I used to hang out at the end of the night (after my shift working as a line cook in another restaurant) at a nightclub in my hometown, waiting for my roomates (who worked there) to get off work so we could go party (?) somewheres else. Usually, after raising the house lights (duh, GO HOME), last calls for alcohol, thank yous, etc, trying to get the drunk idiots to go home the big guns would come out - they always had two or three CDs (with "In Case of Emergency" scrawled across them in black Sharpie) that would get popped into the CD player - either Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits or Frankie Goes To Hollywood's "Relax" or the nuclear option, ABBA's "Dancing Queen" with a random skip every five to ten seconds that would play endlessly. Within five minutes the bar would clear out, the staff would close and button up and we'd be out the door - so fucking funny!

I'm not a bartender, but... I went to a bar with some friends of mine a few months after Guns N Roses came out with their Sweet Child of Mine. If you don't remember those heady days, all radio stations seemed to play it every seven minutes every single day 24 hours a day. We went to the bar because there was an awesome live band playing, and the lead singer was hot. Of course, at some point the band had to take a break, so someone plugged in the juke box - and Sweet Child of Mine started blaring. Then the second song came on, and it was Sweet Child of Mine. So I got up and unplugged the juke box, turned to the booing crowd, flipped out my middle fingers and yelled, "I hate that F-ing song!" Then I passed out. Tequila was involved.

It's very simple, if you choose to work in a place with a jukebox, deal with it. If you don't like your employer's taste in music, find another job. You're a bartender. You're NOT a music critic. Good analogy. I actually have you beat by a few years. 5 to be exact. Started in 1985. Was watching the infamous Bill Buckner error live. Even saw Mike Tyson get his start on ESPN. Good Times. As for me we had live Irish entertainment so I had those earworms in my head forever like the unicorn song, wild rover etc. But in between sets we'd be playing some playlists that consisted of the usual 80s crap, U2, Bon Jovi and the like. Watched myself evolve from a young punk who thought he was hot shit to the old grumpy guy everyone liked and was respected. Age and the virus finally caught up with me. I refused to wait tables and was able to retire to my one daytime job. I wish you luck my friend. It's a tough way to make a living and wears on you. It got to the point I'd need 1-2 to take the edge off while working, then the occasional Addy to help me thru. I knew the end was near. But I wouldn't trade it for the world.

Pink Floyd, Genesis, The Eagles, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, Fleetwood Mac, Prince, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, The Doors, The Who and that whole generation cemented rock music forever. Get yourself a bunch of twenty somethings and ask their opinion on anything and they will hate on what came before them.

Hummmmm, bartenders. I play in a band and have played in a few bar bands, we always got asked to play... Well some of those songs. My view on it is, we was there to keep the patrons happy which is what a thought the bar tenders was there for also. So give the people what they want. CCR, Sknard, any old Rock, some stones, seger, and eagles? As a band we want everybody to be singing along because we know they are into it and having a good time, good time means buying more drinks which, that is your job, sell more drinks make the bar money equals keep your job.

Dude, every time I go to a bar and a band is playing, my friends and I play "what is the band gonna play next." We're happy if we lose.

There are two kinds of people who go to bars for music: Those who care only about wild drunk dancing to pathetic repetitive cheese and honest hard working citizens who enjoy a certain level of quality and intellect. Guess who these bartenders are talking about?
