@evelasq19 жыл бұрын
+CaptAnderton I have to say that the mic DI did not sound as original sounding as you would hear from directly from the microphone. I have low wattage amps at home such as the marshall class five, VOX AC4TV head and cab, Gibson Les Paul Jr. Reissue amp and the Fender Super Champ XD. They can get loud without losing their balls. My VOX has an attenuator that will go from a four watt to a quarter watt and still have some balls. Don't worry about being clean and tasteful because you guys are cool and most of us are adults anyway. Cheers, Flood!

It's nice to see some amp manufacturers figuring out that 90% of us play at home and 1 Watt is plenty loud enough. The only problem amp companies haven't solved yet, is your neighbour!;-)

This is something that people just don't get. Tube amps don't get their beautiful trademark distortion until you get an awful lot of volume. I'll use my half stack on 3 to practice, but jesus does it sound amazing cranked. Low watt heads have less headroom, so you can get fucking brutal at low volumes. Deathrape2001
@T00DEEPBLUE9 жыл бұрын
Deathrape2001 These power attenuation devices are only a tiny part of the story of why amps sound good at high volumes though. I've already written something relating to this in another comment on this video; that lower powered amps have better lower volume performance than higher-powered amps (by virtue of having a low RMS power rating) is a myth for the most part and that actually, other factors have a far greater effect on low-volume performance than the amp's power. Such as the power supply design, the output transformer design and the speakers themselves. Those are the sorts of things people should really be thinking about if they want to take the issue of low volume amp performance seriously. And with an amplifier like a 6505, the vast, vast majority of the reason why that amp is famous for sounding the way it does is because of preamp distortion it creates, not the power section. The two sound totally different tonally. Power amp distortion introduces a lot of sag in the low end that's uncharacteristic of the 6505's extremely tight low end. Not to mention that things flat-out sound better when they're loud by the mere nature of how we perceive sound and music in general. The same signal at different volumes affects how we perceive and interpret the signal and there is no getting around that.

I've had this amp for a couple months now and I can say now that it's phenomenal. I also have a 5150 2x12 but this is easily just as good. Slightly different overall but it's got it's own character. Reliability has been rock solid. As for the output switch I think the 5 watt mode is the sweet spot for bedroom use. I rarely use the 1 watt unless I'm really trying to be quiet but the 5 watt mode retains a lot more character of the 20 watt mode where I feel the 1 watt mode sacrifices a bit too much. That said, it still sounds phenomenal in all settings. Just don't dial out the midrange because that's where the bite is, but that's a mistake you shouldn't make on any amp, especially the 5150/6505 family amps.

How is the quality of recordings from its DI?
@Krauser12268 жыл бұрын
+Abhishek Gaur passable. It's ok from a perspective of throwing down a riff idea or recording something real quick, but it's still clearly a direct input which isn't the best thing in the world. Mine is mic'd up with an Audix i5 which is obviously much better, but in a pinch the direct recording output isn't bad. It's not the worst I've ever heard by far but I think that's just the nature of direct outputs. They're nice for practicing and demo recordings but you're going to want to mic it up.

I own it's brother, the VK20MH, and love it. The clean channel is a brilliant pedal platform. The Varitone circuit does a very good job switching between a class A tone and a class A/B tone. I've used mine in a number of scenarios: 1w-20w, my 1x12 with a v30, a beauty Bogner 2x12, etc. It works well in all aspects, and will gig no problem. The foot pedal offers the channel switcher and a boost function. The latter puts you into a great lead tone for soloing. These are great 'do it all' amps for good value (though slightly better value in North America where they retail for $499US).
