Awesome work, but 2 things. You could have use a press in dowel pin and a counter sunk hole drilled in the bushing. Second thing, why don't you use bronze? If there's ever a disruption in oil pressure the cams or the will not be damaged because bronze can run without oil for a while

Have you ever tried cracking your bearing sleeves on an expanding mandrel as they commonly do on rods for marine engines? Just curious. I did it one time and had to finish line home the journals for the clearance I was shooting for. Next time I will finish note closer to size. I left quite a bit to take out not knowing if deformation may have been as issue. I held the inserts with pins. Used stud and bearing mount to glue them in place with shims on the cam journals for preload while clamping up. Turned out very nicely. Older Honda trail bike.

I hate a brand which does not care about the lubrication of the cylinder head. All the damage is coming insufficient pressure oil for an aluminium bearing. And bad surface treatment of the steel of the rockers.
@lukeanderson5781 Жыл бұрын
It probably ran out of oil and took out all the plain bearings first. Roller/ball bearing crank doesn't need much oil.
@pabloricardodetarragon2649 Жыл бұрын
@@lukeanderson5781 I'm afraid It's a bit more subtle than that. Ball and roller bearings do not need high pressure oil. The aluminium plain bearings yes so the oil pump has to be big enough to give a pressure somewhere the 2.5 to 5.5 kg/cm2 at the head whatever the RPM, even the lowest ones. The dirt bikes spend a lot of time at low RPM, or with big variations of RPM. If the oil pump is a bit too small the plain bearings will first suffer at low RPM wearing at high rate, that''s probably the problem of the KTM when you see the size of the pump. The problem is recurrent on various KTM models. Morality: or you put the camshaft on ball bearings so there are no plain bearings in the engine (the best solution but sometimes complicated) and the oil pump has for main purpose the cooling of the internal parts like the head and the piston. Or you put a beefy pump giving enough pressure at idle even with a low oil level or a dirty filter.
