My old boss has a shop with direct burial 6x6s and its roughly almost 50 years old on the original section and it's still standing strong. That being said, if you can afford the sonotubes and post brackets, definitely go that route. Alaskan slab(monolithic slab) works great too.

Yeah, those are great options for sure. I started build this type of building with my Dad when I was about 8. Those buildings are now 35 years old and still going strong. This building will outlive me.

In Finland we would never ever build like that. All wood that is touching the ground will rot, get mold and all kinds of nastyness. Also wood inside concrete a strong no-no. And will the ground carry the slab? Are you sure? Taking just a little ground off from the top is not enough. Here it is mantory to survey the ground by drilling first.
@DovidMoshe Жыл бұрын
Green treated doesn’t mold
@HobbyFinn2 Жыл бұрын
Its not eternal even if green treated. Anyhow here we do not put wood in contact with ground in any form. Just a practise.

Came out great and yall made it look fun and easy. I was wondering how you reinforced the floor for the lift posts? Didn't look like you poured extra deep concrete but I did see the extra gravel when you brought the Kubota in there and scraped it before the concrete came. Could you please explain how that works? Also what are the floor coatings for that nice white finish? I love a bright clean floor. No lost fasteners! Thank you very much.
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead2 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yeah, it is 5” concrete everywhere else and 7” in the lift area. That extra gravel is because we actually had that area too deep. It is also fiber reinforced 4,000psi mix.

Awesome build - thanks for sharing. Inspiring to see the teamwork and final product. Couple of questions: Why no insulation? Why two pours for the floor?
@PeeksPeakHobbyHomestead Жыл бұрын
Good questions. So the white board on the inside walls is foam board insulation. It isn’t the greatest, but just came down to budget and that was the only option we could afford. The floor was poured in two pours because we had never poured or finished concrete and we wanted to do it ourselves. We decided breaking it up would make it something we could handle. 👍
