Video #604: After 5 months, the Pebeo Prisme & Moon products are showing good compatibility with my Souffle test samples.... More Info: www.beadsandbea... Polymer Clay Tutor.
Topics Covered In This Video:
* Several months ago I did some test swatches of Pebeo Fantasy Paints on some baked samples of Souffle Polymer Clay to test for compatibility.
* Pebeo Fantasy paints are a solvent based paint with cool metallic effects.
* I tested Pebeo Fantasy - Prisme in Marina (blue) and Pebeo Fantasy - Moon in Apricot (orange).
* Sample sat for 5 months with no issues. So it appears to be safe for applying over polymer clay.
* When the paint dries, it disperses the metallic particles in unique patterns.
* The Pebeo Prisme paint pattern is more individual prism dots with a scale type look to it.
* The Pebeo Moon paint pattern has more of a streaky metallic swirl to it.
* Paints can be used together for interesting effects.
* The paints need to be mixed or shacken well before use, to distribute the metallic particles and chemicals.
* Clean up is with paint thinner such as Low Odor Varsol.
* I use a bead piercing wire to drop paint onto polymer clay surface.
* As the paint sits you can watch the reaction happening before your eyes.
* Air dries in 2 hours. Full cure 10 hours or more.
* I found these paints at an art store here in Canada called Desarres, but they are available in many locations, including online.

I love this video. I just ordered a set of the paints and was looking for information on its use and ran across your video. I've never seen this paint until two days ago and was thrilled you , the queen of polymer, had a video to help ME understand it's use. THANK YOU!!!!!! CINDY. I do polymer clay goddess faces and cabachons on cuff bracelets and I can't wait to try this paint on my cabachons. I just learned to do shibori fabric and the combination of these paints and cabochons with the shibori will be exciting to see. I've seen your videos for years and you never fail to make things that are beautiful and interesting. Your the BEST.

Got my new fantasy paints yesterday Cindy can't wait to try them. I'll post a comment about how things work out. I painted a baked polymer clay goddess face with vitrail and loved the results. It ended up looking like a piece of fired ceramic. Yahoo .love it. Do you like your subscribers to post pics of how their experiments turn out? Have a great day.

Solvent is not the same as oil. Also the company advises stirring not shaking these paints.
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 9 жыл бұрын
I am aware that oil and solvent are not the same, that is why I switched when I said the wrong one. This product is quite thin and doesn't seem to have an issue being shaken rather than stirred, but you certainly could stir it, if you want... there would be less chances of bubbles that way. Though I found that since it had to sit so long to dry, the bubbles all disappeared on their own.

If I may add ... you get more detailed affects of the prisme/ fantasy pebeo paint if you apply them to a Teflon paper first, let dry for 72 hrs , peel of and adhere to your polymer clay with epoxy glue . This was you get the full honeycomb design the fantasy pebeo paint has 😃🤙🏼

Thanks Cindy for sharing! In my experience it is a very cool product...I made (with CaBezel molds...another of your useful videos) interesting cabo...I made a mistake with prisme so I wiped off and pour another layer of paint but...clay starts to deform (!!)...obviously it depends on how thick is layer of polymerclay and how much paint you pour on it...fortunately the solvent is not so aggressive like some nail polish that makes the same effect of Prisme (for ex. Layla Cosmetic from Italy) but not suitable with polymerclay!

Are you working on unbaked PolymerClay? If so at what point are you baking .. when it is dry? Or are you using baked. I tried a gold gilding paint which I noticed made incredible patterns when dripped on paper .. I was able to lift it off dry and place on PC ... I varnished after and it was perfect. But when I tried it wet on unbaked PC it crackled the PC and left a sticky mess. Thanks for your videos .. I have learnt so much.

Jan Riordan Thanks! I used this paint only on baked clay... I wouldn't bake it.... the fumes might be bad. The gilding paint may not have been compatible with polymer clay. Some paints are not.

Hi, thanks for the info. I’ve been playing with the Prism paints, one came out very pretty, it only has 2 colors and I love it. Two others had more colors and I don’t like the effect. While the paint is dry to touch, it is sticky, can I use paint thinner to remove a portion of the paint ( or all of it) or will it ruin my polymer clay pendant? Thanks much.

Just tried both Prisme and Moon for the first time. Turned out that even after 24 hours it was still tacky. I live on the northern California coast and wonder if cold and damp make a problem with these paints. (Ice resin never dried even though mixed correctly!)

Beth Seaward mine in Ohio is also tacky after 24 hours. I try to let it sit for at least 3-4 days before doing anything else with the piece I'm working on, so I won't ruin it. I've watched other videos that recommend up to 4 days to really dry.

I tried the Pebeo paints on Kato polymer clay and it never dried. It stayed very tacky even after several weeks. Do I need to put a finish on the clay before applying the Pebeo?
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 9 жыл бұрын
That is interesting Luann Kindem . I am guessing that it is incompatible with Kato Polymer clay. I will have to do some further testing with other brands. Thanks for your input. If it did not dry, you will probably need to remove it. If it is not compatible with Kato, it will probably keep eating at your clay, even if you try and seal it.

PolymerClayTutor My clay keeps mixing together, for example I'll be using red clay and then I'll switch to white and the white turns all red. I have been using baby wipes before changing colors but it's still changing its color. Rubbing alcohol hasn't worked on this. Should I just keep keep using the wipes I tried washing my hands when I first started clay but it just made it sticky. Please help, thanks. :)

Okay y'all be careful because I use prism paints for my jewelry with resin. And I have some experimental pieces that I did about 2 years ago. And it does affect the clay it makes your pieces week it kind of eat some through to the back if that makes sense to you it eats down into it overtime just be careful I've had a couple ladies complain
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, that made me curious, so I went and found the piece that I made in this video which is now 4 years old and my sample is just fine. I wonder if it could be the brand that you used? Or perhaps your piece wasn't cured as long and that is what made the piece brittle. What brand did you use?
@Sheilapaints
@Sheilapaints 5 жыл бұрын
@@PolymerClayTutor i used Kato and premo everything was cured correctly. I make jewlery and people wear it that may be the reason. but i have had to replace several necklaces and braceletts. Not good for repeat biz.. and also word of mouth not so good i do some high end things and it was just better to return to using metal bezels

Grace Lautier ***** Most (maybe even all) nail varnishes aren't compatible with polymer clay and turn the baked clay tacky and melted/bubbly looking over time which will greatly affect the quality of your piece. Nail varnish also isn't meant for long term use and breaks down over time- clear varnish can yellow, crack or peel. Moreover, ounce for ounce, ml for ml, nail polish is often much more expensive than polymer clay glaze. Products designed for polymer clay don't reduce the quality of the clay or deteriorate over time.
@PolymerClayTutor
@PolymerClayTutor 9 жыл бұрын
***** I agree with CrimsonNorway though there are some UV Nail Gels that are compatible with polymer clay, but they are a totally different product. Stay away from regular nail polish on polymer clay... it will most likely become a sticky nightmare!!
@ladybuganon8868
@ladybuganon8868 9 жыл бұрын
I made the mistake of using nail polish in my early days--always after the clay was baked. Somehow I lucked out and my first pieces didn't react with that particular nail polish--or the clear polish I used to seal it. However, when I tried different polishes on other pieces the results were a disaster! It's been a number of years so I can't tell you which brand of standard nail polish actually worked--I believe it was a metallic. Some of those nail polishes have fantastic effects (especially today's polishes) and a genuine metallic look that can be difficult to duplicate (or find) with paints. It's no wonder we find it so tempting to use polish. But they're right, no matter how tempting--don't! It's a shame to go to all of that work and care in creating a piece then ruin it by applying the wrong product. These Premeo paints do at least replicate two of the looks we try to get from the polishes. Any suggestions as to the rest of the nail polish looks that we try to bring to our projects? What paints or inks are recommended for that genuine metallic look? How about iridescents or interference colors? Some of the other fancy effects we see in nail polishes? If they didn't look so fantastic we wouldn't be tempted to use them. What paints or inks duplicate those looks?
