This really breaks my heart seeing these lovely people working SO HARD just to make Shea butter and to produce it to the USA for cheap. I buy organic pure Shea butter from a dollar store near my house, and I have to say now that it's not worth $1 for a 3oz of Shea butter but worth like $100 an oz. god bless all the ladies and men that do this on a daily basis

Ihsan Deeb would u pay HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS for just ounces of Shea butter? People love to talk about proper compensation and fair trade practices as if people woukd be willing to pay for the price jump. I’m actually African and a teenager with a minimum wage job woukd be earning a 6 figure salary in Africa. $100 is 10,000 Kenyan shillings. And just $1000 is 100,000 Kenyan shillings. And for Nigerian currency the gap is even bigger. So $5 shea butter would be the equivalent of hundreds of dollars over there. I’m speaking in general terms of the African countries I’ve been to but I don’t know what the exchange rate is for Ghana specifically. And I’m not saying these women shouldn’t be properly compensated, they probably are behaving taken advantage of😣 but we should also be realistic and consider every factor.

I thank these ladies for making Shea butter. This is some serious back breaking work that I know many people would not want to put up with....it isn't easy. Respect is 100% due to these Ladies in Africa for doing this. Also, it is nice to see once again the natural colour of Shea butter when it is done and not that fluorescent bright yellow stuff (which I know is also Shea butter, but with dye added to give it that ultra deep yellow color).

Venusstar22 keep looking, the color comes from the tree root!...the root is put on simmer in pot with water until the water is out and only oil is left...then mixed with the shea...

Valerie Valerie I’m an African immigrant in America with family in the states, Europe, and obviously Africa. Just came from Kenya this summer and trust me, what we consider peanuts over here is A LOT MORE back there. Just $5 is 500 Kenyan shillings. And I think $1 here is like 320 Nigerian naira. So yea. Of course we don’t want these women to get cheated but trust me it isn’t peanuts to them😌

Read "Things Fall Apart" by Chinua Achebe if u want to know about the exploitation of native africans by the "West" who by giving the excuse of "civilizing" third world ppl loots their resources . The western factories buy shea butter in a very low price ,the workers are paid awfully low amount . But the first world companies r selling it to ppl like u in a high price.
