You must be psychic. I spent several hours this last weekend viewing videos on changing rear fluid but finally got frustrated after scouring your channel in disbelief that you didn't have a video on it. I never feel quite prepared to do a task until I see you show and explain it. And today, Voilà !... A rear diff' video! There are others who have decent videos on it, but your feel more confident and competent. Of the videos, I too watched one by Banks showing his replacement cover. Great presentation with a compelling argument for support. Is it worth $400?... It just might be. So, I have now: * changed engine oil, after watching your video, * changed Xfer case oil, after watching your video, * changed fuel filters, after watching your video, * lubed front axels, after watching your video, * and next on list is rear diff'... of course, after watching your video. I still have front diff' in near future, maybe after you post one. And I had trans fluid done at dealer, but I'll do it next time.

Did a lot of research to see what axle I had in my 2016 F350 Power stroke to be sure I did or did not need the friction modifier. The Ford dealer here was not sure based on my VIN both in the parts department and service department. Per Dana, you can utilize 75W-90 with the appropriate SHAE-256 spec. This applies to the front and rear Dana axles. On the Sterling 10.5, you can use the more common 75W-90 synthetic oils. I’ve personally ran 75W-140 in my 2017 with the Sterling rear axle with zero issues in temperature as low as 0° F. Personally, I run 75W-90 Mobil Delvac 1 full synthetic on both axles as it meets the necessary requirements for my application. The 75W-85 is not common and is only available through a few sources. Whatever is used, just be sure to change it based on climate and mileage. 30k miles is my personal threshold for axle oils. Your silicone preference is the same as my own. Best one for a diesel engine or an axle. Zero leakage.

Supposed to fill to center of sight glass which was only about 2.9 qts for me. Was almost thinking of removing the nut on back diff and fill to top and then see if it's in center of sight glass. Got a Sterling 10.5 and the Amsoil 75w140 says "Lubes are formulated with a very robust EP additive package and, as a result, usually do not need the addition of any friction modifier additive, even if recommended by the manufacturer" Would you still add or no? Thanks!

Just a heads up, my 2015 DRW F-350 does not have a Dana 80. Axle code is 3L I believe it’s a sterling 10.5

@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I am getting ready to change the fluid in the front and rear diffs on my 2012 F350 dually. I have the 3L rear axle code (Dana 80 3.73 limited slip) and I was thinking about going with SAE 75W-140 GL-5. Will that work for this axle code and would it be ok to use the same in the front diff (Dana 60)? If not, what do you recommend?

75140 for the rear. 80w90 for the front

What about the 2010 F-250 Super Duty. You have to pay to get a build sheet with the VIN and they dont tell you what you get with it. This truck has 3 leaf springs, mine has 4 but the window sheet says 12.5K trailer tow hitch. I also have the 3.31 ratio limited slip differential that has a ribbed aluminum looking cover

Forget a screwdriver use a stiff hardened putty knife so that you don’t deform the cover.

Didn't some DRW F350's (2016ish) come with a finned aluminum cover stock? In which has a drain plug.

One more question, why the silicone instead of a paper or cork screw type gasket?

Arod - there’s a hose connected to the drivers side of the rear dif. What is that for? I just found mine disconnected at the other end on my’ 17 F450. What should the other end be connected to? Thanks

Arod, could the 2017 M275 Axle, be a direct swap with the Sterling 10.5, providing both have the E-Lock. I already have the f350 rear springs swap in my 250.
