I was charged 50K handling charges, in the guise of RTO charges, by the Kawasaki dealer when i purchased my superbike. When i found out after receiving the RTO invoice, i confronted them, but in vain. Taking legal action in India is a pain and would ruin the ownership experience.

Handling charges are ALWAYS up for discussion. No two ways. And if you feel unhappy, walk out. You can always head to another dealership.

Yeah, recently I had bought a KIA Sonet. So there were some issues regarding my RTO clearance. The form submitted by the dealers was kept "hold" by the RTO Officer and they (the dealers) need to pay the RTO and make a connection to make the clearance smoother from then onwards. They told us they have to pay a certain amount for each vehicle from then.

Went for a car purchase at a reknowned dealer. Mandatory Cross sell, mandatory handlinh charges, extra fuel charges, no discount on vehicle. Later on went to smaller dealer. No handling charges, no cross sell on Extended warranty etc

@@powerdriftofficial Yes, very recently! I am actually in market for my first big bike. N650 was priority 1 but it didn't put a smile on my face.. So I decided to try the Trident. That 3 cylinder symphony should do the trick, I hoped. Unfortunately hopes and dreams came crashing down when the dealer told me on road it'll cost, 8.37 Lacs (single color) in Gurgaon. For a bike that is 6.95 ex showroom? I saw the utterly confusing acronym filled break-up and sure enough, all Triumph bikes had 'Logistics' charges ranging from 17.7k to around 24k. I looked this up online and seems to be a peculiar issue with Triumph India dealers.

Should you opt for extended warranties while purchasing a car or bike? For new buyers, this would be a very important topic and help them make a prudent decision. 2. What is 'Return to Invoice' and 'Zero Depreciation' while buying insurance? How long are they valid for? 3. Does the 15 year limit on running your car and bike mean that it has to stay off the road after the period expires? Can renewal of fitness be an option? Keep up the good work PD! Lots of love!

It's called Ex-Showroom price for a reason. Not Ex Manufacturing plant price. Ex-showroom price includes everything from transferring it to showroom and keeping it there. Dealers get hefty margin on every vehicle they sell. Don't normalize this handling charge BS listening to arguments of transferring or cleaning the bike. If they put 5L or 10L petrol just pay the same amount for it.

I agree with all your points, however we have seen dealers who refused to sell the vehicle if you did not take insurance from them. This was after paying the booking amount, waiting for nearly 6 months and when car is ready for delivery, they insisted on taking their insurance. Since we cannot buy directly from the manufacturer, we had to take their insurance, as all other dealers for this new brand also were singing the same song. That was not the case for my Hyundai car, where i could buy my own preferred insurance and also had my NCB transferred from my earlier provider and got discount for that too.

I would suggest everyone to buy insurance from outside. Dealers have tie-ups and they charge much more than what's necessary for insurance. I saved 7k on my car insurance when I bought the car. With even better cover.

I fully endorse to Schumi's opinion. Another thing to remember is to avail the No claim Discounts if one has sold the vehicle prior to purchasing a new one provided it had a comprehensive insurance coverage . Owing to maintaining no claims status i gave been availing NCD for every new Car purchased

Lovely video. As usual, Shumi explains everything so well and makes it crystal clear for everyone! Thank you so much But, the sad reality is some companies do NOT let go of the handling charges. Insurance is still relatively more flexible, and almost 95% dealers allow external insurance. But companies like BMW motorrad, (who mostly have a single showroom for a state, unless it's a metropolitan like Mumbai) have made handling charges mandatory. And it's there all over the country. No matter what you do, one has to pay the handling charges if they wanna buy from that showroom. I guess that comes with badge value, that people take it as a premium that they have to pay to own a motorcycle of that brand.

I checked with BMWM and they said they don’t have a handling charge policy at all. By elimination then, it just be the dealer.

Actually i am from Nepal who loves bike cars and in recent years you and this channel 😊. I am sort of noob who havent ridden a bike properly havent own a bike but thats not a problem, i think i will learn with time. When i was kid in HistoryTv channel they used to broadcast the shows like leepu and pitbull , Bikers battle ground at phoenix, gas monkeys and bbc shows like top gear etc and i used to love these shows and i always seeked similar content about riding bikes tours engine its working and with the lots of searching and seeking i got to find this channel Powerdrift and some western channel like Fortnine and more importantly you shumi thanks to you i am learning about riding bikes skills small bits tips tricks, man honestly i love watching your video. I always dream of owning bikes not only riding them maintaing them having my garage taking care of those beautiful machine wanna connect with them not only from behind the handle bar but also from the garage work on them as well as on my skill. Honestly beside few channel like yours i havent find any other source where i can learn more and which will fulfill my hunger so i was hopping you could provide me suggestion where i seek for more. With reference to the insurance parts, if we avail it from outside and if we need to claim dealer are resistive and informing that we don't have tie up with X insurance hence you have to pay the full invoice value and can take delivery or else wait till the insurance pay the liability to dealer, the premium compairing with the dealer and outside it's a massive difference.

What I found works best is while booking I get these things confirmed, my own insurance no handling no accessories etc otherswise I tell them I'll go and book at another showroom The temptation of getting the booking amount and fear of losing it to another dealer is high at that moment hence they agree

Recently I tried purchasing a RTR 200 in Kolkata and I found that all the dealers in Kolkata are forcing the customers to buy insurance from them, to which I resisted strongly. Later I mailed to TVS, but still didn't get any proper feedback. In the end I chose to buy a Yamaha fz25, since they allowed me to buy my insurance from outside the dealer. I realised Yamaha has got a class of it's own ❤️ and does not promote cheap activities like TVS

I bought the Dominar 400 10 days ago( just before it was hiked up 😂) and haven't been charged handling charges... Although, one thing i was surprised is that they charged me 2500 for "extra fittings". While buying my Tiago in October 2019, I was against paying any sort of handling charges and while all the dealership stated that they won't sell the car without such charges, I emailed my concern to the customer care. Next day I got a call back from a very senior representative of Tata motors who told me that handling charges is completely legal and also explained me the ridiculous reasons for charging them. I even said that there are numerous court judgements against this but he denied saying that it is vetted by automobile manufacturers association. Anyways, I negotiated on the On road price to my satisfaction however, this is a money minting process being followed by all the dealerships.

If you are buying car or bike through emi, the dealer are forced to do insurance with their packed company, otherwise if you are buying cash, no such issues arise

Really comes down to good old demand supply and its impact on your negotiations. If there is a waiting list for the vehicle then they might just refuse the reduction for handling (or even getting own insurance). Or if there is a discount on the price, they may alter the offered discount depending on what you try to negotiate on insurance / handling. At its worst extreme, dealers will also try to bundle forced accessories if the demand supply is excessively skewed. Of course for a new vehicle with zero discounts albeit no waiting either, the insurance is something you should be able to negotiate, possibly even some level of handling charges.

Good video....But once you buy a vehicle from dealer you are also expected to get your first few free servicings done from that dealer... What if some is not from techical background and dealers end up cheating you or harrasing you over servicing costs or they might mislead you into believing that certain parts of your vehicle are faulty and now during the servicing those need to be changed and charges you extra

My experience is that the laws only exist in papers and cost is associated whenever you choose to demand protection under the law. I visited multiple dealers from Honda, Bajaj to Yamaha and all are demanding around 4k without bill. The only option left is to not to purchase a motorcycle since all 6 dealers have refused to negotiate on this agenda.

Once again awesome content by Shumi + PD. Recently I was arguing with triumph Bangalore for putting 17k as warehouse charges - actually I haven’t seen other showroom charges and I dint see this on my invoice with Kawasaki. Dropped to buy Triumph now as they can’t charge something additional which are not charged by any other brand. I hope others also push back on this charge. Good educational content as always!

even kawasaki bangalore charges it...its hidden in registration charges...some openly agree it but few hide it registration charges....check vahaan website for acutall registration cost in bangalore...only honda does nt charge handling charges in bangalore

Can you guys create a video on the how easy or difficult it is to keep a vehicle out of its home registered state. And the laws around them which the other state cops can hold against you.
