Glorious, Paul, you all that hard work has paid off. The shed bed is a delightful riot of colour. Alchemilla can be a pest, it does spread and after rain (!) it saturates feet and legs. It's so dry here, cold and bright - I'm hosing now. Thanks for sharing your garden.

I like chaos and unpredictability in the garden. I've planted many pots with a wildflower mix and it's fun to see which will come up when, and how you have to wait a few years to see some of them. The garden is always changing and I love that.

Your garden is bursting forth! All looking green & wonderful! I know you said it was a bit chaotic, but I absolutely love the shed bed at the moment (will admit to liking a bit of chaos in my garden 😆), it’s so colourful with the azalea & those forget-me-nots. Hi Lindsay, I actually thought the shed bed would be a bit sparse this year but isn’t it just amazing how plants simply fill the gaps themselves! I really enjoyed dealing with the plug plants - a lot of work but out of 72 mixed plants I only had about 5 die off! So I ended up with plenty to fill borders or give away to family & friends. Glad you enjoyed the tour 🌻

Thank you for the tour, Paul. I might have mentioned earlier that I gave my poorly performing phlomis to a friend of mine a few years ago and it has been thriving ever since. Yours looks very good! Some of my roses have just started flowering, I am really excited. There are countless buds wherever I look! The problem is we have not had any rain for quite a while and I am getting a little anxious, I hope the roses are going to be fine. I cannot water so many roses, I must keep an eye on the youngest ones and on those in pots. Keep your fingers crossed for them, please.

Phlomis; wish it had a different name as my lips and tongue get in a tangle pronouncing it. It’s flowering now but the leaves droop - I think they’re supposed to but I keep thinking it needs watering - so I do! You have so many special roses Jolanta, no wonder excitement is building in your garden. Same over here - no rain, water butts empty and having to use the hose every day - and it’s only the very beginning of Summer! Hopefully you’ll get a good ‘hot weather’ downpour to sort everything out. For me too as my Sandy soil is bone dry. Yes, fingers crossed.

@@paultsworld My water butts are almost empty, I am getting a bit desperate, I must say. I have reduced the number of pots with plants to 15 this year as they require regular watering. Yesterday I fertilised over 100 roses, today I must take care of the rest. I try to get to the base of each plant and scatter the fertiliser there and then mix it with the top soil a little. You cannot imagine the acrobatic tricks I have to perform in order to do that because the planting is very dense and the access to most of my roses is quite difficult. Sometimes I think I have created a monster which is constantly hungry for my attention ;-)

I know what you mean about ‘creating a monster’ - things can get daunting at times but then it is worth it. Luckily with your footwork skills you can dance around your roses much more easily than the rest of us.

Hi paul. Your garden looks very lush and beautiful. Id recomend euphorbia fireglow. Not invasive. And ladys mantel does better in gritty poorer soil.. Self seeds in cracks etc. We have extreme hot weather here at the moment. So its hard work keeping up with the watering. God bless

Alchemilla Mollis struggles in my garden, which is also quite acidic. I wonder whether they don’t thrive in acidic soil and that’s the issue…? I bought a tiny one once for 10p at a charity sale about 5years ago, every year it comes back but every year it stays pretty tiny and certainly doesn’t self seed 😂I keep it out of sentimentality 🤗 Your garden is amazing! I love to let my many shrubs more or less do what they like as well, I like the look of wild abandon - “Organised chaos” is how how I’d describe my own cottage garden, but the wildlife love it.

Just lovely as always. I loved seeing the foxglove popping everywhere, my absolute favorite flower. I have black & blue in my garden, it grows as tall as me, 5'4", it self seeded with my tall phlox, it makes a lovely couple 😊

Me too - foxgloves have grown in some great places for me this year - I was watching bumble bees going from bell to bell yesterday evening.as they’re all in flower now. How interesting you have the black & blue - exciting for me as I haven’t seen it before. I love ‘self-seeding’ and surprises.

@@paultsworld I watched a bubble bee too, it was really funny to see the flower being poked around. I meant to mention my yarrow too. I took 4 out, I don't know how it will act for you as far as traveling. That's why I took so many out, along with flopping on other flowers, like a new foxglove, I said oh no you don't. @@itsmewende I saw a flower bed in a nursery full of yarrow and they looked great and they weren’t staked. Hasn’t worked for me - they came in my selection of plug plants - think they’ll have to go. - but I’ll let them flower and have a swan song 😀

When I seen them this spring, I was excited again, right up til I seen them dropping on the foxglove. Funny thing, the biggest from last yr, is doing ok so far. Where I live it hasn't gotten crazy hot yet. No rain tho for some time, my brother told me the state is 7 inches below our normal rain fall.

We have a ‘high’ above Britain and it’s stopping all the rain bearing Westerly winds off the Atlantic - there won’t be any rain till it drifts off - the bonus is it brings lovely settled, warm sunny weather - which is nice - downside my garden is bone dry!

Thinking of you last week Paul as Chelsea flower show had a new Weigela and Hydrangea. Seeing your Zorro has caught my eye and is now on my wish list as that blue is gorgeous. I also like your Mexican Fleabane in the stone wall. It reminded me of my hometown in Cornwall as it used to get in all the wall crevices. The local church had it all around the parameter walls and I used to look at it as I walked the long way around to get home. I was always too scared to take the shorter route through the graveyard when it got dark! When you mentioned Laburnum, I immediately thought of Bodnant. Your garden is looking stunning Paul but it always does.

I missed the new weigela and hydrangea - they are certainly breeding extra special hydrangeas now - also mophead ones that retain their colour irrespective of soil pH. I also have a soft spot for the fleabane - I picked a piece out of a wild wall and it does well in my little wall. It’s lovely how flowers/plants can remind us of times gone by. Yes Wendy, Bodnant’s laburnum arch is probably the most famous.

Good Morning Paul, the garden never looks better than in late Spring. You have managed to harmonise colour and texture beautifully. I try but it doesn't always work. My goodness, all the foliage looks so healthy. I love your sulking weigela, it no longer sulks! I looked at my variegated weigelas and none of the stems are anywhere near pencil thickness, so I need to wait another year....mine must be sulking, might be too shady. I watch your video and now cannot wait for Spring. Oh! I hate euphorbia. Once it's in your bed, you can never get rid of it! 😜 ( That's probably a cautionary metaphor to tell your young adult children) and yarrow can do the same in favorable years. You are getting quite a diverse plant collection. I didn't really like rudbeckia but I like it now. Difficult to source here. Yours looks lovely and the new one sounds like it will look nice along side. 🌱

Good afternoon Margaret, late Spring is indeed the time in the garden - nothing has flopped yet! I am going to have to be careful with the euphorbia- I didn’t know it sent out runners so freely and at such a distance - it’s coming out 😆 The weigelas have been such a success - except the beautiful small wine and roses which didn’t do well in the two places I put it - then half died - RIP. Three strikes…

I am still battling the euphorbia the previous owner of the house planted, before 2014 😱..a different variety to yours! Oh well, it gets us out in the fresh air. I have learned my ‘euphorbia’ lesson. However the ‘Ascot Rainbow’ so far has been as good as gold. I am also starting to like the tall ‘prairie’ perennials like rudbeckia - this Summer should sort out my feelings as the lawn bed is getting pretty tall! How was London?

Sorry, I missed this message, I was in Sydney. I recently saw a rudbeckia in a nursery for GBP12 I thought it was a bit expensive, so I didn't buy it, especially when some are annuals. I arrive in London in July for Hampton Court. I have tickets for Thurs and Friday as I want to avoid the crowds of the weekend.. I hope that works for me! I will go to Kew. I want to go to The British Museum and have also booked for a day trip to The Cotswolds. The remaining days will be in Sussex. I CANNOT WAIT. Next time, I want to do Tatton RHS, Bridgewater and The Lakes District. My Aunt lives in Cheshire. Hope you are enjoying your summer and are having the right amount of rain!

These Videos are so cool, knowledgable! Dear Paul got a little thing though with our Parthenocissus quinquefolia. we got them for a year now but they are just not making any 'aerial roots?' to make them grow vast against the wall. they do make these little twirly vines (like grape) but not the actual roots as like ivy does...i do hold them against the wall every 20-30cm with hooks but maybe its not enough with these winds. im at a loss, do you happen to know a perfect way to make them grow these aerial roots so my side wall is looking smashing soon? Sorry too for my wording..not sure how you call those roots in english but i hope you understand what i mean. thank you

Good morning. I know exactly what you mean - these aerial roots (I sometimes call them adventitious roots if I want to sounds as though I know what I’m talking about 😀) sometimes take a while to get going. Good idea to start by supporting the stems as close to the wall as possible. Two tips would be: use blu tack to hold and encourage it and also wet the wall. Hope that helps - it’s worth the wait as your Virginia creeper will look lovely in Autumn in its red colours.

I got the blu tack idea from a TV gardener. My own view (but this is without personal experience but it is what my climbing hydrangea does) is that the new growth will produce these aerial roots but old wood won’t. I think you might have to persevere for a while but it will ‘suddenly’ get the ‘growth’ message and start to climb properly and vigorously.

Thank you - yes, you are totally correct. I was still thinking of the euphorbia next to it. You will also have noticed just after that I called the plant ‘calendula’ but meant to say ‘campanula’. I did put the correct name on screen. I have found in getting older I do make mistakes but usually correct them on the caption - that’s the theory anyway 😀
