Love your work!! Very clear and informative Starting a 14’x18’ covered patio today. The customer already had/has coarse stone laid out with plastic underneath - it wasn’t compacted yet with a machine Could compacting by hand be enough and proceeding with concrete dust or hpb?

I would always opt for equipment for compaction

I rented one and it was great for many reasons. It was easier to move from vehicle to project and compacted enough for patio.

When using an open graded base with HPB, I notice sometimes that the pavers are not as uniform at the surface as they would be when using sand as the bedding layer. Do you recommend using the roller tamper to tamp the pavers before applying polymeric sand to even out any surface deviation? Would this potentially disturb nice straight lines in the border pavers that are much smaller than the inner slabs, similar to the squadra/slab that you used in the video. Thanks!

Yeah depending on the paver it will mess up your lines. I don’t like to use a tamper until I have something in the joints for that reason.

Maybe in a few years when the jumping jack is fixed you can do a review of that compactor?

Do you tamp the pavers before the polymeric or only after you have applied the polymeric?

Question for the OP if the blue stone was not laid down properly and not compacted after I remove old sand and sweep new sand in them compact it, is it possible the stone can shift and sink making it an even bigger problem?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Жыл бұрын
I wouldn’t know without knowing how the base was constructed. There is likely not a lot of movement left it is an older project. Also without spacers separating the bluestone and no jointing sand in there, it is possible that they move if you compact before you put more jointing compound into the joints.

@@iamahardscaper I was using sek polysweep and made sure to give good water. But week later I am always finding some sand on pavers seems like the sand is hard but there seems to be a tiny loose layer on surfaxe

Can you lay mega Melville slabs on an open grade base or should you use granular A for a backyard project thats final height needs to be 1.5 inches below grade?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Жыл бұрын
You could do either. Just have a plan on where to direct / collect water.

Does this work good on slate finshed pavers. I would much rather this machine than a conventional plate compactor. Did you put in your edge constraint first?
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Жыл бұрын
yes it will work on textured surfaces. Yes always edge restraint first

@@iamahardscaper thanks. Would the vibration knock the edge restraint out of place? Especially if you use concrete edge.
@iamahardscaper
@iamahardscaper Жыл бұрын
No it shouldn't, just make sure your concrete edge is on the base and not the bedding layer. and don't compact right to the edge of the border stone.
