For Latter-day Saints, tithing is a natural and integrated aspect of their religious belief and practice. By the biblical definition, tithing is one-tenth, and Church members interpret this as a tenth of their “increase,” or income, annually. It is paid on the honor system. No one asks to see income statements or pay slips.
Tithes and other charitable donations help the Church carry out its mission of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ, caring for the poor, and strengthening members’ faith and commitment to Jesus Christ.
Tithing donations are most usually remitted through the local congregational leader, or bishop, and from there to Church headquarters, where they are allocated and disbursed directly to the Church’s many worldwide programs, including its educational, missionary, building, humanitarian and welfare efforts.

When you pay tithing, the Lord is able to help you more. I found this out as a poor college student when I prayed and followed this commandment even when it seemed like I didn't have enough. I felt his blessings and he helped me in so many ways that I needed and wouldn't have been able to obtain had I not followed him.

They decided to leave the job, making them without income, yet they still paid their tithe, every single month. Because of the sacrifice they were blessed with a job above their previous supervisor!

I paid tithing when unemployed, I could not withhold my offering from a generous Lord. I continued to attend the Temple, we could only afford the petrol nothing else. I have since been blessed with my dream job and have my finances straight. The Lord directed me through my faithfulness in paying my tithing to my job and I have been incredibly blessed.

My non member family cannot understand how I can pay tithing on a fixed income. I tell them it very easy. That money belongs to the Lord, not me. I have been blessed many times. 70 years old and no debt. I have had no debt since 1985. But I cannot escape the trials that are common to mankind. Main reason it's part the TEMPLE recommend.

When I began tithing, I was a single mom with 2 children (and no child support) making $10.50/hr (paying $950.00/ month for the home I was renting in the Bay area of CA) and just becoming active in the church after a number of years of inactivity. Less than a year later, I had met, fell in love with and married a beautiful man (a single dad of one) who loved me AND my children (12 & 13). A year after our marriage, he joined the church; a year after that, we were sealed in the Oakland Temple (with 2 of our 3 children). I KNOW that he and our life together was a gift to me for my faithfulness in tithing at a very difficult time in my life. Whenever I feeling unloved or ignored by God, all I have to do is REMEMBER these things! The blessings of paying a tithe are not ALWAYS financial (although, they can be). I can testify to that!❤️

Amen I love paying tithing to and I've also realized that heavenly father doesn't always blesses in money when we do type but gives us blessings we need. I have seen Miracles come from tithing one thing I won't do anymore is not pay my tithing cuz I can't afford not to which I pay online these days. The minute I get my direct deposit I go online immediately and I put my tithing in the system and I don't spend it until it goes through. If you don't pay your tithing then you are robbing God and not only missing on the blessings that come from it

4 years ago, I got nerve damage in my hip from an unlucky fall, and found out I had ovarian cancer. We figured temporary disability would cover things until the day I could go back to work. When the temporary disability ran out, I was still mostly bedridden and in incredible pain. The Church then assisted us with bills so we did not lose our apartment. Now when we pay tithing, it's not just the feeling of being faithful - but knowing that other members who experience tragedy will also be taken care of. It reminds me of the phrase, "It takes a village to raise a child.". But in this case our Church has a system which allows our village to raise up each other! It warms my heart more than I can describe. 🥰

In Zimbabwe there was a food crisis, the church gave us 50kg bags of rice, 50kg beans, 4 boxes of ABC soups, cooking oil, salt and sugar e.t.c...all the basics a family would need to sustain themselves. Whats amazing is my family never paid a single cent of tithing money but we still got all these every month. All I can say is thank you to all those that were paying tithes and offering, your sacrifices really made a diffences. I am sure then you were also still a member, so chances are that you sacrifice fed millions of starving families, so maybe the blessings the lord has for you is my thanks to all that pay tithes and offering

I have benefitted from paying tithing for years….blessings seem to come out of the woodwork when I pay, this time I got money owed me from the state. Other times, utilities are low. Other times, extra money appears in one of my accounts. Not sure how. Other times I cannot remember. Every month, I can save a lot, because I have a food and supply storage, 72-hour kit items, and I am almost out of debt. I will need this when I go to live at a new assisted living place. I have other blessings, too.

I'm not sure what bible translation is being quoted in this video but in the ones that I read biblical, systematic tithes were only received as consumable items. God’s commanded tithe is a) seed of the land. (Le. 27:30) b) fruit of the tree. (Le. 27:30) c) every tenth animal to pass under the rod. (Le 27:32) d) corn. (De. 12:17) e) wine. (De. 12:17) f) oil. (De. 12:17) g) seed. (De. 14:22) h) corn. (De. 14:23) i) wine. (De.14:23) j) oil. (De.14:23) k) oxen. (De. 14:26) l) sheep. (De. 14:26) m) wine. (De. 14:26) n) strong drink. (De. 14:26) o) oxen. (2 Ch. 31:6) p) sheep. (2 Ch. 31:6) q) tithes of our ground. (Ne. 10:37) r) tithes out of the fields. (Ne. 12:44) s) corn. (Ne. 13:5) t) wine. (Ne. 13:5) u) oil. (Ne. 13:5) v) corn. (Ne. 13:12) w) wine. (Ne. 13:12) x) oil. (Ne. 13:12) y) food. (Mal. 3:10) z) mint. (Matt. 23:23) aa) anise. (Matt. 23:23) ab) cummin. (Matt. 23:23) ac) mint. (Lu. 11:42) ad) rue. (Lu. 11:42) ae) herbs. (Lu. 11:42) All biblical, systematic tithes were specifically purposed towards the Levitical theocracy, the poor (every 3 years), and the festivals (consumed and shared). Monetizing the systematic tithe was man's idea after the bible was written.

Mark, that's operating under the assumption that God doesn't lead His church. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints believes in the principle of living prophets who communicate the will of God to the people. The change to a monetary system makes more sense given our day and age and came through the proper channels (again, I'm speaking for our church specifically, I can't speak for other churches)

I’ve been hesitant to become a member for many reasons but tithing being one of the main ones. Members aren’t forced to pay tithing but are not allowed to enter the temple to perform necessary ordinances if they don’t. Many LDS members who struggle financially give their tithing to the church, when the church literally has millions of dollars invested into stocks like Apple and Amazon. Tithing money from hard working members should not be used in the stock market like that. I’ve been investigating this religion for 7 years now. I absolutely love the scriptures but for the life of me, I don’t like or agree with church leadership.

I pay my tithing to God, it just happens to go towards the church and other members through fasting funds. I'm on a fixed income, and I always have what I need, and even want at times. I have leftovers to bless others as well. When you show faith and where your loyalty lies then God takes care of you. Showing obedience to the Lord has given me more blessings than I know what to do with, and I don't mean money. Paying tithing to be able to enjoy the blessings of the temple is such a small sacrifice to make. For me it's priceless, and it has strengthened my relationship with the Lord.

Did you know that, concerning giving, or tithing, or prosperity, Malachi 3:8-12 is not the full counsel of God? It is an excerpt, quoted to the church for centuries (believe it or not), which is a misrepresentation of God's counsel. We've accepted it because that's what we have always been taught. Here are a few points to consider. -- Who did God appoint to receive tithes? God said, "And, behold, I have given the children of Levi all the tenth [the tithe] in Israel for an inheritance, for their service which they serve, even the service of the tabernacle of the congregation (Numbers 18:21-23). In this scripture, God established who receives the tithe (the Levites), and why they received it (they received no inheritance, and they served in the temple). This assignment is exclusive to Levites. A pastor cannot assume this assignment, he has never been scripturally assigned by God to collect tithes, he is not a Levite. In that same sense, only a Levite, never a pastor, could ever serve in a Jewish temple. The church has not replaced the Jewish temple, and pastors have not replaced Levites. -- People are blessed when they give, not because of Malachi 3, which is based on the Law of Moses, an Old Testament law that has been replaced by Grace under Christ, at the cross. When we give, we are blessed because Jesus said, "Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you" (Luke 6:38). It is this principle of giving and receiving at work, when we give and are blessed. Not the expired law of tithing, which was required of the Jews (never Gentiles), and could only be received by Levite priests because they received no inheritance and were set apart to work fully in the Jewish temple. -- So, what does New Testament giving look like? Paul said, “Now about the collection for the Lord’s people: Do what I told the Galatian churches to do. On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income, saving it up, so that when I come no collections will have to be made” (1 Corinthians 16:1-2). Did you catch that? (1) He said, *“Do what I tell the Galatian churches to do.”* In other words, what I’m about to say is the standard for the church to follow. (2) The giving is *“about the collection for the Lord’s people.”* It is right to use some of the offerings to pay the salary of the pastor and those who minister, because the laborer is worthy of his wages (Luke 10:7). But keep the purpose in mind: is to meet the needs of the Lord’s people - the church. (3) *On the first day of every week, each one of you should set aside a sum of money in keeping with your income.* (a) It is right to set aside a sum of money to support the church. Prayers alone does not support missionaries or pay the church’s bills. The ministry needs funds. (b) How much should you set aside? Where does it say 10 percent? *There is no place in the entire bible where the church, or a Gentile, or any non-Jewish individual is asked or required to pay a tithe.* The paying of tithes in the New Testament is man-made. God has never required this of the church. So, how much should you set aside? The scripture says, *“in keeping with your income.”* In other words, as you are able, whether that is 1 percent, or 5 percent, or 10 percent, or 20 percent. That’s between you and God. No pastor has a right to require you to do what God does not require you to do. -- There is much more, such as Abraham's tithe to Melchizedek, Jacob's promise to tithe, the history of when and why the New Testament church tithes (there is actually a date!), and the scriptures that speak to these issues. Again, every pastor has a right to collect offerings in support of the ministry; I fully agree with supporting the church financially. But our giving must be godly. It is wrong to require people to tithe, contrary to the scriptures, then say that we live according to the scriptures. Four biblical truths regarding tithing, in summary: (1) There is no scripture that authorizes anyone but a Levite to receive tithes. (2) There is no scripture that authorizes a pastor to receive tithes. (3) There is no scripture that requires a Gentile to tithe. (4) There is no scripture that requires the church to tithe. Sadly, most are not being taught how to make this investment even among those to who the fullness of the gospel has been given. I would warn against "investing" with institutions, but invest by creating the value your self with the help of God directly to those who need it most rather than feed the beast that swallows the majority to never come out again.

@@CalledtoShare I imagine you aren't one to consider the broader impacts of religious policies and strictly obey the Brethren without consideration of consequences. It's unclear what you are attempting to convey with your example regarding Joseph but it is interesting how Joseph prophicied about the incoming famine before he recommended that grain be stored. Regardless, the Church has spent $2.5 bln since 1985 on humanitarian efforts. That's nothing compared their stockpile. The Church has historically suggested that all of that tithing went to good causes and now tithe payers are often baffled to learn that the Church just sits on it. And that "proper channels" excuse is lame. The Church funtionally defines "proper channels" as people they think are likely to convert. They'll dig a well in Africa with the hopes of converting local people which is fundementally predatory because with the expectation of conversion coming tithing payments. Yet, tithing is not an investment. Nothing comes back to you. All it does it limit your financial flexibility, especially for lower income people, creating increased financial strain. As their financial strain continues, they are urged to put more effort into the church and to continue to pay their tithing. It is a downward spiral that keep people reliant on the church by convincing them to give up their hard earned money.
