"Eventually I realized I eat like shit, but why? If I eat like shit, or I eat healthy, it doesn't really matter because 2 minutes after I've finished eating, it's already gone. The happiness from eating is gone. It's just so temporary, what's the point? I might as well eat a little bit better if I want to be happier with the way I look." When I first heard you say that, I was 225 pounds. Granted there were many things I have looked into and changed and learned along my journey, but sitting here a year and a half later at 165 I've returned to this video specifically to thank you Charlie because that quote was the one I always remembered during my weakest moments.

Well, there's beef liver. That stuff is loaded with all sorts of goodies and tastes alright if you treat it like a steak and don't overcook the crap out of it like so many people do. But yeah, technically a multi-vitamin is a 'superfood', by that definition, and I don't really think they're healthy, because it's better to specifically get the vitamins you're short on, then just spam vitamins at your system, hoping some of them stick.

I started a Keto diet back in mid November with a goal to lose 20 pounds before spring break. The stuff works but ya have to stick to it. I also did intermittent fasting at the same time as well (basically skipping breakfast, eating lunch at 12:00 and dinner whenever i got hungry before 8:00). Another big thing that helped me was to meal prep with smaller portion sizes that way the amount i am eating per meal is prepared in advanced by me when i wasn't hungry. That way i wasn't tempted to put extra on my plate and the smaller portion sizes help me to eat less. As for the results... Spring break was last week and I ended up losing 28 pounds. And I actually have some muscle definition showing on me now. Couldn't be happier!

KuzKiller887 Get a blood test and then you'll see how healthy that diet is. Weightloss from the ketogenic diet results from a loss in waterweight since the body stores glycogen in water stores in the body, and these stores get used up since fat bodies aren't an efficient source of feul.
@KuzKiller887

Actually had my annual physical done mid February (3 months into the diet) with blood tests conducted and everything was normal. So based off of my first hand results, it's a pretty healthy diet. In fact my doctor said that my blood results had improved from the previous year.

What were your results before and after going on the diet, out of curiosity. Also, fasting and caloric restriction will help with dropping the pounds and blood cholesterol and triglyceride levels. That's not necessarily because of the diet itself.

I'm a student of kinesiology and study exercise physiology and definitely second with Charles 👌 I personally do intermittent fasting mostly because its extremely convenient for my schedule but I have friends in the industry who have experimented with the keto diet and had great results as well - just be careful if you already have high predisposed levels of blood cholesterol and/or high blood pressure. If you do start keto, even just cutting out that daily 2L of mountain Dew is going to have tremendous health benefits

To be honest, the whole diet craze is kinda a weird concept to me, I just kinda eat healthily, everyone's different and no one reacts the same to a certain workout/eating plan the way that others do. The key is trial and error, figure out what works for you and go for it, there is no quick way to get healthy/fit, it's a slow grind of a process and no matter how much exercise you do there's no definitive point where you're given a medal and you win getting healthy, you have to determine when you are happy with your body, no one else gets to decide that. Just thought I'd share my perspective on the subject :) Hope everyone reaches their goals

That advice about intermittent fasting is great. I've been practicing it since October and I've lost 40 pounds so far. I only eat between noon and 8 PM each day, making sure to not overeat. I tend to have 2 meals and a snack if needed, making sure that my caloric intake is under 2000 calories. Charlie is right that calories in, calories out isn't really the most efficient way to lose weight, but in combining the two I found that I can curb my overeating better during that window. Your mileage might vary because I'm a morbidly obese male in his 20's, but I'd recommend the practice as well.

Yeah, that's the best thing about IF. If you want to eat 2000kcal per day, it's a lot more satisfying to do it in a couple of larger meals than spread out in smaller meals and snacks throughout the day that just never leave you feeling satisfied. I lost about 50kg, using IF for the much harder final 20kg. I had also started lifting by then. I wish I had used IF from day one.

I did it for the autophagic benefits, but wound up losing fat as a side-effect. It was nice to see, but not my primary aim. Ironically, I eat more fat than ever before, but it's EVOO and other healthy fats. Eating fat doesn't mean gaining fat. Eating too many carbs seems to be the way to get fat. I physically can't overdo EVOO, anyway. If I do, it just gets wasted out the other side. You're welcome for the mental image.

Funny thing about this comment is that CICO is not only the most efficient method of losing weight, but it is the ONLY way to lose weight lol. Everything else is just a method of getting to that appropriate calorie deficit which is the personal choice part. But IF, Keto (almost nobody actually does TRUE keto diet as it's designed for), low carb, low sugar, vegetarian/vegan (for weight loss purposes)...it's all just different ways of doing the only way you can lose weight: Calories in, Calories out.

My brother told me the first night, just do 100 pushups, I only got to about 45 after around 4 or 5 reps. then i started doing squats and stuff like that. It's just about starting somewhere honestly. I can do alot more pushups then i ever thought i could just because i worked at it. It's not even about the muscle but just the excitement of progress for me
@AfferbeckBeats
@AfferbeckBeats 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, stuff like pushups are quite easy to progress on, and it's a great feeling of achievement to be continually progressing at something like that. If regular prone pushups are too hard, you can start with your hands on a bench or even a wall. Then after a few weeks progress to prone. Then even progress to putting your feet up on a bench. It doesn't take long, and you do get surprising strength and physique improvements. Add in a similar pullup progression and you got yourself some very simple and effective upper body development. Lower body is harder because of how much stronger it is and how little your bodyweight is in comparison to using it for upper body exercises. Plus mobility and bodily control issues that basically everyone has from sitting on their ass their entire life makes effective and safe squatting very difficult. But not impossible.

What I like to do is workout light in the morning, just to energize myself, and in the afternoon or at night, I will do my main workout. Something that I’ve been having a problem with lately is I’ve been eating a lot of snacks. My snacks are healthy if you keep the amount small, but I’ve been eating a lot of it. Also, I was having “cheat days” on the weekends, which is really bad because that would make me binge eat. I’ve been controlling myself on the weekends now, so that’s good, but I’ve just been struggling with eating a lot for my snacks. Idk what it is. I was able to control myself when I first started trying to eat healthy, but now it’s been kinda tough. This video has helped me a lot though, so hopefully I can get through it and control myself more.

My #1 most effective weight loss tip. Find a physically exerting activity that you ENJOY doing. For me it’s rock climbing, lots of local gyms out there to get into it. I’m impulsive and bad at forcing myself to do things so an exercise that I look forward to is key.

I can say from my experience, I've been doing intermittent fasting with around a 4 hour eating window for about a month now, while exercising by playing beat saber, and it's been incredibly effective. I've lost about 25 pounds and have more muscle mass in my arms. They're both really great techniques and its so weird to find some with actual scientific sources and research papers backing them up. I'd also highly recommend 20 minutes of meditation every day

I feel like one other big helpful tip is just that consistency is key. If you don't feel like you can do much, do the most that you can in a fashion that you'll be easily able to maintain doing over the course of several months. You don't have to go crazy working out but you do need to make sure that whatever you're doing and whenever you're doing it, you do it CONSISTENTLY. From there you can slowly ramp up the intensity

About 8 months ago I saw this and it helped turn my life around. I was shortfat BadBoy, and I had tried multiple times with losing weight, and failed all of them. When I saw this I became extremely motivated to get fit. I starting using keto to lose weight and started going to the gym. Back then, I was around 170lbs, and now I'm fluctuating around 140-145. Thank you for helping me become a healthier and happier person.

as someone with severe depression issues, even just eating can sometimes be a problem, let alone getting out of bed to exercise. which I hate, because I've been dying to be more healthy and skinny since my middle school years. (I'm 25 now) I currently weigh around 190-200 at 5'4". i, too, look like a sloppy joe. it doesn't help that I have multiple health issues, including kidney failure, and I am a mother. there's a lot going on. all this to say, I really appreciate that you give advice to those asking for it. I wish I had that a long time ago. I have a dietician now, but she has so many patients, she doesn't give any one-on-one meetings. just packets of paper telling us to stay away from phosphorus, take our calcium binders, and eat nothing but fresh veggies, fruits, and meats.

I started a keto diet at the beginning of this past summer. I was at 164-166lbs and now I’ve been keeping a steady 131.5-133lbs while gaining more muscle and losing excess skin/fat. If anyone’s watching this now and questioning the keto diet, it really works. I was able to eat a lot more and actually feel full and ready to take on the day than previous diets I had tried. It’s hard at first but butter coffee/bulletproof coffee for breakfast is a fantastic start for beginning keto.

I love these more serious videos from you Charlie, one thing you forgot to mention is the keto diet lowers your peak performance, to excert yourself to the max your body needs glucose, but unless you're doing something that requires you to push yourself to the limit, it shouldnt matter that much. My personal anecdotal experience is that intermittent fasting is very effective, i've been doing it for a year, basically skipping breakfast and luch every day and eating a healthy dinner and i've lost 50 pounds so far!
@AfferbeckBeats
@AfferbeckBeats 6 жыл бұрын
Your body can get glucose from fats and proteins - gluconeogenesis. I also did IF and had similar results. It just makes eating less calories easy. Though I could imagine some people might struggle with not eating for most of the day, especially if they have a physical job.

Agree with everything you said. No matter what your goals are, you won't achieve them overnight. Doing research, figuring out what works best for you, and sticking to it, is a process that will take months or even years to really start to pay off, but it'll feel so good when it does. I'm short and skinny, so burning fat definitely isn't a huge concern for me right now. I just want to be able to lift heavy things, so it's compound lifts and lots of carbs, fat and protein for me. And if I get a decent body along the way, that's cool too. Whatever your goals, start working towards them, stay disciplined, be realistic with your milestones, and don't give up.

He's 100% right on the long-term dietary changes as opposed to going on a "diet". For me, it was changing what I ate on my lunch at work. I went from eating chicken tenders or a hamburger or some other junk food, to instead eating something simple and healthy like a salad or carrots or broccoli. Doing this for just 3-4 meals a week didn't do anything from week to week, but over the course of a year I lost a tremendous amount of weight without ever specifically going out of my way otherwise to try to lose weight, despite how little I exercised. I would say the only thing he really missed is make a change you know you can stick with. If you never eat salad and you say to yourself "I'm going to eat a salad every day" you're going to fail. You're more than likely going to eat a salad every day for about a week or two and then go right back to your normal eating habits. Make small changes for the long-term - something you know you can stick with. For me it was just 3-4 snacks a week that were changed and it helped.

I'm about a week into this Keto diet I started. Pretty much I just meal prepped chicken thigh, carrots, and broccoli for breakfast and lunch, my only two meals. I devour a shit ton of protein shakes as well, and go to the gym daily (lifestyle habit I have). But ever since I started this diet, I've been plagued with a lack of energy and a sick feeling in my head. I know it's expected, since I cut so much energy providing foods out of my diet, but still... I'm hoping to find a way to feel better while I reach my toning goals...

Awesome video, very informative! One thing I’d like to add is that it isn’t so much about motivation it’s much more about dedication, and being consistent. You could be the most motivated person in the world and do nothing, but if you’re consistent and dedicated towards your goal you’ll make it, I’m not saying motivation is use less it’s helpful but dedication and consistency is what really keeps you going and what will get you there.

One thing that worked for me was that I started working out first and my eating habits improved with it. I noticed that after I started this change with working out the diet part just slowly followed. It does take work and I had to force my self to say no to dessert sometimes, but after a while you slowly start to get control over it. Also, a great habit is to work out while you play video games. My brother got me into it and it actually helps. An example is every time you die in fornite you do a number of pushups equal to the number of people alive. Every time you die in a game like overwatch, you have a ten seconds respond, you could do five push-ups. Every time you sit waitng for the game to find you a match, you can do sit-ups, or wall-sits, or even planks. Its a small change but it can make a big difference overall. This won't work for everyone, but it worked for me and may work for a few of you who think you need it. You just need to have patients cause it will take a long time, but its worth a shot. theres no harm to doing this and its something everyone can do.
