Who will Catch Articuno? Mew has joined the party! Now Red will face Sabrine for the Marsh badge in saffrom gym. Also it's good and satisfying to see the realness in this series. Gym leaders are top trainers, defeating a gym leader is a huge deal, becoming a Pokémon Master is tough, you have to learn alot along the way, you have to keep training and keep going and you don't always succeed. And when you fail you have to uplift yourself and train harder to become better and succeed the next time

That's one nice thing about Gyaradose in Gen 1. It's super OP, but you have to actually put in the work to grind your Magikarp up into it. So you still earn the ability to steamroll the last 3 gyms.

Gym leaders in-game are held back by the existence of levels and the fact that the storyline is the tutorial. Gym leaders in (for example) Pokémon Showdown PvP challenges are barely held back by monotype rules. They can be brutal.

There was this bit of lore where a Pokémon's obedience to a trainer correlated to their level. Also served in the games as a "handicap" to deter the idea of constant leveling up to try to beat tough trainers and encourage Gym battles.

I smell some foreshadowing at the end. ;D I really like what you did with Sabrina's fight. It's a good way to show how she can use her psychic powers to gain an edge. Plus, the visuals really helped to set this battle apart. (And as it was pointed out already, its outcome is realistic.) The second part was nice. Misty's and Daisy's presences were a nice addition, and so was the fact that Red and Leaf travel together. It's a good thing that you change the group dynamic from time to time. Having Red always be on his own would be repetitive after a while. I really liked the humorous touches of the second half of the episode (Daisy isn't Blue's sister for nothing^^), they were my favorite part... And the scene of them trying to catch Articuno triggered some traumatic flashbacks.X) I can't even remember how many Hyper Balls I had to use... Also, maybe I'll be the only one, but I find it deliciously funny that MISTY is actually the one who wears the most clothes during the "Beach episode".^^

Kinda hard to punch someone who can teleport, has insanely powerful attacks that can hit you before you can reach that are also nigh undodgeable, can fly and is super fast.

I love how using "surf" just means having fun in the sea. Otherwise, nice illustration of how OP the psychics were in gen 1. If Red ever had an Umbreon, then Sabrina would be out of luck.

@@KopperNeoman megahorn is a fantastic move actually the strongest non recharge move in the game at that time A dam shame bug types didn't all have access to it in Gen 1 n 2 via tm If that was the case psychic would have been balanced and not op n bug wouldn't have been bad Scyther n pinsir would have both been really good to use Ironically butterfree was the best Gen 1 bug type at the time since it had a moveset n great special n I would give beedrill a close second but the problem is they both had bad base stats Scyther n pinsir would have been great if megahorn was there as a tm since they had decent base stats plus psychic poison n grass didn't want to see megahorn at the time

Well, this episode was another winner. Red fought difficult foes...but they keep getting more difficult. Really shows the gym challenge would be not something one can breeze through. Especially Sabrina with her psychic types and her ability to screw with the minds of her challenges. Red is going to need to shield his mind if he wants to challenge her again. So a sabattical to get some training in and get a few new teammembers is logical. And Articuno's battle...yeah, def not as easy either. Everyone whom caught a legendary ever would feel that pain. Also, hinting at the other two birds (and with Moltres referring his migration from Victory Road to Sevvi Islands) really makes we want to see the next few episodes the more. I love to see Red interacting with his recurring cast. I really like the sibling like dynamic he has with Leaf, Daisy showing some impishness and especially Misty. The fact she is at home for training at Seafoam shows that there is a lot more to her then that second gym battle in the kanto games. SHe is a pro with a rigours training regiment for her mons but also for herself. We've seen her use her full potential multiple times and show all of these gym leaders have earned their spot.

That theory was a good point. Red clearly wasn't mentally ready to face Sabrina and that brutality proved it because of the unwanted fame and Red's inability to deal with it in a healthy way after the whole fiasco with Giovanni and his team rocket members, not to mention facing the unstoppable Mewtwo as well. In this gym match, Red clearly lost it before he even faced Sabrina first time because of what happened after the whole team rocket fiasco.

It was hard to see Red lose but you can't win them all. I could see this as a lesson for Red, Green and Blue. But the questions remain: What techniques will Red yse to get the Marsh badge and what coaching will Sabrina provide for him. Knowing her abilities, she knows Red will get the badge. I wanna bet Sabrina will foresee Red and Ethan/Gold's battle on Mt. Silver. Also, the nods to horror movies was a sweet touch. You got a favorite? Mine is Nightmare on Elm Street (1984).

Keep it up. Having Red catch one of the Legendary Birds is a big step. Seems when it comes to Psychic Types in Gen 1, only two ways to match them. One is to use a Psychic Type of your own. The other is to use a Ghost Type Pokémon. Sabrina's gonna be the biggest obstacle for Red to get over. Once that's done, the next move will be Cinnabar Island.

Except the ghost type wasn't actually effective in gen 1 for two reasons. 1 the type was bugged and didn't actually have a bonus to psychic types And 2 the only ghost type was the gastley line. Which were weak to psychic cause of their poison type.

@@reagenlionel Don't forget 3 and 4 3 Ghost was classified as a physical type and Gengar was a special attacker And 4 even if Ghost was special, Gengar's only STAB moves were Night Shade (a move that does fixed damage based on level) and Lick (a 20-30 BP move that was essentially useless thanks to Reason 1.

Pretty neat how even though the legendary birds don't play a big role in Kanto's lore, they're still implicitly tied to one character each in particular (for example: in Pokémon Masters the three Kanto protagonists work with one of the legendary birds, Red with Articuno, Blue with Zapdos, and Leaf with Moltres). In this story, Misty accompanying Red and Leaf to the place she uses as her training ground leads to Red's capture of Articuno, while this episode's ending seems to hint at both Lt. Surge accompanying both protagonists to the Power Plant where Zapdos is hidden (not the first time the Electric-type gym leader has been asocciated with Zapdos, considering his manga counterpart who worked for Team Rocket seemed to have the electric bird under his control) and a possible trip to the Sevii Islands to both try to catch Moltres and deal with Team Rocket grunts shortfly after dealing with Blaine (who was inspired to specialize in Fire-types in the first place thanks to once being rescued by said legendary).

Actually in gen 3 Fire Red/Leaf Green - You can learn Squirtle and Zubat a dark type move, Bite.

It's because of 2 reasons: 1. When Red caught Articuno it had way less hp than when leaf tried to catch it 2. In Gen 1, sleeping pokemon are easier to catch. This is the same with burn or paralysis.

Theory: I have a theory that pokemon human relationships are probably legalized in places like Kanto but are illegal in places like sinnoh, that would explain why we see npc’s say they are dating a Pokémon in places like kanto, but not in places like sinnoh.
