This actually kinda sucked. His best work is on the I'm b side you album, which was swept under the rug as all b sides. He's an alright guitarist, really good for chili peppers. Don't really understand why he's in PJ unless they're just grasping at straws trying to find a way to stay relevant with a younger crowd. If he's on the next PJ album, I wouldn't be surprised if you hear a lot of digital music and soundscapes played by Josh.

I saw Josh with RHCP in Budapest a coupe of years ago on their Getaway tour. He did not feel an "odd fit"' at all, especially on the "Getaway" songs he co-wrote. But then, he did not try to pretend to be Frusciante: he made the classics of the Frusciante era his own, which may have felt "odd" to many, but I actually loved his versions of the songs. Last year he returned with PJ, joining in for Keep on Rockin' at the Free World, but had no solo. He's underrated.

Josh got a bad rep at his start of joining rhcp, anyone would replacing John. I didn't like it either I was just a kid back then, but the more I hear him play and when I learned that he was primarily a drummer/keyboardist before joining the chili's I was blown away. Still wishing for that 3rd album they stopped recording with him :(

There is no one on Earth harder to follow that Frusciante... Josh did a fucking great job all things considered.
@bradleylovej2 жыл бұрын
@@charwest5892 This is true. I also really, really think Josh's style did not fit the Chili Peppers. They are my pet band, and as I age I've come to realize that they do really well when they aren't rocking too hard and the guitar parts aren't too complicated. Once you get into complicated, loud, hard rock and roll, they are no longer in their comfort zone (except Chad). They have some songs that are 'hard,' but mostly they are a melodic band with only pieces of their songs being hard. Frusciante is a master at making smooth riffs but knowing exactly when to pick his spots to go hard. Josh feels a lot less restrained. I mean, the Chilis started out as a funk band and morphed into a true alt rock band. They're so good with Frusciante bc he's melodic and knows when to simplify things. Listening to Josh's songs with RHCP he comes up with these amazing rock riffs and it's like the rest of the band doesn't quite match that energy. I finally get what Flea was saying when we said it was effortless with John. They're all on the same alt rock wavelength.

@lexmachina89612 жыл бұрын
In the great scheme? Maybe. But the guy gets to play with the Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam and the solo project of Vedder. If I was that talented and had to choose between being popular during a guitar hero era or popular enough to get to play with these bands, it's a no brainer, Especially since he has been a fan of those bands since day one. That's a dream that came true and I guess he feels blessed. He told in an interview that Vedder called him to get on board just 8 days after he has been fired by the Peppers. If that's not the most awesome and graceful "failure" ever, I don't know what is.
