Working on one now. Came in lever partially disconnected. Harshest grinding noise when you turn handle. Opened up, live liner drag assembly and oscillator gear was solid block of corrosion. Had difficulty putting the side back on flush but I think your video showed what I needed to to do.
@TSGReelService3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for utilizing the resource. 🙂 That's par for the course on these reels If they don't get serviced regularly. ... Corrosion around the pole area, that is. The grinding noise is likely coming from something else. Try checking the gears (including the spring trigger on the main gear) and the pinion bearing. I'll get the Int'l 2-speed up on Saturday.

@TSGReelService3 жыл бұрын
@@markmontgomery9890 @Mark Montgomery Thanks for watching. It's more a function of lack care and service than them being rubbish. If we take care of our reels, then we can't be surprised or upset when they fail. The same issue happens to all the Shimano Baitrunners if you don't take care of them.
@markmontgomery98903 жыл бұрын
@@TSGReelService .... so you say I don’t take care or service my reels 😂😂😆🤣😁 I have over 18 reels but it’s just the penn bait runners that is failing - poor design / quality. Also take note that the penn bait runner is not adjustable without opening the drag cover and using a special tool. Other reels don’t have this design....the runner drag can be adjusted simply while at sea whilst fishing. 🤷🏾♀️🤔🤓

Hey man, I have a SSVI6500LL and theres no videos anywhere on this version. My Issue started with not being able to turn my handle and the live winder didnt work. I opened up my reel and noticed metal parts all over the place and then saw the O/S gear shaved off on 1 side and the support assembly broke where the rod turns it. I ordered the parts and replaced them and now my live winder works great but now I can’t get my LL to work. For whatever reason the reel was missing the friction washer/ eared washer and the nut that goes on the very end of the LL so Ordered those parts but when you close everything up and turn the handle the rod pushes up against the back of the Ll and gets stuck?? Also on the supposrt assembly part it came with a washer on it already but in the parts sheet it doesn’t say if thats apart of the assembly (83b) or if the washer in front of it is the washer that came with it (56a) anyways i tried to find a video of someone breaking this reel down but its either the ssv6500ll or just the regular ssvi6500 but none on my ssvi6500ll of course lol. If you can make a vid or reply that would help so much. Really dont want to wait months to send the damn thing off but might be only option

Nice video and it is present to see how all these little components working inside this reel. I can tell its main shaft is supported by both front and the back on the case of the reel, will that hold the reel better under heavy load, let’s say fighting a bull shark. Base on your experience and all the reels that come across, these live runner, bait runner or whatever they call these reels are stronger than their regular versions? I am looking to buy one, wonder regular or bait runner version will be better.
@TSGReelService3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I wouldn't consider that more support...a lot of Penn reels "support" the bottom of the shaft with a bushing. Relating to a bull shark, I wouldn't want to fight one with anything less than a 9500.

Great tutorial video! Good job. A week ago I bought a Penn VI Spinfisher LL 6500. What do you think of my new reel ? I think my fishing reel makes a good impression, but I am not sure. ~ Jan Fischer
@TSGReelService3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Jan! It's a nice reel. I like the concept of the adjustable rear drag lever... just not sure how practical it is.... canty really see fishermen/women constantly adjusting the tension mid-drift that this would be a great selling point. I could be totally wrong on this. 🙂
@fischercustombaits3 жыл бұрын
@@TSGReelService I understand that. Trolling. That is very practical indeed. I / we do not fish from the boat. We throw large dead bait fish from the bank and wait for a large European catfish. Up to 300 pounds. That's all. I like this reel because it is made of metal and is well sealed. - Jan

Thanks for watching. These reels don't usually fail after a few uses, if they were working fine out of the box. Sounds like more of a care (or lack thereof) and maintenance issue.... as is the case with any reel. I'll be posting a complete breakdown of one of these within the next couple of months, so keep an eye out... maybe it can help you get yours working again.
@tomallen60732 жыл бұрын
I own one of these, the way I look at it is it’s a disposable reel, for a couple hundred dollars if it lasts a year or two. Consider how little a couple hundred bucks buys nowadays, not much.
@TSGReelService2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for checking out the video. The problem is, that's exactly how they want you to see it...... as disposable, so you buy a new one, rather than maintain or repair it. $200 invested once at a 8% return per annum is worth $4300 in $40 years.
