This session, recorded on Sunday, January 21, at SCCM's 2024 Critical Care Congress, provided context and guidance regarding the updated guidelines for determination of brain death (BD)/death by neurologic criteria (DNC) in adults and pediatrics. Speakers addressed the collaborative efforts for guideline development, updates on prerequisites for BD/DNC determination, examiner qualifications, the examination process including apnea testing and special considerations, and the role of ancillary testing.
