Logical and realistic opinion of both pellets and slugs .Personally, I was very keen to use slugs in hunting pigions ,but it turned out that slugs damage every body parts of the bird to the extent that you do not fine any meat 😂😂.I also discovered that the distance is most of the time below 90 yards ,so I stuck with using pellets .

Thank you for this fine video. You make a rather satisfactory argument for using different projectiles for separate uses - which is my personal philosophy. Also pellets cost far less than slugs - JSBs 25.39 grain redesigned being my favorites at approximately 925 FPS on the higher value for 48.45 FPE. Since I am a neophyte in the air gun world, I would suggest to anyone to start this trek with pellets, but good-quality pellets so as not to damage the rifling of the air gun, therefore better accuracy and precision (there is a difference). Much obliged for your films.

@@ShootingTargets727 it doesnt deform or expand like lead pelet and i noticed at 30 joules muzzle energy it made clean hole through metal spoon where heavier normal pellet at 40 joules energy still couldnt made hole through spoon since they just deform so much too much surface area so im assuming thats why it cant penetrate

Like I always say, it comes down to what are you using the gun for, some people don't even have a hundred yards plus now you have to drive to the range or drive to a location where you have 100 yards plus, and I have seen videos with pellets shoot beautifully at 100 yards, also in most cases if you're hunting I don't think you want to hit your target at a hundred yards you probably want to do so closer than that, so like I said, what are you using the gun for.

Glad I watched this analysis. I haven't yet fired a pellet yet from my Bullboss. Think that if you want to tune your barrel in for slugs perhaps its prudent to tune in with slugs only. This I will do. But if they do not have the 60 80yrd accuracy required then I will come back to this cool guys advice. I am sure that what he means is that your gun will have its limits. Slugs are the long range choice. But if your gun is not accurate enough with them, then you have to find the max distance and accuracy available for its kill shot. Thanks again Mr Cool for your down to earth take on the situ. I love the idea of slugs in my Bullboss. But without such analysis I might spend just too much time on flogging a potential dead horse. For this I thank you. Until I can afford an FX or better.

After watching a lot of comparisons of pellets and slugs I have come to the conclusion that, hunting with both at the same time- same rifle, is not possible. The shift in point of impact between the two simply makes them mutually exclusive at mid to longer ranges. So on any particular hunting trip it simply has to be the one or the other. The one that has been sighted in with. Thanks again for these thought provoking videos.

Again, very pertinent and informative video. Slugs is more for gaming...I feel so. For medium power pcps, slugs are not recommended because invariably the reg pressure will have to be incr atleast by 10 bar for same weight slug vis a vis pellets. Also, the exact apt size of slug to be identified to cause less stress on barrel. Cost.... accuracy ... are other factors. Airgunning has a limit, thereafter is the place due for fire arms. Thanks again for good info.
@ShootingTargets727
@ShootingTargets727 2 жыл бұрын
yep, we are geting lighter slugs in small calibers that are close to pellet in air usage and reg power but those choices are pretty small right now. Hopefully we producers will take notice, but hey pellets are still fun, cheap and have their place... Thanks for chiming in..

Appreciate the fact you are talking about FPE BUT FPE AT POI IS THE FACTOR You might consider testing claims of additional accuracy By adding this that and the other thing THEY ARE TRYING TO SELL US YOU ARE HEADED IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION KEEP IT UP THANKS TOM
@ShootingTargets727
@ShootingTargets727 Жыл бұрын
Yea, after the video I was thinking I should of been more clear. The FPE I think most of the time I was referring to was at the POI. I made the mistake of mixing the 2 items but year it does matter since BC and power of the pellets die off pretty quick. Thanks again for watching.

New subscriber. Slugs don't like choked barrels. Pellets are great 👍 Slugs do a lot more damage to critters. Now I'm hunting with 25 and 34 grain pellets in 22 and 25 cal. Kinda best of both worlds. Thanks for sharing

There will always be a demand for Diabolo pellets for springers and lower velocity pellet guns . Even in some PCPs with a velocity in the 700-800 FPS range . When the introduction of the slug came into the PCP world it opened up a whole new performance level never realized for long range accuracy . I made my first expensive purchase of an FX MKII 3rd generation just before the M3 came on the market because of the slug . Not even FX was ready for the slugs and the demand for velocity to get the heavier slugs to fly properly for the distances hunters wanted . Reliability has suffered due to the higher pressures required to sling a pellet well beyond what we once thought impossible to achieve . O-rings , hammers to drive the valves and trying to keep consistent speeds for long distance accuracy has proved to be a challenge . FX is still struggling with their barrel design due to the higher velocities and harmonics but through carbon sleeves with a way to tension the barrel will be acceptable for competition in the 22 caliber . Not so sure about bigger calipers without a bull barrel . I look for a lot of innovation in regulators , valving with less restrictive porting to take us to the next level . FX seems to be ahead of the game in that respect with the new FX Panthera . I hope other manufacturers will follow suit . I still think the 22 is the best alternative for the PCP world for both competition and hunting without putting to much demand on the PCP air guns with reliability issues . The 22 is the only caliber I see competing against firearms . That is the threshold and limits for the Airgun industry .

very well said. Reliability was going to be on one of my next videos. I been seeing alot of stuff breaking and now that these airguns started with 1 or 2 orings and have grown to over 50 in some guns it is asking for problems when pushing for more power... Thanks for some of the insight.

I have a gauntlet G30 I shoot slugs exclusively now I’ve seen poor accuracy from pellets even at 50 yards I use NSA 49.5g 7.62/.30 cal at 960 fps with over 3000 shots through the gun I’ve no issues other then a worn sear pivot pin. The gun did fluctuate regulated psi out of the box which caused shots to over or under shoot at 200 yards I fixed by changing out the regulator to an adjustable ninja unit, now it hits dead on out to 200 yards the limit of my shooting lane

So my thing is this, same slug weight same pellet weight, the problem is when you go up in weight. The air is the same regardless. The higher the weight of the projectile the more air you are going to have to push it to your desired destination. Regardless of the shape. How many bullets are shaped like pellets none that I know of. Slugs because of their aerodynamics will have less drag than pellets. Conduct a test with slugs and pellets that weigh the same and find your results. There is a reason why slugs are becoming a popular ammo for shooters. The quality of Airguns will determine how much down time a shooter will experience. Most gunners are buy parts to get the best out of their guns. I would not treat my airgun like a trailer queen, not even when I get my FX.
@ShootingTargets727
@ShootingTargets727 2 жыл бұрын
Marty, curious in my testing sometimes the slug fits tighter in the barrel and requires more air to get the same speed as a pellet alot more air. So it depends on what you shoot. My buddy has an fx and his slugs / pellets almost shoot the same speed which is nice. He has even seen the javlins that are heavier shoot faster than fx hybrids which are less weight. Just my experience but slugs tend to require more power and put up with higher speeds than pellets. My .177 has 10 grain knockout slugs that shoot 105 fps slower than 10.2 grain pellets. so the air usage is HUGE. Just my experience in letting users know that shooting slugs is not the absolute end all be all there is a cost in ammo and air usage.

@ShootingTargets727
@ShootingTargets727 2 жыл бұрын
Frank, the prices have gone up and some are really hard to find. I looked at prymid air and found JSB Match Diabolo Exact RS .177 Cal, 7.33 Grains, Domed, 500ct, 4.52 mm.... I just loaded up and bought 2,000 round for $56.96 because of the 4th tin is free. Basically this equates to .2.8 cents a round. The inflation thing is really killing the pellets as you can hardly find the stuff you want because of backorders. .22 rounds were not that much more 13.4 grains at 3.4 cents a round .. hope this helps.

@@ShootingTargets727 Good info. I'll keep an eye on them. I have been shooting NSA slugs. I but 900 at a time and with shipping, they run about 8.5 cents each in .25 caliber. Works out less per slug if you buy more as they charge a flat rate for shipping.
@ShootingTargets727
@ShootingTargets727 2 жыл бұрын
@@bigfranksworld Yea, I am always watching the costs as well because it is always going up and down then adding in shipping as well. So, agree with you thou, slugs can be real expensive and if you get a great deal on some 18.1 jsb or whatever pellet you are using you might just want to buy an entire crate full of them and call it a day. I think with some shopping you could probably get them down to 2.5 cents a round which you know is almost 3 to 4 times less than shooting slugs. I hate spending $200 on slugs feels like a powder burner lol ... take care

Confused! I've been saying this for quite a while now which is that understanding calibers, slugs vs pellets, grain weights soft lead slugs hard lead slugs Etc in terms of understanding accuracy and penetration energy / fpe is difficult to understand. About a year ago I had the understanding that shooting a 25 caliber pellet compared to a 30 caliber pellet, the 30 caliber would have more penetration energy/FPE when shooting in an object. Then I saw a test shot with a 25 caliber pellet and a 30 caliber pellet through Pinewood and ballistics gel and the 25 caliber actually did more damage and penetrated deeper than the 30 cal which surprised me. This was shot at anout 20 yards but again this test result could have been different at 50 or 100 yards. It seemed to me that it was conclusive that when you're shooting slugs you're always going to get more energy and penetration as compared to a pellet but your test results don't show that unless possibly the slugs were of a softer lead in your test compared to the pellets. That's another thing to consider when doing penetration tests. I think that if you're shooting a 25 cal slug and a 25 cal pellet of equal grain/weight with the same gun and the lead used in the pellet and slug is equal in terms of hardness, the slug is still going to penetrate more than the pellet. What's your opinion? Sincerely Confused
@ShootingTargets727
@ShootingTargets727 Ай бұрын
Yea so many variables. I will say many times when we try to get an answer we must take into consideration all the variables. Soft Lead, hard lead, BC of the object vs weight. Diameter of the object and the subject it is penetrating into. I wish I could give you an answer but there are so many factors that it really does depend. So one example is Pellets VS SLugs on say a sparrow. My believe is that the pellet expansion puts more energy on the little bird than a hard nosed slug. Both the projectiles go through the little sparrow but the pellet being soft can spread out more and mushroom impacting more energy on the bird vs a solid slug and no expansion. So things get really weird. Then we have BC where the pellet slows down alot more on the way to the bird so it does not have as much power when it impacts the bird. So wow hard to say all things have to be considerd on a case by case bases. Hope this helps.
