Fun fact about KFC, in Japan people make reservations months in advance for the Christmas rush. What I really want to know is what they do to the bones to make them so soft you can eat them. I haven't eaten fast food in a really long time. That isn't a protest. Most of it isn't food. I wrote a play about cock fighting using people with umbrellas. No one understood it. I think I won.

If you stuck a pole into a hollow rope, it would rise bottom-first, with the limp rope stiffening up as the pole was pushed into further into it. It still could be a pole with a rope around it, and the rope that he rolls up into the basket is just a decoy. They would have to retract the pole quite rapidly to make it suddenly go limp like that, but it seems most plausible. It also explains why they had to interrupt the trick: before the interruption he lifted the basket.
