If you saw her in the grocery store, library or anywhere, she often was the one to strike up the conversation 😃 Always complimenting everyone, engaging with the children. She’s dearly missed, world wide! She did the coolest thing for that lil AZ town, left an arts foundation that benefits everyone. Even purchased a portable stage the is still in use, all these years later. Feel very fortunate to have benefited by her presence!!!

Thank you for highlighting the life of Mrs. Pearl Bailey. I really enjoyed all of the old unseen pictures of captions of her in her art form. Beautifully done. I was blessed to see her in 1971, in "Hello Dolly," When my mother took me to see her. They both shared the same birthday, so of course, she was in love with Mrs. Bailey. My mother was so much like Mrs. Bailey.. The same characteristic of a hard working, determined lady that took NO MESS from anyone. But, Always a lady. I still remember that great performance as if it were yesterday. Again, Thank You for those great memories of Mrs. Pearl Bailey, Mr. Nat King Cole, Count Bassie, and Diana Shore, whom really was black. It was discussed in articles that her father was probably White, just as Carol Channie? All were great actors, singers and actresses. I miss all of their talents.

Pearl Bailey was married to the white and Jewish big band drummer Louie Bellson. She started out as a dancer and singer and being married to Mr. Bellson gave her access to a better strata and more opportunities in the movies, Broadway and of course the music business. No one wanted to leave. What it was like for Ms. Bailey under the lights, I cannot imagine. She handled the broiling conditions like a true pro, with charm and humor. Queen Latifah also has a beautiful voice. I love when she does jazz. Rap is fine but I'd love to hear more jazz from her.

She was an Aries. Multi- talented. Beautiful, strong black woman with the guts to live her truth. To live and love with great passion. An Aries trait though is to not take care of their hearts. So many of them have this weakness. But as any bright light, it can't shine forever. At least was have her on film. Thank you for sharing. ❤️

Thank you for the positive write-up on Pearl. I grew up in the home where "that man" shot at her. Pearl sold the house to my folks - her signature is on the deed. The hole was still in the wall in the master bedroom. Channing Street in the Brentwood section of Washington DC. Belson did remarry - another black woman. There is lots more I could tell you but not in an open forum. Really appreciate the positive write-up/video. Queen Latifa is the only one to play Pearl. If you saw her in Chicago -- WOW!! Rob Marshall who directed Latifah in Chicago said in an interview that Latifah is our Pearl Bailey.

I love Pearl Bailey so much. Thank you for highlighting her greatness in this terrific video. I learned so many facts about her that I didn’t know before. I knew that she married a Caucasian man, but didn’t know that they were united for so many years. A breakdown of Lola Folana’s life/career would be marvelous, she is another underrated Black American queen.

Ms. Bailey, I say respectfully, having been a peer of my parents, was an underrated, GOD giffted, talented, gorgeous, earthy actress!!!!!! Ms. Pearl was a witty, well balanced, spirited, jovial, sassy soul!!!! Ms. Bailey was everyone's favorite entertainer, my parents, their friends, everyone during that era, truly adored Ms. Baily, she was in a class of her own!!!!
