Students and teachers are asking for ideas to revise their infographics, studying images that come with news articles, learning to look and look again at art, carefully understanding scientific diagrams, unpacking historical archives in new ways because they can have conversations with AI Writing Partners that can see and ask students questions and have conversations with students about images.
But how can we infuse this multimodal AI functionality with our implicit teaching decisions and frameworks for visual literacy? What do we want the AI to say to our students now that it can see images?
