PCSX2 vs. RPCS3: Jak and Daxter

In this video, I'm comparing Jak and Daxter running on PCSX2 vs. RPCS3.
PCSX2 is a PS2 emulator, Jak and Daxter originally released for PS2.
Later, in 2013 they released Jak and Daxter HD collection for PS3, so I can play it now on my PC using RPCS3, PS3 emulator.
Both emulator rendering resolution is set to 1920 x 1080!
RPCS3 is running a bit slower, it's a very complex CPU demanding emulator.
PCSX2 running fine on my config, but the emulator has problems with interlacing or motion blur because the PCSX2 was so much blurrier in motion.
I used the latest version of RPCS3 and PCSX2 on my PC:
i5 4570S
8GB ram

@@rage2387 Jak 2 has the most issues on ps3 just to give you a heads up. Also the CMOS battery issue with the ps3 if you download them.

I think it was an odd choice not releasing the PS3 remaster on the PS4 as it looks better than the original PS2 version. Tried RPCS3 on my pc with this game and it didn’t run very well which was expected but i was looking forward to play the game in 4K :/

dude try pcsx2 and upscale it to 4k it should look amazing and runs 10x better as rpcs3

Between the 2 I'd recommend playing the PS2 version, because the PS3 version has an intermittent bug when punching and with a couple of setting tweaks you can get the PS2 version to look just as crystal clear as the PS3 version at stock settings.

In the PS2 emulator, the X and Y axis are out of sync and need slight adjustment. Once that's done it makes it look gorgeous.

Yes, I know about the punch glitch. The best way to play Jak and Daxter, is with Open GOAL

Does the PS3 one also have a 60 FPS cap? If so then ill probably just play the PS2 version.

Is actually playable now? I haven't been following the emulation of Jak lately but there were quite a few glitches in both emulators. Hope it's up an running perfectly now

Id guess the bugs are from running pcsx2 in hardmore mode. Software mode is a lot more CPU-intensive, but corrects most of the artifacts.

The only problem with PS2 emulator and Jak games is big performance drops in some places in Heaven City (Jak 2). Other than that, the emulation is perfect.

Does anyone know where I can find that drum sample from 1:08 it plays a lot in forbidden jungle and in other areas of the game. I've been looking everywhere don't really know what its called but I'm pretty sure it sounds like a huge drum cymbal that rides out it's a very unique sound.

RPCS3 Wiki still lists Jak and Daxter as “Ingame”, meaning it can’t be completed.

You can pirate PS3 ISOs from a variety of different sites, none of which I feel at liberty to mention here for obvious reasons but if you search hard enough, you'll find them. Alternatively if you own the game and a jailbroken PS3 console then you can rip the game disc to the PS3's hard drive and use a cable to transfer the game ISO to the PC using FileZilla, however RPCS3 only reads games that are unpacked from their ISO files into their base folders.

The PS3 version uses uncompressed textures which makes the PS3 version of the game look better even if the internal resolution of both emulators are set to 1080p.

@@RegalPixelKing Another reason it looks blurrier in PCSX2 is because the PS2 version normally has an aggressive interlacing effect. The sequels ran in a sharp 480p progressive mode and didn't have this problem. There's a cheat code available to disable the interlacing in Jak 1, and it sharpens it up considerably. Though at this point, if you have a powerful enough PC, it might be as good if not better to just run the PS3 version (provided it's lacking any major bugs currently).

You can tweak PS2 emulator to almost look like PS3 tho

Ye. i came here to see what would be better to emulate the game on, but it seams OP is just running native resolutions. So as long as there are no major glitches the RPCS3 will always look better.
