In a nutshell, he spent his life looking for his mom who abandoned him as a small child. He did find her, she basically said: I gave you up because I didn't want you in my life. I still don't, & shut the door. Now read the lyrics & you begin to understand the pain & heartbreak in his voice as he sings this song. Strangled by the wishes of pater Hoping for the arms of mater Get to me the sooner or later Holding back the years Chance for me to escape from all I've known Holding back the tears Cause nothing here has grown I've wasted all my tears Wasted all those years And nothing had the chance to be good Nothing ever could

Yep! That's our Mick Hucknall. Great Soul voice. Simply Red were massive in the late 80's and 90's in UK. 🙂💜💐🇬🇧

The singer is English as in from England. His name is Mick Hucknall, but his name does sound like the Celtic heritage (Irish or Scottish). I have never heard Gingers have no soul. Glad you found out they do. This song is a banger. If it doesn't talk to your soul, you don't have one.

English band from the 80's. Singer is Mick Hucknall. Very popular then, for his soulful voice. The Brits really do like the blues and R & B. they do it well.
