This was a fun build! Shortly after I got this boat, I realized it could be tough to operate if the wind and current was ripping. And if I was to rent this to people, I felt it should be more fun and less work.
Now that I know the build was a success, I'll soon have a cool new, easy to operate boat for a family to rent. And like I mention in the video, I might just get another for those that aren't afraid to get a workout. Because, really, the Monaco DLX wasn't that bad right outta the box.
My thanks to Pelican for the good deal on the boat
www.pelicansport.com/products...
And many thanks to Coleman. The lil outboard is doing great!
www.colemanpowersportsusa.com...
And, of course to Scotty, for your continued support.
scotty.com/rod-holders-and-mou...
Last, but not least, Thank you to everyone who has contributed towards the creation of Zoffinger's. Patrons, renters and watchers of my videos all help make this possible!

My friend I feel that the electric trolling motor was the best setup. It was convenient you had full control of the motor without stretching and it looked very comfortable for you and your friend to fish from. I wish I had your skills. I don't know if you measure or plan these projects or if you just wing it. All I can say is my hat is off to you nice job I would love to have something like this for my own use. Not only that but you are very entertaining to watch. Your are a KZbin treasure my friend.

I agree some comments below; electric is the way to go. If a customer comes into your shop to rent the paddle boat (with motor) and is new to the water, even a small gas outboard could be a problem waiting to happen. A electric trolling motor with the right amount of thrust to move the paddle boat around at decent amount speed for a beginner or novice boater is the safest choice for you :-)

Found this exact same boat without the motor of course, at the bottom of the lake. Me and my buddy attached para cord to it with our yaks and it took us hours of thinking and finally a pulley system to pull it out. Then after 7 hours of pulling it we finally get it to the truck. Then it takes us another hour or two to fit the two seater kayaks and this huge paddle boat in my short wide bed lol. Good times.

Well, you asked for opinions, so.... Yeah, being in the rental business like you are, I think it's important to give customers choices of things they can choose from, and I think an additional pedal boat would go over great. When I was a kid, we ran the crap outta those things at summer camp, and you were saying how familys needed more choices of boats with more capacity, which this does. If mom & dad are out on kayaks, then the kids can pedal around on this, and the parents won't be worried about the kid's safety in onna these things. Plus it's just good, clean, fun way for kids to burn off energy!! Hope the business is doing well, and keep these videos coming!

I have seen those pedal boats modified with a cheap, tiller controlled trolling motor. The shaft is cut down so that it replaces the original steering control. The original rudder is connected to the new trolling motor shaft. The paddle wheel remains intact. You still have a completely operational pedal boat but with a twist of the throttle of the trolling motor it will go faster than two people can pedal on a sprint.

@@Biowolf626 Yes, but if you have a decent battery that can provide duration for the motor, then you'll be able to slow down the drain output slightly with solar panels. Example, if we got a battery that could provide us 1 hour of full throttle with the motor, then with the help of solar panels, we could add on more minutes to the power lifetime. Also when not using the power, you'll very slowly but still charge your batteries, unless you hook up bunch of 12 volt stuff to the boat like stereo and shit.

Put on an electric but leave the peddle part attached instead of taking paddles along. Two ways to drive the boat because that's the only way some people can burn calories is sitting down. Make it more of a "mid-engine" boat where the engine is mounted right behind the seats, eliminating the need to sit so far forward. Also, incorporate a steering lever that is centered in the boat at arms length that moves side-to-side with cables mounted in the tunnel.

Get a small outboard that the tiller handle flips around to the back, put a transom on front of the boat, and set your trim at an angle that pushes up on the front. You might not get as much speed out of it but it's a much more comfortable ride that way and easier to steer

a 24V 110# thrust mincota would put in some work on that boat. 2 deep cycle 850CCA batteries pushes/pulls my 17ft fiberglass bass boat for 12 to 13 hours. I hardly ever need it on high though. at most with a bass boat you only need to go 2mph when trolling down bank. Kick it on high when I need to move a short distance but dont want to use the gas engine. Moves my boat about 11mph on high.

I think I would have tried to build the motor mount on the front of the Monaco. You would need ballast in the back, but that is manageable with several ideas, perhaps a battery to run electronics or lights for the boat. Maybe even the gas motor could be modified to run the prop "backwards" so the tiller handle would be facing the passengers. The controls would be right there and the starter cord would be in easy reach. Would you consider giving it a go? I have a thesis regarding trim: with the motor on the front, the torque of the motor will tend to lift the front slightly, but it can't enough to make it head over heels.

Electric Motor was enough. Little cooler with some ice a couple brews and a fishing rod or two. Stop right there. Ahhhh.

James Farnham nah. How much easier and longer lasting is it to fill up gas than charge two batteries. I think both have their pros and cons but in my opinion gas is better

I think I would install a sprocket on that stock large diameter shaft from the big paddle (perhaps some bearings on that shaft), and install an electric motor on it with a chain or belt to drive the shaft, with perhaps solar cells on top of that little roof so it wouldn't cost you much more as if you are peddling yourself, only a lot easier....

With that gas motor now it has more wake than a cargo ship, I'd rather stay with the trolling motor and sneak up on the fish lol 😎 🍻

@@MrPhilip2253 , I'm pretty sure those would exceed the 600 lb limit for the boat, but sure would be fun trying!!

I did the same thing my dolfin minus the fishing and camera stuff, mine is set up for crabbing (trout line and snap traps). The self contained gas motors the way to go, I went with a 2.5hp and it was perfect. You are a detail craftsman like me and you do excellent work my man.
