Peacock Mantis Shrimp out for a swim (unusual behaviour)

Well today after giving his tank a good blast with a turkey baster to kick up any settled sediment I caught my mantis shrimp Bruce doing something I've rarely seen him do and that is coming out for an extended swim round his aquarium. So I grabbed my camera and caught as much as I could. I particularly love when he pops his head out to see whats going on above the surface!

Thanks a lot! He is quite an unusual color, most others I've seen have either a greener or browner shell.

I've still never really figured it out and he has never done it again but he is now in a new bigger tank (see my new vids 😁) so he's got a bit more space.

Interesting you say that, as Bruce is camera shy would you be interested in a video going through my setup showing what equipment I run and why and maybe some future plans for the tank? One of the videos I am thinking about.

I've never seen another one quite like him their shells are normally far more green or brown. Bruce is a pretty boy!

After about a month or so of ownership my peacock is starting to do this sometime definitely not the most graceful swimmer tho lol she has yet to perfect the landing portion haha

What lighting settings do you use?

That was in his old tank, it was an AI prime which I normally set to 'All On' when I was filming.

Cheers. Day to day is your lightning dimmed? Does he prefer blue or whiter lighting? Thanks

I run him under full reef lighting as I am planning to start stocking corals in his tank soon. There is anecdotal evidence that they do not do well under bright lights and that it can promote shell rot however this condition is not well understood and I have never seen any evidence of this in Bruce. I have always made sure however that Bruce can retreat into total darkness in his lair if he wants to which I believe helps.
