It is clear to me that anyone who buys into this sort of ideology has a severe lack of love in their life. Pearl was legitimately confused that Micheal wouldn't want to accuse his wife of being a whore by getting a paternity test. You don't marry "women" or "men." You marry a particular person whom you've gotten to know and love. My husband isn't just a man who is x% likely to commit adultery. He's my husband, who I know will not cheat on me. I'm not just a woman who is x% likely to get a divorce. I'm his wife, whom he knows will not divorce him. I love him, and I trust him. He loves me, and he trusts me.

A newsflash to Pearl: the Church didn't elevate Mother Mary to the high position she's in: God did! God the Father chose Mary to bear His son Jesus. The highest honour any human being could ever have! We're just giving Mary the honour she's due :) “My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord; My spirit rejoices in God my savior. For he has looked upon his handmaid's lowliness; behold, from now on will all ages call me blessed. The Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name" - Mother Mary (Luke 1:46-55)

To me I think to say that Mary's high elevation because she birthed Jesus is a bit stupid because I don't consider that to be the highest honor or greatest sacrifice. Joseph was willing to stay with Mary through the pregnancy and raise a child that was not biologically his along with help provide the necessary infrastructure to allow that pregnancy to even be viable. Joseph should if anything be held to a much greater honor than Mary

I hate the "Men are predisposed to cheat". Even if that's true, so what? I am predisposed to eat all the cheap food i want, but i don't do that, because i know it would harm me. I am not roman catholic, but her assumption that the church elevated Mary really has zero correlation with the way women are viewed today. Christianity has always had a distinctly elevated view on the value of women because of what we are taught of their value. Christians have an elevated view of Mary because she was the mother of God. There is no link between modern the feminist movement and the high Christian view of women or Mary. Quite the opposite in fact, as modern feminists generally are anti-christian. They have no moral reason for elevating women.

Pearl sees repentant sinners and resents them for having favor with God, like the son who resented his prodigal brother for getting so much attention from their father. She thinks she is better than other women and gets upset when they are validated when she feels so bad about not receiving the same validation. Her also being single probably doesn't help. As much as she likes to pretend she isn't prescribing advice, all you have to do is take a look at comments from her followers to see the toxic resentment she's willingly stirring for views. The thing about that is....sex wars are a lose-lose across the board. One over-reaction inevitably leads to another. It doesn't save marriage or incentivize more people to get married; it only divides the sexes further.

I think I see where the Church is going with that idea. A pre-nuptial agreement is the implication that the two spouses are not really ready to commit fully to one another and have an “escape plan” ready when the marriage contract is broken. Sort of a backwards thought of people marrying each other only for the material gains they could get from the other instead of genuinely desiring the good of their spouse. I could see some situations where an agreement is made not to share custody of something, like maybe land or interest in something reserved only for certain family members or maybe one party has some kind of major debt in an account and needs to keep things separate, but that I could see being a big case-by-case basis and probably done under the couple’s spiritual director or someone like that.

I wonder sometimes if the nature of her show hasn't somewhat tainted Pearl. She's been doing that podcast for quite a while and I think intentionally or unintentionally she has spoken to generally the worst of the worst when it comes to the female species. Time and time again she has been surrounded by the self-centered and egotistical examples of femininity. I'm afraid that exposure may have biased her and she needs to probably take a step back and see the good in not only other women but see the good in herself. I'm a 40-some year old man who's married and has a daughter, and though the ladies in my life can be exasperating at times, I have no doubt they're good people. My daughter is amazing! As I've grown older I think I was born to be the father of a daughter as opposed to a son. I think there are definite gifts that women bring to the world, The old adage about a father building a house but a mother building a home is true. And that goes beyond so much more than just washing dishes and folding clothes. My mother worked most of her adult life but she was definitely a homemaker. She had a capacity to make the building that we all lived in seem welcoming.

I don't think you need to be opposed to feminism to affirm that men are better at picking up heavy things (and putting them down). That is perhaps the most trivial skill that men have, being gifted with stronger upper bodies than women. It attaches no additional moral worth to men. What I think is often missed is that women operate on a different metric of success from men. Asking: what do women do better? assumes that women are competing with men in the same metric. I find women’s skill is a multiplier not as much of a stand alone builder. We obviously physically multiply by being able to bring children into the world but also a good woman makes her family, home, husband and community flourish, multiplying the wellbeing, comfort, support and joy of those around them. That’s hard to quantify in monetary terms which is usually what we mean by success.

Thank you for another amazing video Trent! When you address this sort of content and offer an opposing Catholic perspective, I am filled with a renewed joy in my faith. Catholicism offers a home to all women, from any walk of life, with any disposition. For this I am immeasurably grateful.

I think there is a lot of anti-woman rhetoric all over the internet.
@racheljames7

It's nothing compared to anti male rhetoric. We literally have magazine covers with little boys on them with headlines like, "how do we stop him from becoming a monster?" Meaning he's going to be a rapist just because he's a male. And this was created by women, so, as a woman myself, I can see why this ended up happening.

Same type of thing of trans activists lecturing us about gender being a "social contruct" unrelated to sex, yet many need sex change and hrt to "affirm" it. These people don't run on logic, they run on deception and power. The serpent in paradise didn't present logic to Eve at all to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, yet played on her desires from her free will.

Trent if there is one thing I think you should do on KZbin is make a series defending each deuterocanonical books of the old Testament. Sometimes protestants say that the book of Judith is not historical, so I would like to know how to defend them. I think you would be the first channel to go in-depth in those books. It would also be a good defense of the Catholic cannon. Thanks for the good work. Have a nice day.

10:40 "80% of women gain 20 lbs in the 1st 5 years of marriage?" I strongly doubt that - what is her source? I am one of 5 girls, all of us married for longer than 5 years and none of us gained 20 lbs in the 1st 5 years of marriage. Is she including the 20lbs of pregnancy weight women have to put on for healthy babies - weight those of us who had babies also lost all or most of, afterwards?
@symptomofsouls
@symptomofsouls Ай бұрын
I'm not sure if this proves anything, but nearly all of my friend's mothers are obese. They were all healthy when they got married. They just stopped taking care of themselves. I think both the husband and the wife owe it to each other to remain attractive to each other in marriage, you aren't going to look like a supermodel in your 40s-50s but at least make an effort to stay in shape.
@AliceinJapanaland
@AliceinJapanaland Ай бұрын
@symptomofsouls it may have taken them much longer than 5 years to become obese. If your friends are teenagers, their moms are likely to be menopausal or premenopausal, which will inevitably lead to weight gain no matter how they diet or exercise, without hormone treatment. That said, I agree with you! I also think husbands and wives owe it to each other to try within reason to stay attractive for one another. But Pearl doesn't. She doesn't remark on how the majority of men are also overweight or obese, so she apparently thinks this is something only wives owe their husbands. Also, most women have a naturally high drive to stay as attractive as possible. That's why expensive skincare products, makeup, and cosmetic procedures are all marketed heavily towards women. So if a woman "let's herself go" in a marriage, there is often a very legitimate reason. Usually, it's as simple as not having time to put into her looks anymore as she is often expected to work outside the home, but also be the main (or only!!) childcare provider at home as well as the primary (or only!!) cook and cleaner. The reality is that if it's important to her husband that she maintain her good looks, he needs to share some of the burden at home so she has time to workout, brain bandwidth to think about healthy food choices, and so she doesn't feel too exhausted and depleted all the time. I know this because my husband does help out at home even though I'm a stay at home mom. And his help allows me to stay fit even with a toddler during another pregnancy. I also know from looking around and hearing from friends and sisters about their own marriages, that my husband is incredibly rare in this way. All of them are married to men who expect their wives to do the cooking, cleaning, majority of the childcare, and almost all of them to hold a full-time job. Only 1 of them is a stay at home mom, and she is expected to do all housework, cooking, and childcare without help. If she sometimes asks for help, her husband gets annoyed with her. In the meantime, he comes home from a 9-5 and spends the rest of his day and his weekends relaxing or doing whatever he wants. Her days are more like a 6am - 8pm situation, especially with 2 young kids at home. They recently divorced in no small part because of his refusal to do anything as the husband and father except for provide financially.
