I disagree Greg. The last thing you want to do when shooting a perfect game is overthink it. When I'm sitting on 11 in a row, I'm usually trying to keep myself calm. The fact that Tom distracted Mika a little with the levity of bowling 100 on TV probably actually helped Mika relax a little. Granted, MIka has thrown many 300 games, so the pressure of the front 11 is probably quite a bit less than for the average bowler. That said, he was still on TV, which I'm sure adds exponentially to that pressure.
@alexrupert926210 жыл бұрын
I see nothing wrong with having a little fun. Sure, it may have been a little disrespectful, I'd even go as far as to say it was rude, but Mika wasn't showing it. As you said, Mika's bowled plenty of 300 games before. If anything, the fact that he was on TV probably messed him up rather than Daugherty's "acting out". If you knew you were going to get $50,000 and a possible title for beating this man with a 300 you'd be a bit nervous too, many people would have choked on the 6th or 7th frame.
@penguin7909 жыл бұрын

just heard about this game in today's telecast. It was also stated that Daugherty won his first PBA title late in 2012. Nice to recover from this match.

I use his pro shop and have bowled with/against him forever. He took this better than most anyone would, if you go into his shop at Oakfield Lanes he has "The 100 Game" ball on display. Good dude.

Gotta love this guy!!! He could have acted like a child and pouted, yet he rolled with the punches and made fun of himself...but better yet made IT FUN for the fans. Bowler of the year!!!

I watch this after a rough day at the lanes because it helps me to realize that even the best of the best have off days. I admire his attitude, though; many of the guys I bowl with blow their lids if they bowl less than a 200

it warms my heart to no end that he was such a good sport about this.

BTW - I bowled on a scratch team with Tom back in the day... he is a very nice guy, and a very good bowler. It was sad to see his first TV appearance be so memorable for the wrong reasons.

Hey, at least he won a title to make up for it

I had two games in a row like this yesterday. Had to come back here to make me feel a little better. At least I was able to convert and stay above the 150s the first two games and finish with a 268 my last. 13 splits in two games.

Good to see they were all good sports about it and still enjoying themselves. I have never seen so many splits in one game.

On the now defunct PBA.com discussion forum, a commenter asked what ball Tom was using on this show. It was a Roto Grip Nomad Dagger. The commenter joked about boycotting that ball since Tom struggled so badly with it on this show.

Did the other guy bowl a 300???
@hatesitrick Жыл бұрын
I read about this and thought it sounded so funny, and had no idea the guy would be making such a joke out of it. What a champ!! Celebrating the last two pins to make 100 was legendary haha. It's also weird to think I've scored higher than that and I can't even bowl. I also once bowled 3 strikes in a row and some girl who worked there was like "that's called a Turkey" and I was like what?! Then I threw a gutter ball. Lol

And let's not forget that Tom came back and won a tournament not long after this if I remember. That was classy.

Thanks to this game, I know about the existence of Tom Daugherty, now in love.

I love it that he amped the crowd up for the two pins. He said “ I need two”. What a great attitude. I would have been dropping f bombs myself. I went bowling last night and I kept getting the 9/, 9/. It was frustrating but I still ended up with 169 and 162 for two games. It was fun.
