I moved to Mexico one year ago and live in the state of Oaxaca. I recently became an IMSS member. The premiums increase substantially every year, but it is still much more affordable than private health insurance. It also includes prescribed meds and basic (non-cosmetic) dental services. Despite not knowing much Spanish, the folks at the IMSS administration office were kind enough to work with me to get me signed up. I have already used the IMSS services numerous times and found it to be adequate as long as you have the attitude that you may have to wait to be seen by a doctor unless you are someone in need of immediate critical care. If your visit is for something relatively minor, be prepared for a long wait in the waiting area.

Hi Jerry!!! I recently moved to Ajijic! Best decision ever. I really want to thank you for recommending Cruz! He is the absolute best. I have come to refer to him as my ‘personal assistant and emotional support’ cab driver! Kidding aside, he is really wonderful, as are all the locals. This is truly a magical place (Dental Express is awesome too!!!)

Thanks Jerry. I love it when you take us for a ride and point out things like the spot that's called the "marriage of the trees". I guess it was the last video when you pondered getting an electric trike for your home in Mexico, too, but thought it might not be very comfortable riding over uneven roads to the Carreterra. Maybe you could just drive to one of the bike rental shops and rent one to ride on the bicycle path just for fun and have a more comfortable ride. Always looking for alternatives.☺

You crack me up! I can relate! Big Up to you and your insights to living Lakeside. After watching one of your videos with Mitzi ( Fenix Realtor ) your vecinos at the time. Moved here last year from Phoenix, Az . Mitzi’s guidance thru the process of buying a house here and friendly community spirit she lives daily, was so inviting. She has become a good friend and we’re both grew up 10 miles from each other. Writing this so you continue to do what you do here “what’s on my mind today” oh, Nanny Rules 😂

Yes I can understand the great feeling of paying less once established. It's the established part that is the kicker. The year 2000 established is different than trying to be established in the year 2023 where you live, that's the kicker. Not criticism just an observation. I am only nine years behind you and I understand the present time we live in, 2023. I still enjoy your videos, been subscribed for years.

Jerry Brown was just crying because his subscriber numbers didn't keep up with other growing channels in Mexico. Hey, it's reality. We get old and surprisingly the younger audiences (even in their 50s) don't really follow channels detailing Medicare benefits , itemized household budgets of the old and sedentary, etc. And if you want more subscribers, you'll have to post more Mexico videos too. I've been following Ed's video's on the construction in Chapala resulting in less parking. Not good... I liked your ride-along video today. 👍 😆🤠😄✌️

Loved the drive around, I didn't make it to Chapala this trip, but hopefully in the near future. Flying out later today if my plane doesn't get canceled again. Apparently the pilots don't like when Popocateptl burps too much so between that and torrential downpour last night they canceled me. Thanks for sharing prices on Taxes and other items... really quite amazing how reasonable they are even with inflation. looking forward to more videos ... Maybe I will see ya in Arizona next time if our paths cross... we were minutes away from each other when you went to the Organ cactus park this year. ... laters!

Thanks for the answer about the IMSS. Also, you nailed it with giving Love for your buddy Mr. Jerry LOL. You will get there soon I wish. Just as a compliment, you are just as nice or maybe even nicer in many ways an Jerry LOL. Live and enjoy life. You have a good life in Mexico I'm sure you worked vary hard for it to be living in Mexico. Viva Mexico but we need to also Viva our beloved USA. US, is a great country it's just to sad that things have changed but it is still a great country. I rather live in the US an living in Europe, Ukraine or Somalia or the African country's so there is that answer for those who don't like the US anymore.

Steve. Hopefully our beloved JC will answer you. If you are or have that residente status, you can live in Mexico till you die. And if you are living in Mexico as a tourist ok, then it is up to those so very nice officers who have control over if you get that 180 day tourist status visa or not. You better leave the country after you whatever days you get if so. So, if you get 20 days being in Mexico ok, enjoy but leave a day before so you can stay safe and have good papers, so you can come back. End of my story. Hopefully our beloved JC will get back to you also.

A question for your next video: I'm an 82 year old geezer who is on some meds that make drinking alcohol ill-advised. I still like the conviviality of bars and the taste of beer. From your experience, do most bars stock one of the many non-alcoholic beers? I know I can buy them in stores but I prefer the social setting of bars, etc. I enjoy your videos. Keep up the good work.

Very good point. I'm waiting for the same. Many who do have that IMSS, they do use private doctors and medical care. They just have that IMSS as a base just incase they get broke and can not afford that private anymore but many do use that private and many don't.

Still consider me a new friend, my speaking its not that much clear as my writing by the way. One of these day we can hold a converastion, I visit chapala, jocotepec and ajijic often. More than 20,000 USA, Canadian, and European retirees call Lake Chapala home. Most of them have a vehicle here. Traffic is sometimes heavy, but for the most part Mexican drivers are polite. Safe? I don't know you. Are you a good driver? Will I be safe if you come here with your pickup truck?

JC, how old are you? I'm 63 and retired and just getting by in the US. I have SS, possibly as much as you. I keep hearing about how the drug cartels actually run the government in Mexico and how it's not generally regarded as safe to live there. I watch your videos and you seem to portray something very contrary to what I thought I knew. You have a beautiful home. What keeps others non-lawful people from taking it away from you? I defend my small farm with small arms and I'm willing to use them in defense of my home. Does the government allow you to keep arms like an AR-15 rifle or any other rifle for that matter? You have worked hard for what you have, as have I. Why do you feel safe and secure where you live?

Yes … the dollar drop from 21 to 17 is a 19% increase in the USD cost of living in Mexico. That added to inflation come to between 25 and 30% for those of us earning dollars. We retirees are mostly ok, but I feel bad for those Mexican Americans sending money back home to families here.
