There is really no way to tell whether he is on drugs or not. He does have the incentive, his numbers are also up there, but possibly naturally achievable. But in the ”UV radiation = Gains” video he comes up with such weird theory, I am not entirely convinced he would be able to come up with that just to hide his use. He obviously would not be thinking testosterone levels so much if he used exogenous hormones.

Eric Bugenhagen did a 405 decline touch and go benchpress a while back when i think he was still natty at 220-230 bodyweight. Now he's around 260-270 and seems to have taken something 1-2 years ago, after which he got a ~475 benchpress. Chase Lindley got a 405 press, but he's diabetic and takes insulin for it, that might've had an effect on his development. Plus it was more like a standing benchpress, but it was amazing nonetheless.

@@SornGeorge I respectfully disagree, I am in the military and I work with a constant stream of skinny high school kids who after a few years of training can all bench at least 225, there isn't a guy in my unit who can't bench 275, and the lightest guy is around 180. Sure they could all be secretly saucing, but the fact that we are forced to work out 5 days a week and nobody wants to run every day, shows how far a little consistancy can go. I think if those same guys who are a pretty average selection of the gene pool, focus strictly on benching 2X bodyweight and had some more intelligent programming they could do it. I bench about 385 bench at 260 bodyweight and my goal is to try and hit/maintain 400 and then try and slowly cut down to 200 BW. I'll never know until I try.

Or maybe it’s just america with that ridiculous skinny jeans stuff that made all pants thinner in the legs and butt region, but I don’t think girls would mind having bigger legs and bigger butt. If you’re ambivalent or persuaded by PEDs, you’ll definitely be predisposed to set a cap on what natural lifters can do. I was able to lift over 400 lbs for most of my 20s and 30s, topping out at 435lbs. Ironically, a pectoral tear stopped this when I started taking the only supplement I ever tried - Creatine, which my sports physio told me had led to dehydration and this in turn led to the tear. Had I trained more seriously, I’m sure as a natural athlete I could have lifted more. I would imagine I am one in a few thousand, rather than one in a few million. When I took up rowing on the Concept 2, I found much world ranking at the marathon (106th) was far superior to my ranking at the 2000m - so my power does not seem to have been out of the ordinary.
@thepeatboggy
@thepeatboggy Жыл бұрын
Old comment but the 2k test is 85% aerobic, and incredibly hard to “muscle”, rowing federations usually use 100m 500m 6k and 30min tests to accurately track an athletes power profile, your 2k is incredibly dependent on your relative 6k/30min times rather than your 100/500 times
@MrSallesTeachesEnglish
@MrSallesTeachesEnglish Жыл бұрын
@@thepeatboggy Thanks, that totally makes sense. But the marathon would be even more aerobic so, as a power athlete, you’d imagine I’d be worse at this than the 2000m.

My impression is that he's talking about the extent to which online comments suggest it's the standard for anyone serious about training, not that it can't be done without drugs. It happens, but as he says, the people who do it tend to be large-framed and heavy to start. Moreover, a lot of folks claiming 400 lbs benches leave out the part where the spotter essentially deadlifted the bar off their chests; they figure that if their hands are still on the bar and it's moving, they get credit for it. Similar to the guys who have "squatted" 500 failing to mention that they barely bent their knees and moved the bar maybe 4 inches.

Kind of ironic that Broderick talks about people having a skewed perspective on what's possible (or likely) without drugs, then claims that a 400lb bench press natty is some super rare occurrence for people weighing under 100kg-120kg (before they even started lifting!), or that 'USAPL assholes' are claiming their athletes to be benching 700lbs (simply not true.) Feels to me like his perspective on what actually happens in the 'natural' lifting world is skewed, from being so heavily involved in the drug side of things. 400lb bench press admittedly is a huge achievement for any lifter, drug free or not, but absolutely does and CAN happen for natural lifters, probably far more commonly than he thinks.

I wish there was something to legitimize this guy for me, but his way of speaking just makes him seem less credible. Ill also add that as someone who has been in and around strength sport for 14 years now I do think the "everyones on drugs" thing sometimes comes off as a bit lazy. In weightlifting its obviously a shit show and theres plenty of evidence to base that on. In powerlifting, I dont think its nearly as bad as some people claim. With the USAPL lifters as an example. What is holding the conspiracy together? I dont see all these young guys being in a conspiracy without a real threat of consequence.

Love the channel and the content, but the 400lbs bench press point irked me a bit. I bench 420lbs at 220lbs (and my "untrained" weight before I ever went into a gym would be 185lbs tops). I'm totally natural and don't even have a particularly strict diet or supplement intake. Just eat in a calorie surplus and train hard, smart and seriously. I understand the point that most average gym goers won't get anywhere near pushing that weight (and many don't want to), but I also don't think I'm a total genetic freak or huge outlier either. This kind of point annoys me because it just gives confirmation bias to all the gym bros who either half ass it, train like idiots or are just not genetically gifted to immediately go down the "it's sTerOIds" route any time they see somebody putting up impressive numbers on a lift. Again, I know it was only pointed out as an example as part of a wider discussion, but this kind of blanket statement discourages people from really pushing themselves to see what's attainable, as well as giving dedicated lifters less motivation to stay off PEDs as everyone will just presume they're juicing anyway. Cheers

The fact that he works with roided athletes makes steroids his hammer and everything other looks like nails. He's quite open about not being interested in natural athletes so how does he know what naturals can achieve? Even Sika bois themselves have opted out at least once when they are saying that you can't reach X by being natty, while soon they themselves find some sort of beast from their own circle of people who has done the X natty. And it's funnily common that people have that one in a million talent in their closed small circles :) I think Broderic is one of the few exceptions who don't know some "beast" who has done the impossible while being natty... but then again he doesn't work with natural athletes and as he has said he is not interested of them at all.
