Absolute perfection. I've never attempted any sort of reel maintenance before, but this video allowed me to completely service my rod and its in tip-top shape for the surf tomorrow. Thanks for video. I have the pierce 5000 and have to much play in my handle at the knuckle. Could i be missing a washer or something before i put the handle on? Did not see one in your video i just watched. thanks for any help , I really like the reel. Ken

The knuckle should be tight to the reel case when fully screwed in. You may have an issue with he treads on the handle stem or the threads inside the main gear. If either is stripped, the handle will not hold and it will create the issue you are describing. I would visually check the handle screw and it it appears to be OK, I would assume the issue is with he main gear. That would require you to replace the gear in order to solve the problem. Gears are not that expensive for this reel and are available through Mysticparts.com - Dennis

Dennis , i got the main gear out , and the bearing came out with it on the shaft. Is that bearing supposed to come off? I cant get it to slide off the shaft, and it is not rusted at all? thanks, getting close to solving my problem

Thank you so much for this video! This is a great shark reel. Can you provide detail on the bail and mechanism? I have ordered all of the parts (from Mystic) to replaced a bad damaged bail on a FCRii 8000. Maybe there is another video that shows this detail on a pursuit or battle?

@@2ndChanceTackle Thanks Dennis! It is like the South Bend (trip lever bar and spring). Probably the hardest repair on a reel I have ever done. You need 3 hands and a sense of humor. One thing that drove me nuts was installing the new bail roller assembly. New part had blue patch locktite on it, and it kept wanting to cross thread into the bail knuckle. I had to clean the locktite patch off, then put liquid lockitite on it. All Done, time to relax. The mystic schematic and your video allowed me to build back the whole bail assembly with 100% new parts and a sense of accomplishment, along with a new Gomexus Handle, for what is now my new surf shark reel - Penn FRCii 8000. I have had good luck out of the Fierce's in the surf for smaller fish, so long as you rinse them with fresh water everytime.

Thanks for this video, but maybe you can help me, my father just passed in his gear he has a Penn Captiva cv8000 surf reel that only spins the wrong way it looks new, there is no reverse on it. Now he was left handed so maybe it's designed that way or maybe he got it on clearance, but it's so uncomfortable I won't even try it. I would very much like to use it just because the father and son thing. Is there a way to filp the gears?

That should be an easy fix if it only spins "backwards" and has an anti reverse lock out when you try and turn it in the opposite direction. You need to remove the rotor and take out the pinion gear. There is an anti-reverse clutch on that gear shaft. Simply turn the clutch upside down and reinstall it. That will allow you to turn the feel forward and stop it when you try to crank "backwards" - Dennis

The reels are very similar in design, but the Spinfisher uses higher quality parts

It is unfortunate that there is no AR override. For that reason I wouldn’t want this reel. Other than that it seems to be a solid reel even to the point that there is a secondary AR mechanism. If it just had an override I’d like it. - Chris PS. I loved your “fashion and passion” comment. I doubt the fish really cares LOL!

Most reels are doing away with the AR over ride.

When the A/R clutch was simplified, the ability to override it became the hard thing to do, so it was easier to eliminate it. Most manufacturer's figured that the override was not used by many folks, so they eliminated it.
