I would say lose the thermal fuse and replace it with a regular amperage based fuse. You would just use an in-line fuse holder. So the way you would size your fuse would be for instance if the motor specification indicates that it draws .5 of an amp, you would put a one amp or two amp fuse into the inline fuse holder. Hope this helps.

This is very helpful. This would be my first attempt at changing a thermal fuse. The worst case is I can't fix it and the fan is already dead. Would this involve soldering the fuse in? - I was watching a recent video on youtube from @JordanU and was seeing how he made the fix.

@@CartierEd Would personally recommend the thermal fuse in case the motor gets packed with dust. They are readily available on major online retailers. Here is one I have found for you and it is "BOJACK SF129E SEFUSE 10A 250V Thermal Fuses 133 Degrees Celsius Thermal Cutoffs (Pack of 10)"

The fuse is inside of the rubber tubing where the wires connect to the stator of the motor and it's usually inside a white fiberglass tube or it's a square piece that's smaller than a fingernail and it's usually soldered in place and the box in the corner is the capacitor. These would have either a 115°c 2 amp fuse or a 130°fuse for the most part when I'm doing fuses I will usually go with the higher rating for longevity and it's still better than nothing. I know there are vids out nowadays on how to do thermal fuses but I will post one soon.

Thanks for the insight. I will keep working on it. I'll have to teach myself to solder and get a soldering iron. I look forward to that video.

@@CartierEd I recommend getting some heat shrink tubing as well but you need to be very careful about soldering in the new fuse as it could cause it to melt internally. You could also just cut the legs off the old fuse and twist the leads of the new one onto the old leads so that you would avoid soldering it altogether.

@@CartierEd I wonder if you and Jordan U can do a collab video where all three of you work on a fan together.

@@HuskyDog88 I would gladly drive to Connecticut to do that. It would be a wonderful learning experience for me.
