Loved following your Pennine Way adventure ...as others have said, you missed some really serious weather by around a week...thick snow, blizzards, storms...great timing. Enjoy winter in Texas...and I'll be watching when you start your next series of UK challenges in April !

You only missed the snowy weather on the Pennies by about a week as it has turned a lot colder. Looking forward to your return in the spring and tell Ben there are still some ups and downs on the Cotswold way

You're an inspiration! We love to sit as a family (all four of us) and watch your content. We did the WHW this year as a family (children 13 and 15). Next year we're thinking of either East Highland way or CateranTrail or hiking from Inverness to Drumnadrochit to do Affric Kintail way.

The whole family sits down and watch my videos? Wowww, I am so flattered. Thank you guys!! I did the Affric Kintail Way earlier this year. That valley is so dramatic. It was impressive but the beginning was a bit boring from Drumnadrochit for the first 20 miles. The remote hostel was fun! :)

Got to do the Dales Way! Start at Ilkley in West Yorkshire and head up Wharfedale crossing the Pennine Way to Bowness in Cumbria. It will be a relatively easy trail for you. Thoroughly enjoyed watching you complete the Pennine Way trail. Followed you all the way but disappointed when no footage on zero days!

Quite inspired organisation and planning! I did the PW from Haltwhistle south to Edale in 1970 when it was newish.. carrying about 40lb. In fact everything seemed to weigh about 40lb in those days. And everywhere was kneedeep mud. Again, fantastic hike Christina, looking forward to your next outing.

@hikersheep I joined the military in 1968, so outdoor activity was a normal part of life. An early event was 10 tors.. a 70 mile hike around Dartmoor, 2 days and a bivvy bag night stop. We trained walking up kinder scout, the snowdon horseshoe and the lyke wake. My favourite walking is the Brecon Beacons, back for a beer at the end of the day. Walking for pleasure beats marching for distance!

Hi Christina, its great to see your gear. I am very interested in the Big Agnes sl rapide sleeping mat. Would you be able to let me know how wide it is when inflated please. Big goes website states 25" but not sure if that is inflated of deflated. Look forward to your trips next year. Thanks. Hi to Ben & Bobo. Xx😊

Thanks for the gear list.When I see the foam pad I always think of getting on a bus from say Robin Hoods Bay to Scarborough and keeping my fingers crossed that the bus is not packed so I'm having to hold the backpack with foam pad up to make room.I pack a Highlander reflective thin mat into my pack instead.Great videos this year from you.Look forward to your 2025 vids.Ben has made a wise choice with the very pleasant Cotswolds Way.

Interesting what you say about Lone Peaks. Ive never tried them my self but I think a lot of people use them, even in wet UK. I was thinking of trying Altra, either Lone Peaks or Olympus
@hikersheep

They are great shoes but they have zero drop. If you dont have flexible/strong ankles, you will struggle at first. Wearing them in normal civilized trails are fine. But if it's wet grass, muddy, boggy, you will slip a lot! They dont grip the grass very well...not enough traction. But better on rocks.

Great Choice of gear - very informative. Looking forward to seeing the 2025 videography (have you thought of selling the channel to Amazon TV ? ? ) Most people do the Cotswold Way from Chipping Campden southbound to finish in Bath but I did it going Northwards (against the flow of hikers) so I encountered many more people to chat to, which I enjoy. Lots of different nationalities, including many USA most of which were delightful. I have been doing it a second time section hiking this year & going southbound so I didn't get so many people to talk to! Happy Trails

Totally waterproof boots are a must for me. My morning routine is talc in my (dry) socks and in my boots. I did the Pennine Way and my feet remained dry for the whole 14 days. Wet boots and socks would have caused blisters. Bill

What's the difference between hiking gear you use in the UK than in the US.
@hikersheep
@hikersheep 2 ай бұрын
Umbrella iis pretty much useless in the UK cause youre more exposed to the wind. Umbrella is more suited for forest hike in the US. I havent used any gear made in UK for example the Hilleberg tent that look like tubes...i wonder if theyre better in the wind. But i think theyre heavier...therefore stronger maybe
@hikersheep

Shoes. No hiking trails in the US are boggy i dont think. Not much slippery grass either. Mostly rocks and dirt. Altra Lone Peak are suitable in US.

Hi Christina, glad you enjoyed the Pennine Way enough to do it again next year. What was the base weight of your pack?
@hikersheep
@hikersheep 2 ай бұрын
I have no idea? 🤯 I never weigh or pay attention to my pack weight. I dont own a scale either. But when I was leaving to the UK, they weighed it at the airport. All the gear with 3 days of food, it was 26 lbs without water or gas can.
