Where can I buy those pencils?
@Initial_Gopnik2 жыл бұрын
The recycled pencils were my all-time favorite in elementary school we would only be able to get them from book fairs, they were really comfortable and well made with great graphite, I remember finding out the specific ones we had were made made in Japan from newspapers after i got curious and started delaminating one, thats probably why they were so great.

Were the ones with the Japanese newspapers called smencils??
@Initial_Gopnik2 жыл бұрын
@@pearloftheuniverse3699 Gosh that sounds really familiar, could have been, but I only ever bought them individually because I would spend most of my money on books and have maybe enough to buy maybe 6-8 and theyd last me the year, so I never got a whole pack. They always lasted a good while as long as you didnt let other kids borrow them.

Why? Look at the numbers on there goals and production rate. Would take them 333 years to provide free pencils at a rate of 3000 a year donated. The goal could be reached in 10 days of production. If they donated 1 days production a year they would reach there goal in 10 years. A hours time a year donated would take 80 years. To reach there goal in 333 years they are literally donating 249.75 minutes of production time a year (4.16 hours) They don't care about the kids lol

Look into plants native to your area and use those for landscaping in your yard or garden. You can grow them from seeds too and give your transplants to your friends and family for their gardens. I really like native wildflowers as a gift for friends and family. I’ve grown some to add to my aunts garden and given a few to my mother in law. Our pollinators are super important to the environment and not all of them are bees. But a lot of landscaping where I live has either no flowers or plants that aren’t native. I have been considering buying bags of drought tolerant grass seeds though, to sprinkle around the yards in my neighborhood where the grass is dying off from a lack of rain and restricted watering. I saw a small bag of grass seed that was drought tolerant, and it could grow in full sun and in full shade. It’s not native but it is a type of ground cover that could help reduce the heat by covering the bare patches of soil, reduce the amount of dirt picked up by the wind that contributes to poor air quality, help reduce the need to water, and keep more water in the soil which will eventually help our water table. The benefit is also that adding these grass seeds to peoples lawns is something they likely wouldn’t be upset about because they already have grass there. The down side is it’s like $40 for a 10 lb bag and people might not be comfortable with a stranger putting “something” in their yard. So it would have to be very carefully done. Even a couple of seeds that grow plants that are better equipped to handle the environment would help though. Those few seeds would grow grass that would eventually spread over their entire yard and out compete with the dying grass they currently have. Once established though, it would be a big help.
@DiscoChixify2 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of neglected public spaces out here where I live and I’ve been considering throwing around some native wild flower seeds in those big old dirt patches to see what grows. No harm in spreading native plants or beautifying the landscape. And it helps the pollinators. The monarch butterflies travel through this area every year during migration and it would be so nice to offer them a little bit more fuel along their way. Some fly frantically day and night and others stop at night before continuing during the day. Another thing I’ve been considering is buying potted native plants and taking them with me on hiking trails to plant in those areas. Some are plants that can get to 8’ tall and make great hedges but are also beautiful as stand alone plants. A bit of shade for future hikers would be nice, I think. Especially if I’m planting native plants that I already recognize in my area on those hiking trails. I figure grouping a few more together wouldn’t hurt. I live in a big city but we still have some wild spaces with deer, coyotes, rabbits, snakes etc and adding a few more plants might help give them safer habitats with more food so they don’t have to keep getting into apartment complexes and stuff. Coyotes have been eating cats and dogs in my neighborhood because food is becoming more scarce where they’re living.

There was a time, during elementary school, I got to use pencils made from recycled paper like these. Sadly, it didn't continue for long. I live in Vietnam. I have no idea where those pencils I used came from or where to buy them.
@danieldevito63802 жыл бұрын
I remember those! I remember using those as a kid here in the United States. They were a little bit softer than normal pencils. There were also pencils that were made out of recycle US currency. They were similar, but had a green tint.

Another unique idea made real by hardworking individuals and it's good for the environment! I do wish though that large companies would try to do the same and help with climate change. Sounds like a win- win to me.

You are all blind if you think this kind of shit will reduce even 0.001% of all the plastic humans consume
@aaronstanley69142 жыл бұрын
Big companies do make them it's called Smencils they used to sell them in plastic carrying chambers because they soaked them in perfumes. Honestly its a crap product that kept having the tip break off bease the paper didn't support the graphite and when you go to sharpen it their was a non zero chance it would unravel on you. Don't even hope to have it last beond half it's length in a electic sharpener.
@teenat70442 жыл бұрын
There are huge companies in America that have been making these for decades now. The previous comment mentioned smencils, I loved those things lol. But they were useless to use, so we all just had them for novelty sake. The graphite always comes out as a whole because there's no way to keep it in the paper lol

This has been a thing for about 50 years and hasn't taken off very well... I had a bunch when I was in elementary but if this was as innovative as people think, it would be a bigger product by now wouldn't it?
@JohnRussellViral2 жыл бұрын
@@teenat7044 didnt listen to the video did yea, the price to make these pencils is three times the cost. Only like minded business's are their target as nobody is gonna spend that kind of money on a pencil they can get far cheaper. Hasn't taken off due to the demand. But with all the issues with the forestry industry, I wouldnt doubt that this and other products will take off.

So they said they read al the comments, a place that does very similar stuff is the Hospital de Pediatría Garrahan in Buenos Aires, Argentina. They made a huge campaign to recycle bottle caps, paper and I think also keys. The profits go to the hospital for funding. I've bought some pencils and a couple books from them and the quality is amazing! So if you ever make it here to arg you could take a look at that. Oh also "botellas de amor" is another project here that uses single use plastic to make plastic wood that then donates to make park games for kids
