Penn State entered the 2003 season with what seemed to be much uncertainty amidst the loss of a handful of very key contributors from the previous 2002 season. Temple came in as a physical team as the Nittany Lions were breaking in new running backs and offensive linemen. Quarterback Zack Mills was back after an impressive sophomore campaign and there was hype around senior wide receiver Tony Johnson.
On defense, there was still a good amount of talented players on this roster. And you'll see the emergence of Derek Wake and Tamba Hali getting their first taste as starters for Penn State.
This low scoring affair maybe wasn't what Nittany Lion fans exactly wanted to see against the in-state opponent, but it was a win to start the season.
This game cuts out with a couple minutes left in regulation but the final score was 23-10, Penn State.
