6505 plus (2008 USA made). 3rd year of ownership and I'm still finding new ways to tweak. Peavey made this thing to really do it all. You can get a very shimmering clean tone for a Strat, slightly overdriven channel 1 for classic rock, blues and such and both channels are tremendously tweakable. Pair it with a v30 Mesa cab and you have the last high gain amp you'll really ever need

Hey Rob, As my idea of an SG double cutaway Guitar found so much resonance I think it has the potency to make it into a stable of Chapman´guitars catalog. if my idea makes it into a voting here a some suggestions for debate and things the guitar should definetely be: -The guitar should definetely be a simple bare bone, affordable Rock machine and only have 1 pickup for simplicity, tone(as PhilX says) and price. The headstock should also be kept in an ML2 design spec. For debate there would be: - neck through design out of mahagony, maple or ash -ash, maple, or magagony wings -recessed bolt on neck out of maple or magagony -Mahagony, Maple or Ash body -Natural or stain finish -Baked maple or Rosewood fingerboard -TUSQ or titanium Nut -Stopbar or Wraparound tailpiece -Hardware material chrome or titanium -P-90 or Humbucker (or a P90 in Humbucker form so people could choose between 2 Types of Pickups) - which P90:-Seymour duncan Hot P90 -Gibson P90 -or what do you suggest? -which Humbucker: -Seymour Duncan Slash Signature -Chapman Passive Agressive -Or what do you suggest? -Normal or Offset double cutaway design I would be really cool if my idea would make it to a vote.

I love Peavey equipment. Their amps can't be beat by anyone. When I grew up all the big loud bands had walls of Peaveys instead of Marshalls. I use a Peavey that I bought used and had it retubed and I couldn't get any amp at any price to sound better. I also play their older American made guitars.

Listen to VH's Balance album and that is what the 5150 was made for, Ted Nugent has used them forever, and before his Engls, Steve Morse was a 5150 player for years, Satch has had and used one occasionally for over 20 years as well.

On the combo the cab is enclosed with the head on top. I cut mine off right above the cab, added a bottom piece of wood for the bottom of the head. Then you have a nice 60 watt 6505+ head that you can have and a separate speaker cab. Just a quick mod you can do for a couple hours of time at most.

Probably the best tones in a video from Rob Chapman & Andertons. Peavey 5150/6505 series are so good at giving you a big raw tone with ease. If i'm not mistaken, it appears Peavey has just recently stopped making the American made 2x12 version, which is ultimately a bummer because it was a nice middle-ground between the 6505 head and 6505+ head. However, I can see why with the production of the minihead version and 1x12 combo that they've decided to phase it out. Not to mention, the 2x12 combo version is massive and extremely difficult to lug around.

Ive has this amp for 10 years. The stock jj tubes were too muddy for me it could have been because the amp was 5 years old when I got it so maybe they were just worn out. I put in Mesa power tubes and did the bias mod so I could run the tubes a little hotter. I used a mixture of Mesa and groovie tubes for the pre amp. I know they make different tubes from different countries not sure which ones I used but I know I went with whatever ones were more expensive. I have never liked super clean cleans on any amp and I’m just not a clean type of player. What I do like is using a crunch channel with a little gain for cleans to get that big thick clean tone with a little gain and this amp has it, it’s also not chimey and not gritty it’s a smooth thick sound which is what I love. It reminds me of the clean tones on blink 182’s album enema of the state specifically the song going away to college. For the settings I use on the crunch channel for cleans you can’t crank the volume a lot or it will get get chimey but you don’t need to There’s a good amount of head room for that. The high gain channel is great and using the tubes I did brightened up the tones a bit which I needed because I was playing in a pop punk band. One thing that does kinda suck is the amp needs to be cranked up not super loud but fairly loud to get the tone out of it that I liked, maybe it’s because I used a little less gain than most people do with this amp. I spent a few weeks perfecting the tone for an album that was coming up and when I got to the studio the engineer wanted the volume down a bit so it took hours to find the tone I wanted. This amp is capable of many different sounds regardless of what anyone says and the down side of that is a small movement of any knob changes your sounds pretty good so when you find you’re sweet spot you need to take a marker so you know where you have it. It’s not a big deal but it’s something to consider. I’ve played other amps that kinda only have one kinda sound and any adjustments really just change that one sound a bit so it’s not hard to find your sweet spot but this amp it pretty touchy. But again that could just be me because I was using a metal head to play pop punk music but I wanted a little more metal sound than most pop punk bands used and again the tube set up was not stock. Also again I was using the crunch channel for cleans so all and all I was using an amp for different reasons than most anyone does so it shouldn’t have been easy for me but the end result for the album was amazing in my opinion. I didn’t use the crunch channel on the album we ended up using something else but all the distorted rhythm guitars were this amp. I added a little marshal 900 for a little bit of the mid tones but most of what you hear is the peavey. If anyone wants to check out the tones you can type in “Mouth Full The Next Disaster” on you tube, pandora or itunes. The band have been done and over for years so I’m not trying to promote anything just saying if you want to hear what the amp sounds like recorded in a pop punk situation check it out. For how cheap this amp is new it’s by far one of the best nothing for even double the price comes close.
