All of the old homes in my area are built with a roof like this. Thin pine with shingles directly overtop and no underlayment! My parents home has three layers of shingles on those tiny things of wood.

I have found the top four courses laid with Vicant cement on houses built in the 1880's on

Definitely wouldn’t be walking up and down that ladder with just that little bit at top holding the ladder it looks totally unsafe especially if you was to use it on a slate or tiled roof

That's a crazy roof even in the old days they never skipped tar paper someone tried to save a buck. What a great job I can't even find roofers that would do as good a job as this in my area I'd like to hire you.

Thanks for another great video Chad. I’d like to make a couple of video requests from you if you don’t mind. 1. Setting up and using your profiles, guides or string lines to do a rebuild from the roofline up. Addressing things like where to buy these and how to install them. 2. How to support a SS chimney liner at the thimble end. I’ve heard some guys say fill the bottom with used masonry up to the thimble which doesn’t sound right. More specifically in a multi flue chimney with nothing separating each flue. Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge and experience. Your videos are super helpful to me, a stone mason who recently became a certified chimney sweep.

The one I use most days is 1-9/16” sds max. It’s good for most of my jobs and not too heavy. Sometimes I do wish it had a bit more power.

Yes, I have done a lot of stonework during my career. I wash the exact same way.

Would it be safe to acid wash the brick after the lead has been installed? I forgot to acid wash my brick and have the lead already good to go

Its fine to wash when the lead is on, most people do it this way. It will take the patina off the lead just like it would to copper, so it will look slightly different after.

It’s slightly noticeable, but it won’t hurt the lead. It’s just cleaning the oils and oxidation off of it.

Um, Chad, why don't you design a hook like you want and then sell them? Question, you say lime motor is better than the S motor of today but isn't S motor mostly lime with some portland?

I have a lot of big ideas! I just need a shop and a welder. Type S has very little lime content. Type N has 50/50 lime and portland. Lime is confusing. It covers a broad spectrum of products. The lime additive used in today's cements is called calcium hydroxide. The lime used historically for building is calcium oxide/quik lime. The limestone it is made from is also much more pure.

Second-I watched a video from YT on architectural brick history and it was explained to that linseed oil was mixed with the iron oxide to paint brick after it was built to provide uniformity of color.
