Restoration to factory condition of the Solido BMW 2002 Turbo model no. 28.

I managed to buy this iconic model from the 1970s on a local auction website. In addition to the normal renovation, I decided to make an additional suspension, which this car did not have. I did it based on springs, because this solution was used by the French company Solido since 1961. As befits a Turbo model, I made a traditional painting with stripes in the form of decals. I also made one of the three packages in which this model was sold. Thank you for your interest in my channel, I publish videos with car repairs on KZbin on Tuesdays and Saturdays. Quando ero piccolo, c'era una 2002 Turbo abbandonata alla periferia di un paese vicino al mio. Bianca e con le famose decals colorate e la scritta Turbo al contrario sullo spoiler anteriore. Paul: hoy volviste a tocar recuerdos de mi juventud. Cuando tenía 18 / 20 y algunos años, en mi país, el BMW 2002 era más que un auto, era una auténtica demostración de poder económico y deportivo. Auto preferido por corredores de rally o categorías de turismo, y símbolo de status social de los más ricos, que nosotros mirábamos desde lejos. El modelo la escala original, más allá de su estructura bien conservada, carecía de otro atractivo que el diseño. Lo que hiciste con el fue fantástico, la pintura, la renovación y la decoración, el gusto por los detalles, etc. Pero si había un plus para aplaudir, lo lograste con esa suspensión de resortes, que fue un detalle muy bueno y una demostración de habilidad y prolijidad. Aplausos desde América del Sur. Lejos en la distancia, pero cercano en el respeto y la admiración por tu trabajo.

Truly lovely restoration! An inspired engineering job for the suspension addition. The coil-springs are much sexier than the functional but spare wire-spring system. I expected the taupe/gray color on the base plate, but glossy black was the choice instead. Gorgeous box and presentation, Maestro! ❤ Stephen

Excellent restoration as always and a nice touch to add suspension, one of the few areas where Solido models of this era lagged behind the competitors. But speaking of suspension, I noticed that the box mentioned both suspension, opening bootlid, and tilting front seats on the list of features, and you mention that the model came in 3 different box types, so I'm thinking that Solido also modified the model itself during production period. Your model still has a metal baseplate, but I think the production period spans the time when Solido stared using plastic baseplates, indicating that your model is probably not early production run - on the other hand, features like an opening bootlid and tilting seats would be typical of the era the model was fist introduced, and yours doesn't have that, so looks like it could be a mid-production-run transition model. I imagine the suspension was finally introduced when Solido switched to a plastic baseplate.

My dad drove one - not the turbo version, that came a bit later - of the '2002' in 1969, when BMW cars were rare in the UK. If we went anywhere in it, people would always ask dad what kind of car it was. Unlike today, where the BMW is a very, very common vehicle - about one in six vehicles on the road is a BMW, so, despite what a great many of their drivers think, there's not a lot special about them at all.

Paul good as always... the real flaw of the Solido model (which I also own) was the wheel track too narrow compared to the widened fenders. And then a problem common to all BMW models before the pad printing era is the front metal logo, very difficult to trace even with the Molotov: maybe that's why you didn't do it either
