That little penn 3500 slammer is bad ass and will land 75 pound black drum with ease I have pictures to prove it . We tried using a shimano stradic 4000 and it was a joke no drag at all even all the way tight it was super weak and plasticky feeling I will stick with penn American made right here in America with tons of drag for monster fish 🇺🇸

I personally own both reel VR150 by Van Staal and Penn Slammer 4500/5500. My VR150 is death after 5 months using due to the broken Anti-Reverse. Penn Slammer? This thing is a beast. Still running smooth and can take abuse. Sometime, I forgot to rinse it but it is still a tank of a reel.

The Penn is a saltwater reel and the Shimano reel is for freshwater so pick a reel that is the same happy fishing

Here in the U.K we use the Shimano Stradic for inshore lure fishing.

Stradic is not for freshwater it has been used in nz for 10+ years for saltwater
@barlow29764 жыл бұрын
@@Nofishnoclue Well Shimano call the Stradic an inshore coastal reel , and don't give it much in the way of protection against saltwater, so I think it is fair to call it a freshwater reel. I should know I've had two expensive repairs to my Stradics following dunks and splashes. The Slammer deserves to be called a saltwater reel as Penn have designed it to be seawater proof. Having said that I prefer my Stradics by a mile, but I don't need to worry with the Slammer when it gets wild.
@Nofishnoclue4 жыл бұрын
@@barlow2976 much in the way of protection? The new ones sport a fully sealed line roller and xprotect, almost fully sealed although not dunk worthy but more sealed than 90% of other saltwater reels on the market, i.e the penn battle and glad of daiwas lt serious, I own both a spinfisher and 3 stradic fls and by God the stradics leagues ahead in every way, I only fish salt and they take lots of splashes, i hose them down afterwards and they still going strong, one year later
@zackmorehouse3 жыл бұрын
The Ci4 can be used in saltwater and is great. A 2500 or 3000 for inshore is great in the US. That said a penn just tends to be bigger so if your worried about weight then just size down a little. My penn 3000 Is easily 2 sizes bigger than my pflueger 30 that’s for freshwater with a smaller bail wire etc.

I find if I have the drag reduced at all it seems to slip and make a strange noise, anyone have an experience like this or could give me some feed back, thanks 😊

I've had the Slammer iii 3500 for about two years. I also own a Stradic. The Stradic is definitely more refined and has better line lay. However, in my opinion, it's really an apples to oranges. The Stradic is akin to sports car and the Slammer would be a tough and full size, but refined SUV. They'll both get you to the store, but one is better at towing and the other better for carving through winding roads. I use each reel in different fishing scenarios. If I am fishing for redfish (red drum) on the flats, I'll likely fish a Stradic. If I am fishing for redfish near the jetty, and could very likely hook a 50" king mackerel or 100lb+ shark, I'll take the Slammer.

What rod setup do you use with the 3500?
@kweeks100454 жыл бұрын
C. Maldo I use a 7’6” MH Calico Jack rod on my Slammer III 3500. I have three of these rods, an 8” MH on a Spinfisher V 4500 with CNC gears and a 7’6” M paired with a Penn Conflict II 3000. Great inshore rods for the money.

Why does my slammer tick when under tension?Its brand new and I used guarantee ,they sended me brand new again.And this one also has some ticking noise when i use spinnerbaits,crankbaits for pike fishing?Hate that feeling of ticking.....
@lurefishingforwrasseuk25882 жыл бұрын
Yes I hate it too, as per part 3. I returned mine under warranty, the new one did it too. A mates doesn’t “tick”!! This why I sold my slammer 3 and went back to Shimano. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rZnQZ6J7iapsqJo

I really wanted one of these for my surf rod, but I was put off from my experience with a Penn Clash I bought, and returned. The line lay out of the box was unuseable (they must have bad engineering tolerances), and even the supplied adjustment washers didn't compensate enough, so it went back. Who wants to pay £150 a reel then start stripping line and adjusting shims? Shimano are perfect out of the box. I can accept the Slammer is a different type of reel, but if manufacturers can't get tolerances tight enough that they don't have to ask customers to tune their new reels.....
@barlow29763 жыл бұрын
Well, after having to replace the bearings on my Stradic I bought a Slammer for my rough and wet marks. Lays line ok, not as good as Shimano, and you can't fill the spool as much either. I've got used to the weight, and enjoying not to have to worry about it.

Hi! I need a reel for shore jigging with a Majorcraft Solpara 1002h 60-100g. I can go with Penn Slammer III 5500 (180€), Daiwa Bg mq 8000 (160€) , Shimano saragosa (220€) or Saltist Ltd 5000 (250€). What would you choose?
@mgzw903 жыл бұрын
Saragossa without doubt!! 10/10!!

Why does everybody try to compare this real to a Shimano Stradic when it cost more. I own 10 of the Penn Slammer 3 different sizes it is a Workhorse of a real I haven't had to do any maintenance to them yet my stratic I've had to send it back to Shimano to have it repaired all three of them and I have used them under the same conditions the pins held up better fishing is on not always about the smoothness of the real. And the search for smoothness you often give up something I would rather have an M1 Abrams tank then a Jeep

kameron steel I used the FK Stradic because: I own one Shimano are very popular in the UK Their price is comparable Mine has been faultless as has everyone that I know who has one

Because everyone owns a stradic so we have something to compare it to.

Slammer is superior to the Stradic but they are quite different reels. Best inshore reel for the price is definitely the Slammer. Now the IV is out!
@lurefishingforwrasseuk25882 жыл бұрын
So this video is about the Slammer 3, not the 4. If the reel isn’t dunked, the Stradic is so much more refined (see my other videos in my Slammer 3 series). For “MY” fishing, would I buy another Slammer 3 or a Stradic? For me a Stradic EVERY single time! I’ve Stradics in 3k, 4k and 5k and none have ever missed a beat. I do own a 6500 Slammer 4HG, but due to a certain disease, I’ve yet to use it for wrecking for pollack!

Any reel with small main gear won't have sufficient torque n slammer 3 one of those.
@mgzw905 жыл бұрын
Tim Tom that depends on what it’s made of. (Eg stainless is far stronger than alloy or brass) Though a bigger gear (like in the Daiwa BG will) allow more torque
