Because most people are weak and insecure. People have gone generally softer and their insecurities make them more sensitive to playful banter. They hate to lose (not sure why, cause i don't think that many are "losers", considering how many are sensitive to taunting) and when they get taunted feel like they lose the interaction if they do not do somethinf about it. I hate that they're trying to make the gamer stereotypes all feel real again. But hopefully people are seeing the pushback, it's what makes videos like this important, to show that it's not a gamer problem. Riot taking this sexist stance should only be reinforcing the stereotypes on games companies. A stereotype built on testimony and evidence. How can someone hate women so much that they lose this much self awareness? I can't fathom it but that's just how Riot and the rest are. Also the fact they banned two women players is just the icing on this bad decision cake. There is no way this can look like anything except a big middle finger to women. This is the kind of awful move that feels like it can't have happened accidentally. I feel like I'm being pranked. This was the worst possible response of the many options they had. Women are not safe working for Riot, and now they aren't safe just playing Riot's games.

I started to have a chuckle with this as a fighting game player, especially as an older Guilty Gear player where there are a myriad of options to taunt and clown on your opponent... then I remembered that devs are basically removing the taunt button as well as most methods of expression in their games. Ultimately I think it's a matter of maturity. If you can't take a little taunting or tomfoolery then you don't belong in a competitive setting with other people, plain and simple. The companies that accommodate to the more sensitive players are part of the problem; they lose out on my money and I encourage others to speak with their wallets as well. As someone who was into the competitive scene for my games I can still recognize that they're just games at the end of the day, regardless of how much passion, interest, and investment I have into those games.
