It's absolutely okay as a last resort when you realize you've been bottling for a very long time, as long as you don't sustain yourself in this state for too long, and then immediately move to something more restorative. But yes, this should not be anyone's primary coping skill. The point is to use coping skills before getting to the point of needing to release explosive emotions. However, this is relative- for those who use maladaptive coping skills such as drugs or self injury, this is an acceptable transition into less-destructive coping skills. Had to quit due to some chronic illnesses and moving, and depression and EDs have been kicking my ass since. Decided to pick myself up, channel that negative energy into getting gains and getting back into shape like I used to be, and am now making myself a routine. @@decas5505no the idea is to channel your emotions into appropriate activities like, for example, exercising, journaling, going out into the woods and screaming, etc. That way you learn to work through tough emotions rather than bottling them up inside until they burst.
