It's too bad the old Daisy VL rifles got the boot. For what was effectively a .22 caseless round and a rifle that could still be used as a fairly high powered standard air rifle even if you didn't have the VL ammo for it, it was a neat idea. I understand why Daisy dropped the line, they didn't want to have to go through the trouble of getting licensed as a firearms manufacturer to keep selling them. But it was a really neat system. the rifles are out there, but they are pretty rare and extremely collectible(Obviously.). The caseless rounds are still out there too, but super rare as well. And who knows if they would even still work, assuming the powder was still attached to the pellet. Would be neat to see someone shoot one if they actually had the stuff to do it.

Then the same thing 3” with the ends protruding dipped in 1/4” of hot led of 12 ga dia. (Obviously to make it front heavy and maybe hold everything together until hitting the target). Also, dipping both ends in hot lead for a balanced load and finally all the wires stacked and cut to fit inside a 3” shell but entire load dipped in hot lead to make a solid bullet filled with stiff wire pieces. Brad type nails are similar.

I got these for my .22 piston air rifle. They are substantially faster and penetrate quite deeper than regular lead pellets

A pointed tip will always be less accurate at subsonic. Same reason, aerodynamically, why airliners don't have pointed noses. More tolerance to inaccuracies and environmental changes to the stagnation point. Supersonic, different kettle of fish, like Concorde etc, pointed is better because of the shock wave position.

Idea: fill the holes with a liquid to measure the difference in displacement on the led plate. Question: what might the damage comparison be between AR15 lead rounds if replaced by zinc rounds?
@IrvineTheHunter4 жыл бұрын
Realistically the difference would probably be similar to a light FMJ and a heavy lead, zinc is much lighter and jackets protect the bullet from deformation.

At 14:39-14:41 you can see the zinc tip of the pellet exiting the bottom of the gel where it meets the table, so it actually veered down and out within inches of the end of the block.

The first Taofledermaus video I ever watched was the first one launching pellets with a .22 nail driver cartridge. Been hooked ever since. Going to have to get out to the solid fuel mass accelerator range as it is about the only place you can go to have any fun now.

Hey Jeff... I wonder. Any pellets like the Red Penetrator or similar where you can remove the tip and actually put powder into the casing? Not that I'm sure it would work anyway, but I wonder if the compression would be enough to ignite the powder.

I once read a story about a man, who in college, machined his own custom .177 cal pellet rifle with a 24 inch barrel. He made custom ammo for it, using the hottest (purple) ramset cases filled up entirely with purple ramset powder. He said was able to achieve 5000FPS with steel bbs before the barrel wore out. I would like to see that recreated, as the energy dump with bbs at those speeds would likely be on par with 9mm or possibly more.

When I had a Rem. 700 chambered in 17 Remington, I handloaded some 15 grain Burger moly coated HP bullets with a full charge of powder. Was getting over 4450 fps over my chrony. Amazingly, those little Burgers held together. I shot a piece of thick (2 inches I think) plexiglass from a teller window from a bank that was being torn down. First shot it with a 1911 230gr FMJ. Only made a light dimple you could barely feel with your finger. Them I hit it with that tiny 15 gr HP at 4450fps, and it zipped all the way through it. Amazing stuff.

When you do the next round of tests will you compare standard and high velocity .22 lr to the ramset mass accelerated pellet?
@stanpotter77644 жыл бұрын
The ramset pellet they tested is much more powerful than a .22.
