Yea, absolutely still want that fight. As a fan, I'm selfish. I want Jon to be the one true goat, But he still has impressive performances to give to secure that status. Jon, u gotta set that Bar so dam high That ppl get vertigo just by thinking of surpassing it. DJon, don't let the fear of failing outweigh the Fear of not being the undisputed best. For someone who's missed one fight night in the last decade or so, aka not the target demographic for your marketing team, this is 100% a better fight. If I had to pick between two of the most devastating heavyweights on the roster (Pavlovich on a 6 KO streak and Aspinall with the shortest avg fight time in the UFC) or 2 guys who by their own admission have no future in the sport, it's not a very tough choice.

hot take: I love giving contenders the opportunity to win belts against each other versus legends. Sometimes we see contenders choke against legends, but if we can get the contender the confidence of the belt and then let him go against legends it changes things. I think Pavlovich and Aspinall are 1 fight away from both being stars. If they show up and deliver a good fight for the fans both of their stocks will rise regardless of outcome.
@destroyerofmorons
@destroyerofmorons 11 ай бұрын
This isn’t a hot take and it doesn’t really matter what you think. It’s a championship fight, not a contender rankings build up. Whoever’s holding the belt is who’s gonna fight, regardless if they’re a “legend” or not (and most of the time they’re not because legends are old and washed). Your comment doesn’t really make much sense
@michael95621
@michael95621 11 ай бұрын
@@destroyerofmorons There's a difference between a comment not making sense and someone not understanding it. What I'm saying is something Chael has literally said before. When you fight people who you've idolized you sometimes don't rise to the occasion even though your skills are actually better. I understand that is part of the sport, but as a fan I'd prefer to watch two people who are fully confident go at it instead of seeing one win just because the other choked. All I'm saying is I'm happy to watch two new era guys get a chance to get the belt and build some confidence as a champion before going against the p4p goat.
@destroyerofmorons
@destroyerofmorons 11 ай бұрын

@@destroyerofmorons You're not wrong there is always a hype on can this new guy beat the long time champ or legend, it adds to the story for sure. I just think we've seen a lot of times of guys get beaten by a guy they are better than because mentally they weren't there yet, but 2 years later they are there. It might just be an unavoidable thing, you have to experience it to grow there is no other way so I could be wrong. I just think Aspinall vs. Pavolich is going to be fireworks and I'm a lot more excited for this fight.

Im beyond disappointed and utterly unsatisfied with this whole situation. Jon not being stripped is disgusting levels of favoritism when Jiri got stripped within a week of a completely bogus diagnosis, and Hill gave his back out of pure honor something that doesn’t even make sense to Jon jones. Stipe gets no retirement fight or if he does he’s going to have the odds stacked against him even more and the last thing I want to see is an even older stipe who really just wants to be a fire fighter, get knocked out by Jon jones. I get that this is the nature of the business sometimes but what makes all of this even worse, Aspinal and Pavolich aren’t even given a genuine undisputed championship fight. They’re fighting for a belt that means literally nothing in this scenario because Jon is going to get back from this injury and just go fight stipe, then retire. He will not be fighting the interim champion which in my opinion is the biggest slap in the face to the die hard fans like myself and everyone else here. As well as both fighters who have earned their undisputed championship bout and are now about to go out there and do 60% more work for literally NONE of the reward of becoming a legitimate champion!

You're not the Heavyweight GOAT, if you disappear for over 2 years, until Ngannou is gone and then get an immediate title fight, because Daddy Dana believes it to be such a blockbuster fight, it would make his bank account triple of what it is now, just so you can pull out the moment, you're actual opponent gets injured... I've always said leave Tom vs Gane until one of them has the belt, 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 vs 🇫🇷 the old rivalry is back done in Europe it would be massive. 1000 years of war comes done to this lol.

Strip Jon, make Aspinal vs Sergei for the HW Championship, then make Jon vs Stipe for the interim. Have no idea why Jon gets to hold onto belts he can’t defend for another year

Why an interim belt though? IF Jones returns (which I kinda doubt) and IF he beats Aspinall/Pavlovich, he'll retire immediately which means yet another period without a real champion. Over the years this division is kinda ruined by these 'stars' imho

I agree aspinal vs pavlovich is better for the division in the long run. But I hate that we don't get stipe again this year. Might as well scrap the Jones vs stipe match entirely imo. By late 2024 Jones has no appeal, and Stipe is aging out. Stipe deserves to retire with his head heald high. Jon needs to fight the new champ when/if he comes back.

SuRREAL GANE 😂. I was looking forward to Bones vs Miocic, however, as a Brit I’m absolutely buzzing to see Tommy A fight for the belt but I do think it should be for the Undisputed considering Jon will likely be out for a year.

With JJ and Stipe both planning on calling it a Career it made their fight a brick wall of a story with nothing on the other side, a dead end.....

Of course this is better! Nothing is worse then being excited after a fight for their next one… but knowing the next one won’t be for another 2-3yrs (if at all). Stop the title from John, and they can both do their retirement fight as a “Legacy Fight” for a made-up belt of Baddest Heavyweight of All Time. The heavyweight division gets to go on… the legends get to have their one more… and the UFC doesn’t have to deal with their heavyweight champion declining to fight the Interim Champion… everybody wins

Jones and Miocic are over the hill. As excellent as they were, I don't expect these older fighters to give us their best, because those days are behind them. It's good to see two young, elite fighters instead.

Jones would starch aspinwall today, tomorrow and every single day till they are both too frail to walk. And then Jones would crawl on top of him and still mush him!

It gets very frustrating when you have guys who don’t want to do their jobs. Guys that sit out for years and then you can’t hardly get back for anything. It is not a fun part of the sport
