paul, your videos are extremely well done! They're a lot better than many of the other educational workflow videos you find on youtube. If you have the time, I would love to see a video on Satellite Link which you mention toward the end of this video.
@paulmaunder30078 жыл бұрын
+Trent Williams Thanks Trent. I will aim to make a video on Satellite Link soon. I'll have to make it at work where I have access to multiple Pro Tools HD systems. I will do my best to get it done in the next few weeks.

Hey Paul, this was a fantastic video. Thank you very much. I have an issue in pro tools where I am able to load a video file, change the settings to match fps, etc - however, the video clip won't appear in my clip list for some reason. So I can't know if the codec is optimized. When I open my clip list options, the "find" and "clear find" options are greyed out (someone had told me to try that first) so I'm not sure what I should do. Any suggestions?

Hi Paul, when does the “output settings” box become selectable? I ask because I need to run a sessions video live to a separate screen, and atm, in a PT session - even at best quality - it’s not a presentable quality to send out, it’s quite pixelated. PT 12.5 HD. Mac pro 5,1 Many thx

Hi Paul, Thanks for sharing this video tutorial. I am aware this has been posted almost five yesars ago. I have been a Cubase user, and this year I have been trying out the Pro Tools subscription to figure out if I am missing something. IMHO ProTools is the best DAW for top studios. But Cubase and Logic are more suitable for home studios. They come with a comprehensive plugin bundle and are more friendly to small quick start projects, like daily u tube video productions, jingles, even larger movie sound tracks, as opposed to Pro Tools being the choice of all major music productions that sold disk records in the past. With the home studio trend, I believe the price of Pro Tools subscription will bury Avid slowly. I am stuck with this year's subscription because of my payment chioce. I would recommend new users to try Pro Tools but pay monthly at first... One might agree Pro Tools is not really worh it for home studio autonomous users. Anyway, at 2:30 you mention the timecode of the video, regardless of the session sample rate. A given session can be mixed down with a track containing any video resolution? For example, a 96k sample rate session including a track with a video clip of 1080k and 30 fps? Thank you for your support.
@paulmaunder30074 жыл бұрын
Yes, you can bounce any resolution of video file along with any sample rate of audio.

Hi Paul, thanks for sharing the knowledge, just one question, does the quality of the video changes when you convert the video using Avid Codec
@paulmaunder30079 жыл бұрын
+siddhesh sardesai The Avid DNxHD codec is what you might call a 'perceptually lossless' codec. This means that there is no perceived visual degredation in video quality when encoding or transcoding to DNxHD. Strictly speking, it's lossy but if you're converting an already compressed file, there will be no visual loss of quality at all.

Building on what you said of Satellites (toward the end of the video), could you use this feature in say a Foley pit where you want to control the session from the Foley stage but want the session to run in your control room etc? ?
@paulmaunder30077 жыл бұрын
If you were doing that it would be more practical just to use the Pro Tools Control iPad app.

Hello Paul, I wanted to know if it is possible if there is anyway to use dvd movies and upload them into protools in order to recreate the music for a scene. I have tried to upload them but I'm not sure why protools won't recognize the video?
@paulmaunder30078 жыл бұрын
+Steven Becerra If you're ripping video directly from DVD, it will be in MPEG2 format. Pro Tools doesn't work well with that codec. I'd recommend converting it to another format. Try H.264 to start with.

Hi Paul - when you create several video tracks - are they only "temp" help-tracks - will you always copy/paste into one "master" online video track - build up one "master" track - or can you let pro tools (via automation?) decide/shift which track is the online track...
@paulmaunder30078 жыл бұрын
+mandal24680 It's not possible to automate which video track is online unfortunately. You can only manually switch between them. You can create however many arrangement of clips you want on video tracks (up to 64) but it's always a manual process to toggle which is the active track.
Hi Paul, if I have imported an mp4 into a session and it does not play, is this an issue with pro tools or the file itself (is it corrupted or does pro tools only play certain mp4's?
@paulmaunder30077 жыл бұрын
Do you mean it doesn't play at all or it plays intermittently? Have you also tried opening it in Quicktime player?

You'll need to install the Avid Quicktime codecs. It's available from the Avid website.
