I started scribble drawing one day while a friends house - just trying to decide what I wanted to do artistically that day. And they came out really well. I did a quick portrait of him, his son, Coretta Scott King, random landscapes. I really got into it. I'd never done scribble drawing before and found it really relaxing.

I use this technique. I had never seen it before, but it's the only way I can get an accurate portrait accomplished. I think it is a loose, beautiful way to draw and sketch. It is a favorite of mine to use when drawing people and figures. I'm happy to see someone else does this. I always thought I was weird.

It takes lots of practice and insight on how to bring an effect forward to please or give the eye the illusion of something recognizable from a far when it's actually just some scribbles when you close up.

Im not a connoisseur but scribbling is one of my favorite techniques, I didn't know what it was called. Pen & ink is perhaps the greatest medium in graphic, imo. You can show worlds of wonder and speak to the emotions and subconscious with a very low tech instrument.

Scribbled faces almost automatically add the necessary dosis of imperfection to faces and other stuff. The imperfection and non-smoothness make them appear more natural, even though there are not as exact as more detailed drawings or photography.

Anything should work. Just remember, the type of pen he's using in the video is going to be much smoother than a regular ballpoint pen but from my experience it does tend to dry out easier. Just use whatever you're comfortable with or currently have.

Scribbling is different to other techniques where proportions and rational, mindful mind -controlled creation is in charge. It´s closer to leaving the unconscious part of your brain take a bigger share of decision making in our actions; so your working mind drifts a bit, more free and less guided by reasoning proceses and even by intuition. It opens a little window to the areas of your brain related to the unconscious mind. Our brain has two modes (while we are awake): the "Default Mode" and the "Task Oriented Mode". It is always in one or the other. In the TOM we are focused, alert and ready to make decisions, face challenges, tackle problems, etc. But in the Default Mode the more independents areas of our brain take over and our thoughts tend to drift. This Default mode is prone to brooding and rumination on past actions and also to think of the possible dangers in the future. So, experts advise to avoid being carried away by this passive state, mainly through by mindful meditation. But I think that some creative activity is also an option: there is a video by the artist Tim Gula (veteran USA comic artist) on 'Meditation for Artists' where he dos a drawing to relax the mind. He says that other artist he knew, like Frank Frazetta, also did it to relax their minds and allow their style to flow and not grow bored or stale.

@VanshikaaSharma7 жыл бұрын
Matt Curtis I know I'm no one to tell you anything but still just an advice, only practice will help you get the pen works right! keep on using pens instead of pencils draw things with a pencil first and make the similar thing on another sheet with a pen and try to make it as much similar as it can be in regard to the technique you use in drawing.
