I chose to join at 77 years of age. The experience taught me that people are pretty much the same the world over. You people who keep talking about money must be poor Republicans. It kept a roof over my head and food in my mouth for two years and three months, as well as giving me a chance to share my culture with them, and I learned a hell of a lot from the people I lived with. I'm totally ashamed of the comments by many of you. You speak out of ignorance.

Glad ur back! I bet it was exciting scary and educational all-in-one! I'm sure that's just the tip of the iceburg too.

Hey I am glad to be alive. Because it won't last forever. Thoughts and dreams will. Keep on doing what fills your heart. The rest will fall in place.

wanted you and the administration to know that the Peace corps experience I had in Brasil 1966-68 is still considered the best two years of my life. I heartily encourage everybody to experience the joy and rewards of learning another culture, sharing and helping. In the end it gives you a greater appreciation of what it means to be an American!

Yea, join the peace corps now and head over to brazil and see what that culture is all about. You might have a 20% chance of coming back.

I've been to Brazil about 10 times in the last few years, including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. It is the most beautiful country I have ever been to, along with having the funnest and most beautiful people in the world.

Holy moly, can't believe the negative replies to your comment. Ignore them. :) I was a PCV in Paraguay in the 90s and I, too, refer to it as the best two years of my life.

There are two kinds of Peace Corps volunteers: Romantics who often believe they are going to help those less fortunate, and be rewarded for their selflessness with praise at home and abroad; and the more practical Traveler who goes to learn something from another culture. The former crash and burn in their own paternalism, and sometimes return to the USA early. The latter learn a few things and come home to the USA two and sometimes three years later and teach other Americans what they learned. Peace Corps Kenya 1979-81

I wish they disabled comments for this video, they are quite offense for those of us that have actually served as Peace Corps Volunteers and know what it is truly like.

I have an idea: why doesn't President Obama become a Peace Corps volunteer when he becomes an 'ex-President?' Peace Corps could then reduce their 'marketing' budget to US$0.00 forever, I am certain.
@edenreynolds61902 жыл бұрын
He's not allowed because it would come off as espionage or regime change. Same reason why peace corps volunteers cannot work in the CIA.

Where are the other countries sending aid to help the poor and homeless in the US? So tired of hearing our own citizens mantra about how bad this country is, that's part of why it has declined recently. The people.
