The new Mercedes system is laggy too, so it's not exclusive to this brand. Also, who cares. Sure, it should be faster, but at the end of the day, you're not buying a car for the infotainment, and if you are, then I have a bridge to sell you.
@HughesyTech
@HughesyTech 4 жыл бұрын
@@AS-er4ud yes not buying it solely for infotainment but it should be faster. If one can scroll faster through music folders using a scroll knob on a mp3 CD deck than a modern car, that's problematic haha

Wow, I knew it would be slower than the F-Pace SVR, but that’s significantly slower than your test of the F-Pace at 4.37 to 60 and 14.25 to 200. Does the Velar feel a lot slower?
@PDriveTV
@PDriveTV 4 жыл бұрын
Of course not. It's still a beast :) 0.3 seconds is about the same as a blink!
@CapnT87
@CapnT87 4 жыл бұрын
PDriveTV Yea the 0-60 launches from all these cars between 4-4.5 all feel relatively the same but the 0-200 really is what you feel in your gut. My S5 was 15.0, my F-Pace is 14.3 and my C63S is at 12.0. Each feels crazy faster than the next so the Velar at 15+ to 200 seems like I’d be disappointed if I traded in my SVR for it. Hmmm....

I am in the camp that JLR needs to either offer a fire breathing version of their new 3.0L I-6 that can put out over 500HP to replace the SCV8 or they need to try and license the Mercedes/AMG 4.0TT V8 OR develop their own new in-house “Ingenium” 4.0L turbocharged V8. The SCV8 is decent, but it can’t match the Germans’ turbo V8s for torque or downright brutality. A comparable GLE63 S will leave this in the dust. Even the new GLE580 would smoke this and it’s not even an AMG. I think JLR should go the route of the high performance I-6 as it’s more closely related to their history of I-6 and V12 engines and will likely sell in larger numbers in countries where engine size determines taxes. It would also likely be more efficient than a V8.
@PDriveTV
@PDriveTV 4 жыл бұрын
It's been widely reported JLR will soon adopt BMW twin-turbo V8 engines. Example: performancedrive.com.au/jaguar-land-rover-adopt-bmw-v8-engines-report-2522/
@CFG39
@CFG39 4 жыл бұрын
PDriveTV yes, but then there have been reports that the BMW engine deal isn’t happening. I’d rather see them partner with Daimler. I dislike BMW’s 4.4L TTV8 in terms of its sound. Every car that has that engine sounds like a weird mix of a vacuum cleaner, I4 and V6. It pales in comparison to the noise JLR’s 5.0L V8 makes or the angry snarl Mercedes’ 4.0L V8 is known for. Daimler already sells their engines to Aston Martin, and with that partnership seeming to fade out as Aston develops their own V6 engine, Jaguar Land Rover could be a good partner to help subsidize development costs. For most of JLR’s products, a high output version of their new I-6 would provide adequate power. If BMW can extract well over 500HP from their equally sized I-6, I’d think JLR could do the same thing. With the hybrid assistance, pushing the power output close to 600HP would be within arm’s reach. That would surpass the amount of power available from any current JLR product and just about equal what BMW’s 4.4TT V8 produces in its highest power applications.

JLR really needs to steal whoever BMW has tune their transmissions. This should be their highest performance Land Rover vehicle, but the gear changes are not nearly as quick as they would be in any BMW, Mercedes or Audi with either the same ZF 8HP transmission, Mercedes’ in-house 9G-Tronic, or VW Group’s various DCTs (DSG/STronic/PDK). BMW is able to make this exact same transmission shift nearly as quickly as a dual clutch transmission, as is Audi. Audi even uses this in their S4/5 instead of a dual clutch transmission. JLR’s vehicles all shift as quickly as your average automatic gearbox found in any mainstream product. In my Discovery 4 with the Supercharged V6 and 8HP, my least favorite part of the car is how slowly it shifts compared to other vehicles with the same transmission. BMW’s shift logic is phenomenal. JLR’s isn’t, at least not in any of their vehicles I’ve driven and I’ve driven them all.
@timse-lw2bt
@timse-lw2bt 4 жыл бұрын
F C you are Right, BUT in the Performance Models they dont want it tot Shift as quickly as a BMW because it Takes away the Emotions. If you Drive the RRVSVA you know what i mean
@CFG39
@CFG39 4 жыл бұрын
tim se1604 how does shifting fast take away emotion? If anything shifting quickly in a performance car adds to the excitement and pleasure of driving. When you’re equipping your cars with what’s regarded as the best modern torque converter automatic transmission ever made, there’s no reason to let everyone down with sluggish tuning and poor shift logic. In my Discovery 4 with the 3.0L Supercharged V6 the transmission holds gears too long before upshifting in normal acceleration so you hear the engine a lot more than you should and it definitely makes it feel slower because it’s making so much noise with little forward progress. Jaguar Land Rover’s transmission tuning seems to be 10-years behind everyone else. I’ve driven everything from the F-Pace, XE, XF, Discovery 4/5, RRS, RR, Velar, etc. None of those cars had the seamless and rapid shifts that other automakers have been able to get using the same transmission. Every BMW I’ve driven with the 8HP (even base models of the 3-series, X3, 2-series) shifts rapidly and smoothly with no delay. Think how much quicker the car would accelerate too if they improved the shift speed.
@timse-lw2bt
@timse-lw2bt 4 жыл бұрын
F C But your Discovery 4 sadly isn’t a performance car, and that why I said your are right that for example your discovery should shift way faster but I had the X5 M for test drive and for me it was so perfect that it wasn’t fun tu drive it. You just push the accelerator and it goes but you don’t feel as much as in the Velar SVA, trust me. Of course the ZF in this car cost time but it is good how it is now. However that’s my opinion
@CFG39
@CFG39 4 жыл бұрын
tim se1604 I know my D4 isn’t a performance car. That doesn’t mean the transmission tuning has to be slow and jerky. If you’re using paddle shifters (which my D4 has) or are in sport mode in any ZF 8HP equipped vehicle, the transmission should execute perfectly quick shifts. When you pull the paddle shifter in a BMW or Audi the shifts happen instantly. In a JLR product, even the SVA, there’s a delay. JLR also seemingly is still using the first generation 8HP instead of the 2nd or 3rd generation. The later generations are more efficient, have larger ratio spread, internal friction reduction, allow coasting for fuel efficiency gains, better auto stop/start response, improve reliability, and they can perform gear changes more quickly and also skip gears when manually downshifting (for example, 8-6, 6-4, 4-2), etc.
