Katatonia have revealed the first full track, entitled 'Old Heart Falls' from their highly anticipated new album - The Fall of Hearts.
Buy the album: www.peaceville....
On the release of the first new song Jonas Renkse comments “A song with lush textures, distinct dynamics and a memorable chorus are the trademarks to some of the most beloved Katatonia songs. 'Old Heart Falls' substantiates all of those attributes, but is not by any means defining the album as a whole. There is more to come..."
About the lyric video Anders Nyström adds "Knowing we didn’t want another ”font circus” with all these words and letters competing in olympic acrobatics, we decided to make it extremely simple but also very real... 30 years ago when we were active in the underground tape-trading scene, there were no computers around, so we had to write all our letters by hand, or when feeling extra motivated, we used a typewriter. I clearly remember writing letters on a typewriter with a ribbon directly to paper created a special feeling that no computer would ever emulate. So determined to bring back this feeling for a brief couple of minutes, we passed on our idea to our talented friend Lasse Hoile, who made sure this beautiful Royal typewriter served a final purpose before crawling all the way back to the start, returning to dust..."
The Fall Of Hearts was released on the following formats - Deluxe 12” hardbook, 2 Disc CD & DVD Mediabook, CD
2LP , Digital download with “Old Heart Falls” available as instant download from Friday 1st April.

The official follow-up to 2012’s acclaimed Dead End Kings was recorded at Stockholm’s Studio Gröndahl & Tri-lamb Studio, and was self-produced by Anders Nyström & Jonas Renkse. Mixing and mastering duties were carried out by Jens Bogren (Opeth, Ihsahn, Devin Townsend) at Fascination Street Studios, with Karl Daniel Lidén (Switchblade, The Ocean, Greenleaf) brought in as engineer.
The dramatic yet desolate artwork was created by long time Katatonia designer and illustrator Travis Smith.
Katatonia have spent the past four years since the release of Dead End Kings touring the world, as well as expanding their fanbase through two special albums on Kscope, the sister label of Peaceville. 2013 saw the release of Dethroned & Uncrowned which exploded the core of the songs on Dead End Kings creating new moods and textures. In 2015, they released the live acoustic album and concert film, Sanctitude. Both releases illustrate the band’s journey toward this, their current more progressive sound.
The Fall of Hearts is the first record to feature new drummer Daniel ’Mojjo’ Moilanen and with the addition of their recently recruited guitarist Roger Öjersson (Tiamat), who came in just in time to sprinkle some blistering solos on the album, Katatonia will continue to push their musical boundaries beyond their roots in the metal scene while drawing in new fans from across the musical spectrum like peers such as Opeth and Anathema have also done, cementing Katatonia’s place as one of the most revered and cherished of all bands in the world of modern heavy music.
Katatonia have confirmed the following festival appearances for 2016:
29/04/16 - Norway, Kopervik - Karmoygeddon Festival
19/06/16 - France, Clisson - Hellfest
03/07/16 - Finland, Helsinki - Tuska Festival
9-10/07/16 - Belgium, Bouckenborgh - Anterwerp Metal Festival
29/07/16 - Romania, Sibiu, ARTmania Festival
05/08/16 - Portugal, Corroios - Vagos Open Air Festival
17-20/08/2016 - Germany, Dinkelsbühl - Summer Breeze Festival
4/09/16 - Brazil, São Paulo - Overload Music Fest
22/09/16 - Bulgaria, Polvdiv, Roman Theatre
01/10/16 - The Netherlands, Tilburg, Epic Metal Fest
More dates to be announced soon

The weighted clouds coming by Has me looking Right here under the sky And I left my home Passed the evening fires In the blink of an eye I had closed the door behind me The vapour of old love Will transfigure through a veil of clarity I sense my grave way below the mire Sorrow will find you Its voice has given way to mine Heart pumps death into our heredity Who wants to come with me For every dream that is left behind me I take a bow With every war that will rage inside me I hear the sound Of another day in this vanishing life Returned to dust And every chance I've pushed away Into the night Time won't let go It's got you in debt now And it's got me crawling All the way back to the start I swear that I saw you there Your hands were reaching out for mine And sorrow will find you For every dream that is left behind me I take a bow With every war that will rage inside me I hear the sound Of another day in this vanishing life Returned to dust And every chance I've pushed away Into the night I sense my grave way below the mire

I call these guys the Pink Floyd of Metal. I just love that you can't place them into some neat and tidy genre. They have a unique sound, and when people ask me who they sound like, I have hard time describing their sound - which is pretty incredible when you think about all the bands that all sound so similar these days. To me, it's the highest compliment you can give a band. I can't wait for this album.

Like a fine wine. Another band that also shares a similar path of change - Anathema, who alo were a Doom Metal band like Katatonia for their first few albums and also like Kataonia have slowly but surely moved towards softer, clean vocals, melancholic form of Prog. Rock/Metal. IMHO, both bands are better because of it. Opeth being one of my all-time favorite bands changing has taken time and as much as I respect and enjoy their last 3-4 albums, I'll always prefer Orchid to Ghost Reveries/Watershed over the majority of their new music.

Lyrics: The weighted clouds coming by Has me looking Right here under the sky And I left my home Passed the evening fires In the blink of an eye I had closed the door behind me The vapour of old love Will transfigure through a veil of clarity I sense my grave way below the mire Sorrow will find you Its voice has given way to mine Heart pumps death into our heredity Who wants to come with me For every dream that is left behind me I take a bow For every war that will rage inside me I hear the sound Of another day in this vanishing life Returned to dust And every chance I've pushed away into the night Time won't let go It's got you in debt now And it's got me crawling all the way back to the start I swear that I saw you there Your hands were reaching out for mine Sorrow will find you For every dream that is left behind me I take a bow For every war that will rage inside me I hear the sound Of another day in this vanishing life Returned to dust And every chance I've pushed away into the night I sense my grave way below the mire

I don't care what anyone says, this is Katatonia's best album since Brave Murder Day. I hope they keep it up and I love the Swedish ballad "Vakaren" on the deluxe edition I believe it was.

+St1ff Jonas and Anders write the percussions. Daniel didn't really have much input besides suggestions with timing, and maybe some fills. Partly why the song writing sounds so unified at times. www.thecontrapuntist.com/2010/09/27/katatonias-drummer-daniel-liljekvist-discusses-his-musical-influences-life-on-tour-and-his-favorite-swedish-filmmaker/

I can't believe people bashing this for "sounding too familiar" or "not the same anymore". This is the Katatonia that has always been and that I love, and if you were any kind of fans you'd know these kind of lush, mellow and beautiful songs are only a part of the record to bring the mood and enhance the experience. This album will be yet another masterpiece.

+Jonatan Ryrå Pay no mind. They just have sand in their crusty vaginas. Katatonia has been really good at expanding their soundscapes into new territory while staying true to their brand of melancholy, dark, ambient rock/metal.
