I'm not sure the type of connection Jackson was going for but here's some clarification on the matter. Both Genshin and Star Rail are made in Unity, the games are made by Mihoyo/Hoyoverse, I believe that Tencent does have connections with them but I'm not 100% sure on that.

props to kaya on having a great handle on unity situation... unity should just walk back everything they announced and do what unity does and figure out a way to charge unfront like unreal or dunia people do... i think the mobile gaming market is mature enough to handle it... plus it will probably put an end, for the most part, the bad games/assetflips ... i also find it cute that andrew can't understand how unity would be able to maintain account of installs .. user-authentication is a huge field, of which DRM is one of the tools, they they could use, there are many other ways to easily keep track of things ... andrew should stop and think for a second how targetted ads work and are able to track everyone across devices, locations and without logging in ... the point is the engine will probably communicate with unity servers during installation and inform unity with all the important metadata of the installation (i.e if it's part of charity bundle, or gamepass or promo or demo or test install etc) and at the end of the month the developer would get a bill from unity.
