Where online? Good luck if you are not a trusted seller on Ebay no one will buy off you , most definitely when you're asking $15,000 for something. Just because you have a pic of what you're selling does not mean that is what they will get in the mail after sending you the money ... 50% of the going value is fair ...

+rollyrama2009 well its also the fact that sometimes the owner could have just found it in the remains of a dead relative's belongings. In many cases, the dead relative could have left the guy his house and car. and in the process of searching the house finds the coin. At that point he litterally got the coin for nothing so when that factors in, the guy has $8000 of profit. Or a more likely scenario could be that this coin belonged to an old wealth or at least financially well off couple that just happen to sell the coin to this guy for like say just as an example $2000 because it was more than what they originally paid for it and didnt know the true value. So this guy after some time goes to the pawn shop to sell it.

Rick is the master of bullshitting. "I gotta send it off, things can pop up when I send it off. I'm assuming all the risk here". Are you kidding me? it's an authentic coin from the 1800s.
@jtslaptop
@jtslaptop 2 жыл бұрын
@J 818 Rick has to send it off to be officially graded. His expert didn’t grade it. He gave his opinion after looking at it for a minute or two. The grade of coins like this makes all the difference in the value. The fact that the expert determined it was authentic does not completely determine its value.
@sehoujay
@sehoujay 2 жыл бұрын
@@jtslaptop Ok by that logic, the expert gave a conservative estimate since he knows his client (Rick) wouldn't be too happy if he ended up losing money. Therefore, if everything checks out, the coin's actual value would be closer to 20k than 15k.

Ask a poor person to sell you something for half it’s value and they get $8k for an hours work. Or ask a poor person to put it months of work and research in order to sell that item at face value. Most poor people are taking the quick easy low cash. That’s why they are poor.

"Nobody works for free" What a ridiculous statement in response to the OP's comment. If Rick's explanation about the uncertainty of having it graded is correct then it would have also applied to the 10k coin that he paid 8.5k for. But for some reason, it only applies to this coin right? You are the type of person who goes into a pawnshop and gets ripped off, then defends that pawn broker. Rick's entire business is built on making the highest profit possible.. Do you really think that all of his prices are fair? My grandfather told me that men are becoming rare these days and he was absolutely right. I don't know how you even stand up right without the use of a spine.
@firstlastnamehere4895
@firstlastnamehere4895 6 жыл бұрын
Pawn shops will give you half the price that it's valued at because they have to turn a profit on it as well. In my opinion he shouldve got at least 10k for it because the expert said it can be retailed 15k and up. Watch Rick's greedy ass sale it for 20-25k

Jason Webb what’s it really like?
@jasonwebb1882
@jasonwebb1882 6 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Selvas well first off. This show runs like a museum that buys and sells very high dollar stuff. Where im from the most money given out was $10,000 in 1982 for a 3 caret diamond that ended up being a CZ which is a man made diamond. Maybe with then being located in Vegas they can sell buy and sell stuff that would break just about every pawn shop that I know. Plus the show helps them out too. So there risk factor is a lot lower. What else would you like to know. Oh I have to throw this in. The object of a pawn shop is to buy it for the least amount and sell it for the most.
@7volcast
@7volcast 6 жыл бұрын
Jason Webb what’s the most common items people bring in? Cell phones? Have you ever gotten stolen goods? Or fakes
@jasonwebb1882
@jasonwebb1882 6 жыл бұрын
Emmanuel Selvas personally I believe that a pawn shop has a license to steal. ( My opinion only ). Items that are most common that are brought in. 1. TV's 2. Jewelry 3. Guns 4. Tools. 5. Stereo's. Mostly junk that people have around there house that they think they can get money for. Now there are some shops that will take cars. But you have to have the title and can't be over a certain age,like 5 years old. Unless you come in with a fine old car that is restored or in mint condition. Now for stolen items. Yes all the time. The cops will show up and take the stolen items back to the owner with the shop taking the full lose of that item. Which sucks. Could you imagine paying a couple grand for a gold chain and the cops picking it up and not giving you 1 red cent for it? A couple grand is an example most big chains that you see around rappers necks are hollow or filled. But yes shops get burnt all the time. Pawn shops make their money on other people's suffering. This is one thing that's fact. If you ever go into one and really need money. Never let them know how bad you need it. They will use it to their advantage 100percent of the time and don't think they won't lie to you. Remember, they want what you got for the cheapest they can get it. So if you bring in something worth a solid $100 used. If they even smell that you need the money that bad. They are going to only offer $20-25 for it. But if you go in and be yourself you might be able to get $59-60. They want and need to make money. What's funny is, I watched a woman come in one day with a PlayStation 2. At the time sold brand new for $99.99 at Walmart and it came with 2 games. She came demanding$150 got it. I couldn't help it and started laughing and had to go to the back of the store. The owner came back there and asked me what was so funny. I told him that I picked up the something the night before for my son at Walmart. The owner didn't know anything about games. But he walked back out there and told her that he would be glad to give her $10 for it. I swear she replied that she had just paid $108.00 for it and knew it was worth more than that. This is how people act.every once in awhile someone will get lucky and slip something through. The best one I've seen happened to me. A guy came in and wanted to seek two rings. I check then out. 18 cart golf and a 2 caret diamond in the middle. I make him an offer of $400. He said no thanks and walked out. About 5 minutes later came back in and said ok I'll take it. This is where i messed up. I should've checked them agin to make sure they were the same rings. I didn't and bought 2 fakes that looked just like the real ones. This was back in 1987. Needless to say if I hand them back to the customer, then they hand then back to me. I will check it ever time. Anyway this is is just a little on the pawn shop business. Pawn Stars is a great show and have a lot of historic items and can learn from it. Maybe it's the location and people really do have cannons and ancient swords. But not where I am from. Have a good one and peace to you and your family

It's only worth $15k if there is a buyer out there willing to pay that amount so I am not sure if he really got 'screwed' for accepting $8k. Uber rare coins like that can be quite illiquid and it can take a while to find an enthusiast willing to pay the exact estimated value. On the other hand some items constantly fetch more than their estimated value. I would be interested to see someone bring in an original low numbered copy of The White Album by The Beatles. The ones numbered below 100 almost always fetched more than the estimated value.

The "C" is usually just where the coin was minted which usually doesn't have a very significant effect on the value of coins anyway. Kinda weird he was focusing so much on that one detail.

Totally ridiculous. He had an expert look at it if I would’ve known who complain. You takeoff 20% for auctions the nets $12,000 if he’s willing to wait a few months for the money versus $8000 now.

Sure, this dude got suckered to some. But, obviously this was some dude who isnt a collector or anything and just had this laying around his house as a novelty piece, and you guys gotta realize that. Imagine taking some random thing in ur house thats old and collecting dust and has been sitting there for years on end to the pawn shop and leaving w a couple grand in your pocket. Besides, they're probably only gonna make 2-3k off of it after expenses and what not.
