Pellet count IS more critical this is why we use SMALLER pellets like #4s in bismuth and #9s in tss. Very few people use #6 in steel. I don't think you should compare them all in the same sizes. It's apples and oranges.

Man that video opened my eyes, I just assumed it was more of a volume thing like a 1/4 cup of #2 pellets was same pellet count as #2 bismuth. But if it’s measured in weight then it’s like the old saying, which is heavier, a pound of feathers or a pound of lead. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us. So if your going from a 1-1/4 oz steel load you would need 1-1/2oz bismuth load to keep pellet count closer to steel.

Comparing the same shot size in all material types, yes, steel does have more pellet count on target due to it being lighter so takes more pellets to make 1 oz. The benefits of shooting bismuth and TSS is you can shoot smaller shot size, 2-3 on bismuth and 4-5 on TSS, and due to the weight of the shot you still get the same knockdown power of the larger steel size shot.

I'm the proud owner of a Muller Decoy for my A5(since 2016).... after 5 years off from Duck hunting I'm getting back in pond again... and back to reloading and i have found out that a lot of stuff may have changed...My Question is where can I find a recipe to reload 3" 1 3/8oz #6 for ducks... and cant find anything close in any of the 2 manual i just bought last night, nor my couple of old ones that i was using .. as of right now i have 2lbs of Steel that i want to use then will have to switch to Longshot from what I'm seeing on the YT... Thanks and Godspeed!!

How about some card shooting chokes
@raybrenneman724018 күн бұрын
Jim, I own all three of your UFO chokes and love their performance. I don’t understand this video though the way you compare the different shot materials all # 6 and comparing pellet counts. Bismuth and tss excell over steel due to using smaller sizes thus surpassing the steel count while increasing the energy down range and margin of error is increase being you can open up the choke due to higher pellet count. I know you know this that’s why it’s confusing to me why you did this video instead of comparing say#2 steel to # 4 bismuth to #9 tss waterfowl. Pellet count for normal 12ga would be 150; 210; 363 respectively with the bismuth and tss retaining enough lethal energy past 50 yds.

I use TSS with some steel on top. Usually #9 TSS and #5 steel. 50/50 mix. it will make the TSS start to spread out at 35 yards. By 60 it's bigger than a basketball.

I was trained as a scientist and have a decent understanding of parametric statistics. If anyone has a link that statistically demonstrates differences in performance of ANY make of choke over another, please post. There are too many variable involved to enable a supportable analysis. Muller chokes are good, but no better than Rhino, Briley, Carlsons, Trulock etc. And what criteria would you use to determine the “best”? A two dimensional picture of a three dimensional phenomenon (the shot CLOUD) is almost worthless.

I wish this covered pellet momentum (lb-ft/sec), energy (lb-ft), and energy density (lb-ft/in2) at distance (yds) for various shot sizes. Obviously there is a reason why we don't use #7 steel shot size on giant Canada geese at 40 yds, even though steel #7 shot size has more pellets than steel BB shot size pellets.

Hello Mike obviously, at some point it comes to common sense after a while… There's no reason to list all of that technical information because it becomes almost infinite babble… Use basic knowledge, I have already posted in many videos about shots size and distances. You can just google and you'll know what shot sizes work at what distances… for example I do not use steel number seven past twenty five yards due to light weight. However in the right circumstances with the right load and the right Choke and the right game or target I could push that distance further.

You have a total of 13 videos on this channel. None of them appear to cover the topics described. The information presented in this video is neither clear, concise, nor "obvious" in relation to the aforementioned details. Quotes like "steel is king..." is very misleading and ignores discussion of other technical data required to provide clear analysis. This video and line of logic does not convey knowledge and understanding of the topic necessary to explain the details of shotgun shell load and ballistics. By the defensive response, it's not clear that you understand these topics and trying to compensate for lack of knowledge on the subject.

Hey Mike, he does a great job at going in depth on the mid valley mercenary podcast. It’s worth a listen. I believe theirs around 8 or so episodes of him going over numbers.

What is your view on a benelli? I have both the A400 and the Benelli SBE3. I do pretty great with both but seems like everytime I shoot better with my benelli. Pattern both the same over and over again. The only difference I can tell is the weight of both guns. Everyone I ask says the A400 is better. Just seems like I always shoot better with the benelli. What is your thoughts?
@gdwilliams927 ай бұрын
sounds like gun fit to me. the sbe3 fits you better so you shoot it better.
