I found your video very helpful. Thanks for posting it. Here's ANOTHER FIX to ad to the mix. My wife's laptop screen was flickering and going on and off with the least amount of movement of the screen. I figured it had to be a loose cable connection or a bad wire in the cable. While unfastening the screen, I left the screen running so I could see what made a difference as I touched things. The 2 bottom screws that hold the screen in were tight. THE 2 TOP SCREWS WERE LOOSE as could be. Just for the heck of it, I tried snugging those 2 screws up, and Voila!! The screen came on bright and consistently stayed on while moving it up and down!! It turned out to be a poor ground related to the 2 top screws! My wife is thrilled to have her computer up and running again.

Hi, that’s very good. In my Toshiba satellite the screen goes black off and on when I am moving the flap. So I think it’s just a cable, either lose or disconnecting. The idea of replacing the whole cable seems like too much… is it easy to buy a new one
@PC_Monkey2 жыл бұрын
Yes, if your screen goes black when you move it, my first guess would be a lose LCD Cable. I would first try unplugging it and then plugging it back in at both ends. Its easy to buy a cable :) If you tell me the model Toshiba you have, I can see if I can find one. I usually use Ebay, Amazon, etc for computer parts

Very helpful! Curious, how to know which needs replacing, the LCD screen or cable? On my laptop, for example, having screen issues (getting stripes or pale colors) when I adjust the angle. What's the easiest way to diagnose which is the culprit? Thanks in advance!
@PC_Monkey4 жыл бұрын
Try the external monitor test as described here in this video. Do the stripes show up there too when you adjust the angle of the laptop monitor? Its most likely a loose or bad LCD Cable or a bad LCD. No way really to know which without replacing them one at a time.

May I ask for help for my laptop screen problem? My laptop screen suddenly turn green and have ghost image left on it. It used to happen a year ago and it was fixed by replacing with a new display-panel. Before buying a new display-panel again, I am doubt that is the connecting cable be the root cause? Can the symptom tell the problem is from display-panel or connecting cable? Anyway, thanks for your videos! I learn a lot from them!

1. Can you try hooking up to an external monitor? Does the issue continue there? 2. You can try unplugging your LCD Cable at both ends. Then plug them back in, taking care to insure they are correctly plugged in and secure.

Thanks for the video. From an newer Insignia LCD digital television I removed the LCD, to test it plugged it in again and it worked. Because I’m making a no-backlight LCD, so the screen is more transparent as done on another KZbin video I peeled off the filter, held it up to the light and I don’t see any screen cracks. I was extremely careful to make sure the LCD cable wires were not damaged. The monitor power indicator goes on but the LCD doesn't show any image when I turn it on now. Do you know what I may have done? May I please know if my TV Insignia LCD is broken since I removed the monitor cable but the thin metal fastener clip housing on the outside of the cable outlet on the LCD bus strip fell off that the monitor cable plug pin-strip plugs into on the LCD bus strip cable outlet? Is it possible if the television electronic circuit board is screwed back in with other screws from the assembly that fit for some electronic reason something will not work quite right?

Hi. Thanks for the clear instructions. However I just dropped my laptop and everything works fine except the screen is dark. I am writing this massage on an external monitor and everything is clear on the external monitor. So do you think it is a screen issue or cable. Mind you the screen has 2 small cracks due to the fall.
@PC_Monkey Жыл бұрын
Yes, if an external monitor works well, it means there is nothing wrong with the signal coming from the motherboard. Only an issue with either the LCD or the LCD Cable. Try unplugging the cable at both ends and plugging back in. Perhaps its just loose. If thats not it, one or both may be bad. Most likely the LCD if you just dropped it :(
@dharmajyoti27923 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thank You for the guidance. I have a lenovo IdeaPad Y700 It fell of little bit while taking it out of my cupboard. Not severely. It was working before this incident perfectly. Laptop works, it also works on another monitor. Screen looks perfect. So I think the problem is either with LCD cable connection in LCD or motherboard which probably became loose or something might have broken. Could you guide on checks ? And also give a general idea on expense ? 1. If it only disconnected 2. If there is something broken ( what could it be ? ) And how much it should cost? Is there any thing else that might be a reason eg some light bulb or anything? I may not do everything myself as I never opened a laptop before ( am nervous ) but I don't want to get cheated. So want to know a fair cost of repairs in either case. And exact steps so other portions remain untouched.
@PC_Monkey3 жыл бұрын
If its working with an external monitor, then its most likely an LCD or LCD Cable issue. I would try reseating the cable from both ends first. If that does not help, replace them one at a time depending on the cost and ease of replacing each. What size is your computer screen?

@PC_Monkey2 жыл бұрын
Without specialized equipment, its very difficult to tell if its an issue with the LCD Cable or the LCD itself. Most people would simply replace them one at a time to see which one it is. Many sellers on sites like Ebay, Amazon, etc offer free returns for any reason so you can always return the one that you dont need if you get both and only need one

Also when I connect to a tv or monitor it works perfectly do you think it might be the lcd cable too? My computer is a es1512 acer 🥺 little oldie

Yes, it could be the LCD or the LCD Cable. I would try unplugging the cable at both ends and then plugging it back in, making sure its not just loose. If that does not help, one of them may be bad. I would replace the LCD and the LCD Cable one at a time until I found the bad one.

Mostly black, but there are white strips across the screen (mostly at the top). I'm assuming that the cable needs to be replaced or maybe even just secured back in place 🤞 Any model specific tips and/or advice is needed & would be a life-saver. How much should a simple LCD replacement/loose connection cost to repair from a shop?
@PC_Monkey2 жыл бұрын
Depends where you live and what they have to do in order to fix it. Some shops will charge a diagnostic fee to find out what is wrong. At my shop on East coast America, I charge $45 for that. However, I wave that fee if they fix the computer with me. I would then charge $75 per repair plus parts.

Great video! I fix a lot of laptops with minor issues and or just need screens replaced. But i have an odd one that maybe you'd be able to shed some light on. I have a Toshia P55w-B5112, which the screen is black but the touchscreen still works when connected to an external monitor. I checked the RAM, and because this PC doesn't have a separate CMOS battery (it's built into the main battery) i disconnected the main battery and still no love. I checked the connection of the video cable to the motherboard which is good. I haven't checked the connection on the back of the monitor yet, because it looks like its going to be a bear, and before i move forward with that figured i would see what you thought. Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated...Thanks

Major question..LCD screen with right position of connection is not available at all. Luckily change of position is possible due to long cable. Will it make a difference to use "longer" cable.
@PC_Monkey Жыл бұрын
Not sure if I understand your comment correctly. Does the current LCD cable not reach the port? If not then yes, you would need a longer one as you most likely do not have the correct cable. If the current cable is the correct one and reaches the port but the LCD is working, then no. Getting a longer cable would not work better than a shorter cable just because its longer.

Hello, I have a HP 17e189nr with a broken screen, I'm going back to school so I need a laptop and can't afford a new one. The broken screen that came off is a V5. My question is, will a v3 replacement work on my laptop since my screen is V5? I'm not sure of the differences between V3 or V5. Also, when removing the LCD cable (first time in a laptop, I'm a desktop guy) I did not realize the tape was holding it on and was pulling pretty hard at the cable trying to get it to let go. Should I replace the cable as Well? The pins did not leave the harness I'm just afraid maybe I've shorted it out. Thanks for your time.

Hi My laptop model is Lenovo Ideapad 300. My laptop screen takes too long to turn on even if i restart it a couple of times from the power button. My laptop fell once a few months ago and now the left side panel where your charging socket is located has damaged. Sometimes the charging socket moves out of place so i have to press down the motherboard and plug my charger in. Also previously my laptop screen didn't used to turn on after i left it on sleep, i had to restart it to turn it on again. But now i have to wait a long while for the screen to start after i shut it down. Where do you think the problem might be?? Thanks a lot!!

I am intimidated by not knowing which orientation to apply pressure from the ribbon cable connector onto the fitting on the laptop screen itself. If I come at it the wrong way will I crush the pins? Top down? Slide it in/on? Otherwise outstanding job on this video.

Its hard to know what exact shape the bezel clips are before you get into it so its hard to put pressure in just the correct spot to avoid breaking at least some clips. I find it helpful to insert the pry tool directly next to the clip when ones location is identified, and push in and up. However, even with a lot of experience and doing it right, some clips may always break.
